Make your Mark
Every stay at a WorldMark or Trendwest
resort provides you with the opportunity
to make your Club better. Each time you
fill out a Guest Comment Card, you give
us valuable input on how a resort has, or
hasn’t, met your expectations. Comment
cards are used to evaluate our performance
from the perspective of those who matter
most – our owners. As much as we like
to see the highest rating of 5 on each card,
we appreciate the value of lower scores, if
you feel we deserve them; they help us to
pinpoint areas that require more attention.

Keep Moving for Health
Trendwest South Pacific was one of the proud sponsors who supported the Fijian Rotary
Walkathon on March 18. Promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, the Rotary Club’s first
Community Fun Run/Walk attracted over 800 participants, including some very enthusiastic
owners on holiday at WorldMark Denarau Island. In the presence of the Fijian Vice President,
Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi, the event raised much needed funds for the local school community. As
well as donating towards the event Trendwest also pledged a further F$100 for every lead turned
into a tour, from that day.
WorldMark Denarau Island has a long history of providing support and education to the local
community. Focusing on village initiatives, the resort donates food and gifts for official village
functions and has provided computer hardware to the village church and chief. The resort is
also committed to assisting local schools, and has donated much needed airconditioning and
building supplies. WorldMark Denarau Island has also developed a scholarship programme
which allows selected local children, and WorldMark Denarau Island staff, to pursue a tertiary
education. This positive presence has earned WorldMark Denarau Island employer-of-choice
status on the island and the respect of the Fijian Great Council of Chiefs.
T
he Treasures of Spain, Morocco
and Portugal is an exciting 16 day
Club Tour into the heart of the
Mediterranean. Providing a treasure chest of
highlights and unforgettable scenery, this tour
will leave you mesmerised. Sit back, relax and
be guided though a moveable feast of sights
and sounds. Exciting cities, medieval castles
and fortresses are just some of the treats in
store.
Spain is one of the most diverse and visually
stunning nations in Europe. Spain has long
been a meeting point (and battleground) for
a myriad of civilisations and, as a result, the
country brims with remnants of a glorious
and chaotic past. Travellers are presented
with a silver-service experience of culture and
charm iconic to the region. Discover the
extraordinary Moorish architecture of the
Alhambra Palace in Granada, marvel at the
jewels on display at the world-renowned El
Prado Museum and sample wines produced
from the sun-kissed vineyards that grace
Valdepeñas.
A short boat trip across the Straits of
Gibraltar and you’re in Morocco, a land full
of tantalising vistas and aromas. Tangier,
Casablanca, Marrakesh - just the names of
these cities stir the imagination. Morocco is
a land so intrinsically beautiful and rich with
heritage that the moment you step foot on it
you feel completely transported to another
time. This allure has captured the hearts
and dreams of adventurers and travellers for
centuries. Morocco has been thoroughly
mythologised and for good reason. It is
a country where the spices and bazaar of
the East come together with the West, in
a collision of colour and vibrancy. And it’s
the perfect place to haggle for carpets in the
Casbah.
spainsensations
spanish sensations
From the magic of Morocco the tour moves
to Portugal where you can uncover the
many attractions and excitement of Lisbon.
Scattered with beauty, diversity and customs,
this is a city overflowing with surprises. From
castles to monasteries, the monuments of the
Lisbon region trace the history of Portuguese
architecture and art back thousands of years.
This luminous city boasts an eclectic blend
of cosmopolitan lifestyle with tradition, in
an exciting concoction with something for
everyone.
The Treasures of Spain, Morocco and Portugal
Club Tour offers an exotic holiday experience
filled with fascinating cultural experiences,
friendly people and delicious food.

Get away, have fun

holiday out of the

port macquarie
F
or affordable and fun holiday ideas,
you can’t go past Port Macquarie.
It must be one of the best holiday
destinations on the NSW coast. Less than
4 hours drive north of Sydney and 8 hours
south of Brisbane, it is the ideal getaway for
families, couples or singles. It has everything:
a history which dates back to convict
times, superb nature reserves, a chance to
see and swim with dolphins, interesting
historical buildings, miles of golden beaches
with excellent fishing and safe swimming,
a museum, walking tracks and lots of
amusements for the kids. It even has a Koala
Hospital.
To help you discover this idyllic region
WorldMark South Pacific gives owners a
variety of accommodation choices. You
choose: WorldMark Port Macquarie located
conveniently on the Hastings River foreshore,
right in the heart of the CBD, or WorldMark
Flynns Beach situated just a short stroll from
the pristine sands of Port Macquarie’s famous
beach and home to one of Australia’s cutest
marsupials, the Koala.
Port Macquarie is perfect for a family
adventure. Surrounded by coastal rainforests,
unspoilt beaches, crystal clear waterways,
endless tourist attractions and some of the
best shopping and entertainment on the
mid-north coast, it is a haven catering to the
whole family.
Nature lovers will feel at home amidst this sub
-tropical sanctuary. Stroll along the pathways
that meander through gardens and palm
groves following the natural watercourses and
wildlife corridors. The much-loved Koala
Hospital is within walking distance from
both resorts and gives the whole family a rare
insight into the habits of one of the world’s
cuddliest creatures. Take part in the Feed,
Walk and Talk tour to witness koalas roaming
free while listening to an informative talk on
their history and lifestyle. Or perhaps cruise
along the waterways on a cruise boat tour and
watch the landscape drift-by. This relaxing
tour drifts through dairy farms, vineyards,
rainforests and serene beaches presenting
the ideal opportunity for dolphin and bird
spotting. You never know who or what you
might see along the way.
Why not try your hand at horse riding
through the beautiful Bellrowan Valley?
Alternatively you can try go-karting, fourwheel-drive tours or some deep sea fishing.
Make sure you don’t miss the Fighter Flight
Centre, which offers Australia’s only fighter jet
flights for civilians.
An added bonus during school holidays at
Port Macquarie is WorldMark Flynns Beach
Cool Kids programme. Cool Kids is aimed
at providing children between the ages of
5-13 with fun and healthy activities while
on school holidays. At Flynns Beach the
programme is all about having fun. The two-
WorldMark Rotorua
hour sessions are designed to build confidence,
creativity and holiday friendship. Supervised
by qualified professionals, the programme
provides the ideal environment for focusing
holiday energy. While the kids are busy with
the in-house activities, why not steal a quiet
moment to peruse the various art galleries and
craft studios, vineyards, coffee shops, antique
dealers and furniture makers to purchase a
memento of your visit to Port Macquarie?
Outside the tranquillity of Port Macquarie
a diverse hinterland and coastal landscape
is yours to discover. Gather up the kids and
have a picnic on the beach or take a day trip
to explore the surrounding seaside villages,
hideaways and tourist attractions.

July holiday itinerary, contact WorldMark

Marvel at the
contrast of the white
mountainous terrain
against the blue
transparent depth of
clear winter skies
into Canada
Immerse yourself in the crystal-clarity that
comes with the fresh winter weather of the
British Columbia Ski Fields, Canada.
Step out onto a crisp white platform of
snow and marvel at the contrast of the
white mountainous terrain against the blue
transparent depth of clear winter skies.
Welcome to the wintry calm of British
Columbia where the resorts invite you to
play in one of the world’s greatest winter
wonderlands.
Nestled amongst the magnificent Coast
Mountains, Whistler’s natural setting is
beautiful in both summer and winter. In
winter you can ski down a glacier and in
summer hike the majestic wilderness.
Architecturally designed to get the most of
the amazing vistas, Whistler’s cobblestone
streets are pedestrian-only and are lined with
93 restaurants, lounges and bars so it’s easy
just to slide on in to a café for a latte or crisp
micro brew.
Early mornings at Whistler reveal a white
mountain canvas untouched by the buzz
and flurry of ski swings, where the gradual
approach of skiers on the mountain face
colour the mountain with their bright
apparel and add an endless energy to the early
morning still.
Visitors to the region come from far and wide
and in all ages to experience a healthy outdoor
lifestyle. Amongst the wholesome flurry of
traditional skiers and the youthful exuberance
10
of the young funky snow-boarders and snow
bunnies, you have an entire mountain face
to discover. Whether it’s King Blackcomb or
Whistler there is never a shortage of things to
do or terrain to cover with both mountains
covering over 8000 acres. Together the
mountains have over 200 runs, 33 lifts and
the greatest vertical drop on the continent - a
skier’s paradise!
Dog sledding is also an interesting way to
explore the rugged terrain - for some more
motorised action you can hire out snow
mobiles and take a team mobile trekking with
you.
The famous Apres Restaurant and Wine Bar
nightlife is relaxing after a long day on the
slopes with a cocktail or three an easy option
in Whistler and Blackcomb. Meandering
across the cobbled streets to other venues is
also a great way to experience and get to know
the area. Popular venues include: Black’s Pub,
Dubh Linn Gate, Dusty’s Bar and Merlin’s
and Monk’s.

Chill Out in
Mile-High
Style!
Chill out in style with WorldMark. Whether
it be the rugged extremes or the soothing
quiet – these resorts provide you with homestyle comfort in the midst of it all.
Linking Whistler to Vancouver
E
xperience the Rockies’ best travel experience – the Mountaineer Train. The train
journeys through British Columbia’s rugged terrain from sea to sky and travels
between North Vancouver and Whistler. Operating in both northbound and
southbound directions, it’s a great way to see the sights and learn about the region’s harsh
extremes.
Arriving in Vancouver from the Mountaineer train you would have already seen some of the
greatest national parkland on offer. The beautiful Stanley Park borders both mountain and
sea, with old-growth forest of Red Cedar and Oak, deep-winding valleys and snow-capped
peaks all in its midst. With the calm waters of the picturesque lakes as a backdrop, you can
discover the amazing parkland, seascape and rugged mountain region. The rusty colours of
autumn in the woodland is an awesome sight to behold. Getaway for the day and marvel
at scenic backdrops come to life – where it is said that “even the ample rain doesn’t dampen
the good times”!
While Vancouver is a city with a mass of outdoor fun, it is also a city that loves to entertain
you. Sports and live music feature heavily, followed by theatre and a healthy dose of comedy
thrown in for good measure!
WorldMark Cascade Lodge
WorldMark Cascade Lodge puts you in the heart
of it all with amazing resort facilities to come
home to after a hard day on the slopes. With
an indoor fireplace and fully equipped kitchen
you have everything you need. The resort also
features an outside pool and two heated spas.
Night spots to visit include Gastown, Yaleton and Granville. Like most major cities
Vancouver has a wide variety of cuisine to choose from but its range and price of seafood
is simply amazing. Sablefish, crab and scallops are a staple to the region which means the
best part of dining out is the great value for money that you receive with the majority of
restaurants.

italy
ciao
Italy!
The feelings of nostalgia are
forced upon you as if left behind
from other passers by, equally as
overwhelmed by the statuesque
gardens, artistic imagery and
skeletal relics to behold.
I
n this country of sheer architecture
and art born from genius there is little
you will find uninteresting. Where the
shop displays compete for attention and
magnificence against the architecture – Rome
represents an overexposed world of grandeur
and contrast.
The world continues to learn from Italian
style but seeing the iconic representations of
gods and demons, the palatial buildings and
sheer unworldly architecture, this mismatched
city of contradictory features opens your
eyes to a history rich with indulgence, and
therein lies its style. The feelings of nostalgia
are forced upon you as if left behind from
other passers by, equally as overwhelmed by
the statuesque gardens, artistic imagery and
skeletal relics to behold.
14
Wandering down the narrow streets from
the Termini Station towards the pedestrian
walkways lined with shops and wine bars,
be mindful of the traffic. The first thing to
be aware of in this crazy maze of ancient
and new streets is that crossing the road is
a near impossible task. This is a city where
congratulatory tickets should be given to
motorists who abide by and are respectful of
traffic rules!
However, given the labyrinth-like side streets
and back alleys the main centre of Rome is
surprisingly easy to navigate through. Bear
in mind a few things: the River Tiber divides
Rome from North to South and most of the
historical sites are in the East.
italy
Restoration of the Eternal City has recently
been completed allowing the capital to be
seen in all its glory, with mood-lighting and
re-laid paving and fixtures bringing back the
grandiose imagery of the city’s facade.
For those visiting ancient Rome’s ruins, the
Forum and Colosseum are both nestled
between the Capitoline and Palatine hills.
The Forum, once the political and economic
centre of Rome, has little left with just a
few pieces of marble, columns and a rough
floor plan. However, the remnants are still
so awe-inspiring that it isn’t hard to imagine
the building during Caesar’s rule. The Piazza
del Campidoglio is only a short distance
away (originally designed by Michelangelo
it took more than a century to complete).
The world’s oldest public museums are also
a fascinating distraction. The Palazzo Nuovo
and Palazzo Dei Conservatori together make
up the Capitoline Museums and house some
of the finest collections of Renaissance art and
sculpture to be seen.
Of course there is no shortage of churches
in Italy and Rome. The Church of the Santa
Maria in Aracoeli is right on the brow of the
hill and of course there’s Vatican City. The
views of the Vatican gardens are amazing
along with Bernini’s piazza and the city below.
The under chapels contain Michelangelo’s
Pieta and the tombs of recent popes. The
Basilica at the end of the route is the one
containing Michelangelo’s frescoes, the Last
Judgement and the renaissance works by
Botticelli, Rosselli and Signorelli.
Moving on from Rome there is plenty to see
in this vast country of Italy. Take a scenic
drive along the Amalfi coast or try a nice
Chianti in the Chianti wine region. Travel
to Capri and see the geological marvel of
the Blue Grotto or Juliet’s balcony at fair
Verona, or lose yourself in the amazing canals
of ultra-romantic Venice. There are always
numerous outdoor festivals, concerts and
markets being held too – just find out at your
local information stand what’s on. For a sly
tip at sightseeing: most desert the city for
the beaches and mountains in summer time
which makes it an ideal time to explore.
For the young travellers Testaccio is a great
summertime getaway. Festivals are rife and
the collection of cool participants make it the
scene to be part of.

The remnants
are still so aweinspiring...

How often have you heard someone say how tired and worn-out they feel after
their holiday? If this is you, then I suggest you holiday at WorldMark Denarau
Island in Fiji.
WorldMark in Fiji is your ultimate all-in-one holiday experience. If you are
after just pure relaxation, as I was, simply stay put at the resort. Lull away
the afternoon under one of the huts by the beach with front row seats to the
sunset. Cool down at any time, jump into the pool, which is the largest in the
area. When tired, have a break and swim to the pool bar where the bartender
is ready to make your favorite drink. You can also order at the restaurant just
next to the pool and your food gets delivered to your chosen relaxation spot.
Now if that is too much then go have a massage. For all your beauty needs, including
traditional hair braids, visit the hair and beauty centre as my friend did.
Now, not all of us are into quiet afternoons. If you are after action and adventure as my kids are, then all you ever need is also at
the resort. Kayaking is available all day and so is sailing in a hobbycat. Snorkelling, parasailing or any other water sports, are right
here at the resort.
The other fantastic thing is that if you are after the authentic Fijian experience, then the resort offers that also. Every week they
have the traditional lovo feast which we went to. This was accompanied by a display of various Polynesian dances including a fire
dance. My husband almost got burned for being too close to the dancers! Throughout the week, we went to the various cultural
activities at the resort such as kava tasting, lovo demonstration, language lessons and basket weaving. Everyday before sunset we
got the traditional serenade by the pool bar. And as the sun begins to set, the Fijian drums start to sound and the torches are lit to
signal the end of another blissful day.
So if you’ve always wanted that complete holiday experience without having to step out of the resort, then go to WorldMark
Denarau, mate!
