From the Priest
When we last left our clumsy priest, she was
struggling to get a large red wine stain out of
her yellow cotton sweater. Victory – a soaking
with the proper chemicals worked! This
month we find her once again quoting
Shakespeare’s Macbeth (“Out, out, d___
spot!”), this time wrestling with some black
ink stains left by her favorite pen on – you
guessed it! – that same yellow sweater.
Life is messy. Entropy happens. Every so often
we have to straighten out the crooked path,
fill in the holes, smooth down the bumps,
rearrange the pieces, wash the windows,
regroup. Winter is the time I get the strongest
urge to do that – after the holidays have
blown through, the skies hang limp and gray,
and there’s no escaping the truth that my
nests need rearranging and remodeling.
I need your help in tidying up.
Books – I love them, collect them, use them
often, and lend them gladly. Lately, I am
missing quite a few favorites that I have lent
out in the past several years. Please look
around your house, your car and return them
to me? Someone else may benefit from that
book you are not reading. No apologies
needed, just check to see what you’ve
forgotten you have. Meanwhile, I’ll start
alphabetizing the ones I’ve piled up randomly
on my shelves.
Lay ministers – I love them, collect them, use
them often. Over time, some folks have
moved or died or retired. Over time, we
bump into new situations, and we welcome
new volunteers (thank you, God!). It’s time to
regroup and retrain a bit to make our work
clearer and easier. I’m even working with
some folks on writing instructions and taking
pictures so we’ll have a clear guide to our

responsibilities. Please let Amanda know
whether you can meet with me on these
dates:
Altar Guild: January 31, 10:00 a.m.; I know
days are not good for some, especially
Drew and Keytha, sometimes Dianna. What
would be an alternative training date or
time that would work for you? We’ll offer
that for an alternative training date, open
to all. Kelly Johnson and I will be
presenting a new altar guild manual—
probably not totally complete, but a good
start, including photos of setups, etc.
Bread Bakers: March 7, 10:00 a.m. We
have a tried-and-true recipe and excellent
instructions to give you. We’ll be giving out
“bread-cutters” as well, to make shaping,
sizing, and uniformity easier, which helps
us know how much bread we’ll need for
various services.
Acolytes: February 21, 10:00 a.m. We need
to clarify, regularize, and expand some
tasks for acolytes during the Eucharist.
Lectors: March 21, 10:00 a.m. We will
review details using our voices more
flexibly and articulately to increase the

Notes to Prayers & Squares and the Church of the Resurrection
Thanks for the cookies that you sent to us. They are always very good!
Merry Christmas,
Terry & Sharon Arden
Dear Friends,
We would like to thank everyone that worked hard to make our wedding so very special.
Mother Claire, Ruben, Jerry Ploeger and Donna Tisdale for the lovely service. Kathleen Bailey
for the impeccable reception and delicious food from all who contributed. Rosemary and Gregg
Kitts for the beautiful flowers and hard work and long hours.
Thank you, also, to the Prayers & Squares group. You went out of your way to make such a
gorgeous quilt – thanks to all who participated and tied knots with prayers. We will treasure it
always.
Everyone worked so hard and we feel truly blessed to call the Church of the Resurrection our
home.
Much love to all,
Julie & Milton
“NEW” PARISH HALL FLOORS
The wood floors in the parish hall are getting a
much-needed makeover! We’ll have a crew
coming in February to refinish them and
restore their natural beauty.
Beginning February 23 and going through
March 13, use of the parish hall and kitchen
will be impossible so we’ll relocate our coffee
hours and adult forums to the undercroft.
Groups and classes will need to make plans to
relocate, as well.
We’ll also be looking for volunteers to help
pack up and move items and furnishings to
storage in preparation, to help put new
protective pads on all the chairs and tables,
and to help unload and set up after the floor
has cured. If you’ll be available, keep an eye
out for more info to come!

listeners’ understanding.
All Ushers plus Readers for the Easter Vigil: April 4, 11:00 a.m., after Holy Saturday
service. Readers will practice readings for the vigil, while ushers practice raising and
lowering the lights, as we do during the vigil. Then ushers will stay for some additional
training appropriate for all ushers at any service.
Invite a friend who might be interested in learning about this ministry, too. Share the fun! Hope
to see you all soon.
Blessings,
Claire 
Our next book club meeting will be at the home of
Jane Mocilac on Friday, January 23rd. We will discuss
“Two Old Women” by Velma Wallis.
To RSVP, or for more information, please contact
Jane Mocilac at [email protected].

Notes From the Vestry
November 19, 2014
Guest: Paul Stephens, Church Insurance Agency
Paul did an audit of the property and will make adjustments to our policy as needed.
After discussion of changes to assets and of terms of our policy, Bob Haldi moved to increase the church’s
deductible from $500 to $1000. Judy Hadjian seconded and the motion was approved.
At the suggestion of Mr. Stephens, Bob Haldi asked the Jr. Wardens to look at the cost of re-mulching the
playground area with playground-friendly material.
Finance & Mid-year Budget Report: Mark Montgomery
Income is pretty much spot on estimate. Expenses are lower than anticipated. It’s estimated that we’ll go about
$5,000 over the budgeted income of $12,000. Most of the expenses have come in, except for normal operating
expenses and one or two large, anticipated expenses.
Judy Hadjian moved to accept the financial report as presented. Bob Haldi seconded and the motion was approved.
Minutes: Amanda Pearce and Claire Keene
On page two of the October minutes, in the section about newcomer activities, the phrase before the end of the
year needs to be changed to after the end of the year.
Bob Haldi moved to approve minutes as corrected. Donna Tisdale seconded and the motion was approved.
Stewardship Report: Mark Montgomery
Three-fourths of what is needed to match last year’s pledge budget has come in, so we’re not doing too badly on
pledging.
Amanda will put a blurb in the CrossRoads, asking for pledges to be turned in as soon as possible.
Mark and Debbie Montgomery, Claire, and Amanda will meet the Monday after Thanksgiving to review before
contacting people who usually pledge, but haven’t sent a card in.
Buildings and Grounds: Chip Parker, Sarah Reynolds, Claire Keene
• Sinks in church have been repaired – the AA people have evidently been putting coffee grounds in the
kitchen sink. Amanda is to call Mr. Murley, who is in charge of the meetings, to tell him about the coffee
grounds, and the cleaning supplies that have been left for their use.
• Electrical/HVAC – there is no heat coming from one of the units. Mr. Moats will come to evaluate and fix
• Rotten window frames on church window – Ginny Tolbert removed a log of the rotten wood. Repairs can’t
be done now because of the cold and wet, but in the Spring, windows will get fixed.
• Undercroft dehumidifier – keeps getting turned off. Wayne Tolbert will look at the possibility of installing a
drain hose so it won’t automatically shut off because well gets full.
• Andrew is looking at installing programmable thermostats in the church.
Resurrection Shirts: Bob Haldi
Bob brought sample shirts for members to see. The one-time art charge is $66, and there would be about a month
turnaround time. By request, Bob will check the possibility of USA made shirts.
Advent: Claire Keene
Wednesday, December 10th is the rehearsal for Julie Hebble’s wedding, so Claire it was decided to do something a
bit different for Advent this year. On the first Wednesday of Advent (Dec. 3rd), we’ll gather for a simple soup supper
and make mini Advent wreath kits. Then, on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of Advent, we will take our hot soup
supper to community parking lots and give it away, with the mini Advent wreath kits and prayer booklets.

REMINDERS FOR THE NEW YEAR
Some quick, little things to keep in mind as we begin a new year together at Resurrection:
If you’re not receiving emails from us, you can subscribe to the emails you’d
like to receive: just go to http://eepurl.com/NwPJD to subscribe. And if you
move or change your phone number or email address, please let the office
know, so we can be sure to have correct contact info for you!
We’re here to support you for all your life events. Please remember that one
of the first steps to having your baptism, wedding, or funeral at the church is
to talk with the rector to be sure requirements are met and customaries are
followed.
The church and its members participate in many opportunities for ministry,
volunteering, giving, service, and fellowship. Grab a copy of our Activities
and Ministries Handbook, and see where you might like to spend some time
and lend a hand.
Before scheduling your group’s meeting, your organization’s party, or your
family’s birthday, anniversary or graduation celebration, please be sure to
check with the church office to make sure the date you’ve chosen is
available. Many people, groups, and organizations use our spaces – help us
avoid conflicts and misunderstandings by checking before you schedule!
We have several outlets for your news – the monthly newsletter, the weekly
email announcements, and the Sunday bulletin, to name a few. The office is
happy to include your items – just allow plenty of time and give us a call or
send us an email ([email protected]).
RESURRECTION HOUSE BUILD BEGINS
The Resurrection team begins building
this year’s Habitat House on January 13th
(weather permitting) and work will go
through the end of April.
Take a moment and check the sign up sheets in the
parish hall – there are many open spots for tasks
later in the process. Don’t let the efforts of Ribfest
go to waste!

New Member Incorporation: Bob Haldi
Bob has lost his help with newcomers to moves, but will get something going on his own.
Gifts Committee: - Claire Keene
Claire found a 2002 reactivation of the gifts committee. Bob Haldi was to look at it, but he’s been sick – he’ll bring
it in and it will be sent to all members.
PR Planning Group: Claire Keene
Claire wants to have the group in place at the beginning of 2015 so members need to consider whether they are
interested.
Adult Education: Claire Keene
Claire will talk to Nelda and figure out an Adult Education plan.
Memorial Garden: Claire Keene
Jane Mocilac will be visiting the finance committee first, and then will come address the vestry.
Proceeds from the Men’s Ministry smoked turkeys and chickens will go to the Memorial Garden.
We will be developing promotional materials for the garden.
Diocesan Convention: Claire Keene
Jerry Crook, Bob Haldi and Donna Tisdale were nominated as delegates.
Andrew Wilkinson, Kelly Johnson and Sarah Reynolds were nominated as alternates.
Chip Parker moved that the nominees be accepted. Wayne Tolbert seconded and the motion was approved.
Vestry Nominees: Judy Hadjian
The committee has called numerous people, most of whom have declined. So far, Jerry Crook and Kelly Johnson
have accepted the nomination to stand for election to the 2015 vestry. Judy will talk to a few more people. When
she finds a third person, members will vote via email to accept the nominees before the Annual Parish Meeting, Dec.
7th.
Voluntary Giving to Diocese: Claire Keene
Mark will talk to the finance committee and bring vestry a recommendation at the December meeting.
