KNOXVILLE SYMPHONY LEAGUE NEWSLETTER
Words from the President...
T
he Aram Era has begun! Maestro Aram
Demirjian secured creative command of
the baton with his debut performance at the
fabulous fourth of July concert in our World’s
Fair Park. The Moxley Carmichael Masterworks Series begins September 15&16 at
the Tennessee Theatre with Russian Passion:
Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. Individual
and season tickets are a mere phone call and
credit card number away as are tickets for the
Pops Series at the Civic Auditorium and the Chamber Series at the Bijou Theater. 865-291-3310 or www.knoxvillesymphony.com. Maestro
Demirjian will be the special guest at the September 21st Celebration
Luncheon. Look for your invitation coming soon. Aram, a most personable and enthusiastic visionary will meet, greet and speak briefly of
his forward thinking leadership of the KSO and its role in the artistic
and surrounding community.
Lest you think your KSL Board has spent the summer relaxing at
the beach or other exotic destinations - not a chance! The Executive
Committee, the Ball Committee, the Elegant Dining Committee and
the KSL 2017 Designer ShowHouse Committee have been diligently
organizing and pursuing their goals with sandals on the ground, cell
phones in hand and smiles on their faces. Ball Co-Chairmen Charleene
Edwards, Julia Shiflett and Susan White and their committee are
enthusiastically planning the RHAPSODY IN BLUE Ball at
Cherokee Country Club December third with exciting new twists,
entertainment and unusual live and silent auction items procured.
Look for your Elegant Dining catalog to arrive in early October
announcing events starting in October as organized by Barbara Furlong
and Elizabeth Offringa. KSL 2017 Designer ShowHouse Chairman
Elizabeth Grant and her team are scouting a most fantastic over-thetop house and are planning new and different methods and events.
Hear all about it at the September Celebration Luncheon.
The dedication and commitment shown by the Executive Committee and all the Chairmen of our major fundraising committees and
their members has me humbled in awe as I learn all those tiny behind
the scenes details that fabricate the KSL structure and performance.
Each member working in harmony will assure success of our purpose.
Always with a hug,
Come Meet the Maestro

The 2016-2017 Elegant Dining Committee has been hard at
work since early June on the new season of Elegant Dining. We
hope to equal or better our 2015-2016 season that raised more
than $49,000! We plan to mail the book by early October, but
want to pique your interest by mentioning our first two events:
Jan Crawford is hosting a “Obituary Party” at her home that
promises to be fun and light-hearted on Friday, October 14. ($50)
Audrey Duncan is hosting Bob Overholt, MD who will
impart his wisdom “How to Live to 150” on October 20th at
Cherokee Country Club. ($60)
Fran Dunn has graciously agreed to take “early” reservations
for these 2 events. Please email her with your reservation requests
at [email protected] before the website is updated!
Thanks for your continued support of Elegant Dining!

Hoping you all enjoyed summer. I know everyone is buzzing now
that we have our new music director, Aram Demirjian, and are entering
into a new chapter for the KSO. And just in time to celebrate our 30th
consecutive ShowHouse! (or is it visa versa?)
We, the search committee, have been working very hard and hitting
the pavement this summer to obtain a house. I am hoping by the time
you read this edition of “Notes” our contract will have been signed
and we’ll be well on our way making preparations for a designer walk
through! We’ve had a wonderful response from our members who wish to
be involved with our event in April of 2017 – but we still have room for
volunteers. Most chair & co chair positions are filled, with a few still in
need of exuberant volunteers for this project. I think when you hear what
we are planning you will want to get on board!
Also, I am excited to report we’ve had a KSL board approved
change of title for our event. We are now known as the “KSL Designer
ShowHouse” (note the spelling) putting a “brand” with our event that is
easily recognizable as the Knoxville Symphony League’s ShowHouse, not
to be confused with any other show case/house tour/model home. Also,
we have all been brainstorming and have many creative ideas to report.
I hope to see everyone at our first KSL Celebration Luncheon this
September 21st. I will be happy to share ideas and new exciting plans in
our 2017 KSL Designer ShowHouse. Thank you.

Many of the Knoxville Symphony League members generously make a donation to the KSL in
memory or honor of a person who has been a supporter of music and/or the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra.
This donation goes directly to the Knoxville Symphony in support of their programs. The honorees names
appear in the KSO playbook given out at every concert.
If you are interested in honoring a friend or family member in this way, you may send your donation
to Linda Royston, 1831 Pine Ridge Road, Seymour, Tennessee 37865 indicating the name of the person
honored or memorialized. When you are making a donation, please make sure you include the contact
information of the family of the memorialized or honored person so that all may be informed of the donation.
Please report any serious illnesses, surgeries, or deaths to our Corresponding Secretary, Erma Prather
([email protected] or (865) 254-5063.) This will allow us to send proper responses in a timely manner.
Changes to the Membership Book Distribution
Because of postal regulation changes and changes to the processing
of bulk mail, your membership book will be mailed to your address.
We have to also change the binding. I am working with the printer to
make the binding as flexible as possible. We currently have XXX paid
members. XXX have resigned for various reasons. This means we need
to get busy and get new members to help us with our mission. Please be
patient as we try to comply with the rules of the post office.
