Happy Easter Weekend!
Happy Easter Weekend!
To all our friends celebrating the holiday or just enjoying a long weekend, Happy Easter and please be
safe if you're traveling this weekend. If you're staying in town the shop will be open from 10 am through
6 pm Friday and Saturday in case you need a yarn fix or just want to visit with us for a little while (or all
day!) Don't forget that we're still hunting Easter Eggs in the yarn room for discounts and prizes!
Knitting for your Home! Tired of knitting scarves and shawls? Maybe it's time you knitted something
else! The book "25 Cushions to Knit" is a great source of ideas for knitting to enhance and personalize
your home.
No matter what type of pillow you are looking for, you're sure to find something you like in this book. The
book is divided into five sections and there are nice patterns in each one. Each pattern also has a
difficulty rating making it easy for you to start simply and build your ability and confidence!
You can find everything from stripes and circles to cables. For those of you who also quilt, there are
some amazing knitted patchwork patterns. If you are looking for something for a child's room, there are
several really cute ideas. If you like florals there are some beautiful options. And if you are someone
who likes classic designs, those are here too.
To top it all off, there is a handy reference section that gives very clear instructions on all of the special
techniques used in the patterns.
This book would be a great addition to your knitting library. There are only three copies in the shop so
get yours before they are all gone!
Completed Projects: Here's a great project that Glenda Tennis has been working on for quite some
time and brought by to show us recently.
The Surrounded Afghan & Lap Robe is a really beautiful project with a self-edging i-cord. This afghan is
quite warm and very cozy. The pattern is just $4 on Ravelry. Glenda used Berroco Vintage Chunky yarn
on a 10-1/2 needle but the design is very flexible and can accommodate many different yarns. Stop by
the shop and let us help you pick the perfect yarn so that you can be "Surrounded" too!
By the way, please join all of us here at Baskets of Yarn in wishing Glenda a very very Happy Birthday
tomorrow!
And here's a really cute hat that Jenny Slear finished while sitting with us last night!
Jenny made this hat for a friend that is being treated for cancer so we extend our appreciate to Jenny for
sharing, and our best hopes for her friends quick recovery.
This pattern is available for free from the Plymouth Yarn website, just search for "Royal Llama Silk Hat"
On Our Needles!
We received a new book, Paintbox Knits, last week that is just full of incredibly cute and easy knits for
the children in your life. Linda Rudisill immediately started knitting a darling little jumper for her
granddaughter Payton. I took this photo of it "on the needles" last Saturday intending to highlight the
project this week.
As I was getting ready to start on the newsletter Linda brought the completed project in and she is
allowing us to display it in the shop for a while before she gives it to Payton this spring…so for at least
the next week or two look for Linda's beautiful version when you stop by.
Take a look at past projects "on our needles" for fun and inspiration!
Classes at BoY!
Foxy Loop Cowl: Join Linda Rudisill next Tuesday at 6pm for another quick and fun knit which is
perfect for the knitter wanting to learn more about lace knitting and twisted stitches. This cowl has 3
sections each of stockinet and twisted stitches and can be knit on straight needles and seamed once
complete.
The class is $35 and includes the pattern, 1 skein of Malabrigo Sock yarn and 1 hour of instruction.
Students should bring a US4 needle in their preference of straight or circular style.
Metria Tunic! Learn to knit the Metria Tunic next Saturday with Mary Catherine Black! In this class you'll
recieve guidance on picking your size, learn tips and tricks for counting stitches in lace patterns, and try
a new cast on method! This tunic is worked in Universal Yarn's Cottom Supreme Sequins which perfect
for the coming warmer months!
This class is $110 and includes the pattern, 2 hours of instruction and 6 skeins of yarn.
