Time has left its mark on the
Bernese musician JONES. Not
worn down but rather more
sharpened and defined.
“Time“ appears more experimental,
unorthodox, perhaps braver than its
predecessors. The album is a
refreshing counterpoint to the
argument that routine may gnaw at
ideas.
An unexpected rhythm procrastination here, an abrupt
turnaround harmony there: JONES' latest album lives from
contrast, from diversity. Anything from velvet ballads to
lively playful up-tempo numbers can be found on this album.
Nevertheless his handwriting can be recognised, as the songs
have always come from the same source, are all recorded and
arranged by the musician himself.
In addition the artist sings the choruses and falsetto all on
his own which gives the music a distinct sonority.
While Jones may well be self-employed, musically he sometimes
longs for companionship. He finds this with artists such as
the Soul Queen Sharlotte Gibson (Whithney Houston, Stevie
Wonder), or the Swiss-German rapper Steff la Cheffe - duets
that add to the album’s complexity.
