Among the highest honors bestowed by the Society of
Biomaterials, the Clemson Award for Contributions
to Literature recognizes an individual for significant
contributions to the science or technology of biomaterials.
Dr. Cato Laurencin received this honor for his lifetime
contributions to the field, which include extensive
publications in technical journals, significant critical
analyses and frequent citations. His research areas include
biomaterials, tissue engineering and controlled drug delivery.
Dr. Laurencin is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the
National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American
Surgical Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons and the American Institute for Medical and
Biological Engineering as well as the International Union of
Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering.
