A Family Perspective………….by Bud Ozar
The healing of the woman and the child in today’s
gospel is a reminder we are all wounded. We
retreat to those we love looking for acceptance,
listening, understanding and support. Families must
be healing communities where Jesus is present in
our care for one another.
Special Collection
(These collections are mandated by the Diocese for
specific purposes. These moneys are remitted in

Parenting Pointers……..….….by Susan Vogt
Parents are rightly concerned about their children’s
health and safety but we cannot protect our children
from all danger. What worries you about the future of
your child? Take normal precautions of course, but
sometimes a child has to fail, get hurt, or make a
mistake to grow. Be available. Pray.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Pastor’s Corner……..Fr. Lou Vallone
Last week, as I was passing out the Fathers' Day
pens to the dads present, giving each one a manly
handshake or virile hug (and, yeah, a couple snuck
a kiss or two in, but very macho ones) I wished
them a Happy Fathers' Day and most often
received in reply "Happy Fathers' Day to you, too,
Father!" (When I do that on Mothers' Day, I
occasionally get a well meaning soul who says
"Happy Mothers' Day to you!" I don't take offense,
because I have been called that as well in my life.)
One parishioner sent me a text: "Father of all husband of none" and a certain Parochial Vicar
who shall remain nameless texted: "We are unwed
Fathers, otherwise known as canon - as in canon
law - fodder." I'll forgive him. A while back, I
received an anonymous note - which I usually
throw away without reading - but the following
sentence caught my eye: "(You) don't make
chitchat or say hello to adults much, but I have
noticed your love and tolerance for babies and
children. I guess that it is a clear reflection of Christ
telling us we all had to become like children to
enter the kingdom of heaven." My favorite scripture
passage is where Jesus hollers at the disciples
angrily when they were trying to keep the kids from
getting to Him. Instead, He gathers the kids in His
embrace while dissing the adults.
June 28, 2015
masses. They are precious members of our
community and a reminder that our parish is
growing. To parents, may we suggest:
1. Relax! God put the wiggle in children. Don't feel
you have to suppress it in God's House.
2. Sit towards the front where it is easier for the
little ones to see and hear.
3. Quietly explain the parts of the mass to them.
4. Sing hymns, pray and voice responses. Children
learn by copying you.
5. If you feel you need to leave temporarily to calm
your child, do so and come back.
And may I add my own addenda:
6. If you do leave, make sure it ain't during the
collection!
7. When you sit up front, tell the kids to imitate the
gestures of the priest. It will keep them
occupied and interested and I love seeing it
from the altar. And we may get a vocation
from it!
It is obvious that in this pastor's church, in our
church at St. Catherine, in any of God's houses
and most of all in the kingdom of God: kids rule!
Yes, I am partial to the kids, wanting them to have
a good experience of Church while young, since it
is their Father's house where they should feel at
ease and at home. Theirs is the voice of the
angels. They never give me nearly the grief the
adults do. They are what give me joy and keep me
in the priesthood. I want them all to grow in the
Church and hang around. I hope my attitude
towards them will let them know they belong - and
we won't have to worry about "nones" in future
generations.
I must not be the only pastor who feels this way.
Another parishioner on vacation brought me a
bulletin back from a parish in Wyoming. The
following notice is in every copy:
Celebrating Children...
Jesus said: "Let the little children come to me." We
welcome the presence of children at all our
“You preserved me from among those going down into the pit.”
