Fr. Tom’s Message: I am writing
this on Friday, February 17, 2012.
This coming Tuesday is, “Fat Tuesday” or, in French, “Mardi Gras”.
This is a day celebrated in places
with a French Background, like New Orleans, and
Mobile (which by the way has the oldest Mardi
Gras in the U S of A). Mardi Gras is a day of feasting and revelry the day before a day of fasting and
getting serious about more serious things. This day
after Mardi Gras is known as Ash Wednesday, for
the ashes. A sign of penance. An old form of penance was to sit in front of the Church with ashes (a
sign of our mortality) on ones head.
Masses, with ashes, will be celebrated at 7:00
a.m., 12 Noon, and 6:00 p.m. There will also be
Mass at St. Pat’s School at 8:30 a.m. and at Mother
Mary School at 10:00 a.m. and at Mother Mary
Church at 7:00 p.m.
There will be lunch at 12:45 p.m. and dinner at
6:45 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, as well. See you
then.
MARANATHA 5K: Have you ever wanted to challenge
yourself to be in a 5K? How about walk a mile? Everyone
is invited to come out for the Maranatha 5K Race and Fun
Run! The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Student Center at
South Alabama has organized a 5K Run called the Maranatha 5K to raise awareness for priestly vocations and to raise
money to assist with the cost of educating the 21 seminari- P.S. There will be Mass at 7:00 a.m. 12:00 Noon,
