WAVELENGTH – TEACHER’S NOTES
SYNOPSIS
“Wavelength” tells the story of Lisa, Sammy and Nick. The play begins as Lisa and Sammy are going to
see their favourite band, “The Tunes”, in concert. Lisa is late, as usual! They both love music and want to
be singers. Lisa is very excited because she is going to audition for a famous band called “Wavelength”.
Sammy would love to be in the band too but she is nervous about auditioning. Nick, the manager of the
band, encourages her to audition, but Lisa gets jealous and afraid her friend might be chosen instead of
her.
While Sammy is getting ready for the audition, Lisa starts putting peer pressure on Sammy, telling her what
to wear, telling her that she should smoke and have a piercing. Sammy doesn’t know what to do,
whether to follow her friend’s advice or her own instincts. She ends up doing everything Lisa says with
disastrous consequences.

No! That is so gothic. Should I wear this dress?
Oh NO! Wrong wrong wrong. You shouldn't wear that! That's bad.
And that's worse! And that- is terrible!
Really?
Awful. A fashion disaster.
Ok ok. So what should I wear?
Well, the look is definitely dark, grungy, Emo, you know, black, and
you must wear lots of dark make-up
Ok, so, er, something like this?
Perfect. Those trousers are good, and that T-shirt is even better. Yup- that's
definitely the best outfit. And you should wear these shoes and this hat.

Lyrics for Wavelength – TRACK 26
TRACK 26 – Wavelength– “Hey there Delilah” by
Plain White T’s
Hey there Delilah
What's it like in New York City?
I'm a thousand miles away
But girl, tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do
Times Square can't Shine as bright as you
I swear it’s true
Hey there Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice, it's my disguise
I'm by your side
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me
Hey there Delilah
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me, girl
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good
We'll have the life we knew we would
My word is good
Hey there Delilah
I've got so much left to say
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I'd write it all
Even more in love with me you'd fall
We'd have it all
Oh it's what you do to me (x4)
A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
and we'll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame
Hey there Delilah
You be good and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school
And I'll be making history like I do
You'll know it's all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there Delilah here's to you
This one's for you
Oh it's what you do to me (x4)

In case you want to go further into the topic, there are some questions that should lead to a deeper reflection
about this theme.
After discussing, you can show your students this graffic and tell them to create their own (in pairs or small
groups) and then display them in the classroom.

WORKSHEET 6
PEER PRESSURE AND BULLYING
Peer pressure: the strong influence of a group, especially of children, on members of that group
to behave as everyone else does.
Bullying: hurting or frightening someone who is smaller, seen as different or less powerful, often
forcing them to do something that they do not want to do.
Peer pressure is a form of bullying, it is done in a much subtler way, sometimes unconsciously. Telling someone what to
wear, what to think, how to act in order to be accepted by their peers, are some examples.
Questions for further discussion
1.
What does “bullying” mean to you?
2.
How are students at your school bullied?
3.
Do you know of kids at your school who are left out?
4.
Do kids ever call others mean names, or tease them? Has this ever happened to you?
5.
Talk more about how you feel and what you do when this happens.
6.
Do you believe there are kids who are scared to go to school because they were afraid of
being bullied?
7.
Have you ever been scared to go to school because you were afraid of being bullied?
