Texas Chapter of the Association of the US

of May 19 & 22, 1863 at
the Stockade
Redan.
WALK WHERE THEY FOUGHT - AND LEARN LEADERSHIP
GEN. Ulysses S. Grant, Commander of the Union Army of the Tennessee. The Siege of Vicksburg (May 18 – July 4, 1863) was the final major military acEon in the Vicksburg Campaign of the American Civil War. In a series of maneuvers, Union Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and his Army of the Tennessee crossed the Mississippi River and drove the Confederate army of Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton into the defensive lines surrounding the fortress city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Cadets will refight the Union assaults on 19 and 22 May at the Stockade Redan and learn invaluable lessons in leadership. Friday 27 March 2015 Depart for Vicksburg MS to arrive NLT 1630 at the NaEonal Park Museum to tour the museum & watch the Vicksburg BaVle film. -­‐ Depart for the 168TH ENGINEER BRIGADE Armory (1364 Armory Rd Vicksburg, MS 39183). -­‐ Set up Bivouac & Dinner -­‐ Aber dinner (A), Cadet classes and briefings. The focus of this
leadership experience will be
the engagements at the Stockade
Redan. You will walk where they
fought. You will learn how they led. In a
challenging Tactical Exercise you will
plan, prepare and lead your team
against an opposing team and win
or lose over this same
battleground.
Saturday 28 March 2015 -­‐ 0700 MRE+ Breakfast (C) -­‐ 0800 Depart for Vicksburg. Walk the baVlefield and see the main areas of the Vicksburg BaVlefield. -­‐ 1100 -­‐ Stockade Redan, walk the baVle and listen to briefings at key decision points. MRE Lunch -­‐ 1330 Conduct TEWT (TacEcal Exercise Without Troops) in small teams. Red vs Blue. -­‐ 1700 Depart the baVlefield for Armory. Dinner (A) & classroom leadership sessions. Sunday 29 March 2015 -­‐ 0700 MRE+ Breakfast (C), clean Armory -­‐ 0800 Depart for Vicksburg to raise the US Flag over the NaEonal BaVlefield, visit the museum and the USS Cairo River Gun Boat and discuss war & technology. -­‐ 1200 EOM and MRE lunch "…Vicksburg is the key.
