Programs and Services
Advocacy Services
Advocates build relationships with
homeless families and connect them
to resources for housing, medical,
financial, and legal assistance and other
community resources needed to return
to self-sufficiency. They meet with
guests during orientation and in follow
up meetings to help guests track their
progress toward self-sufficiency.
Dream it, Design it, Do it (D3)
D3 encourages teens to design
project-based enrichment activities
that incorporate technology, foster
leadership and critical-thinking skills
and engage their community. PSP’s
approach to youth development is
supported by our partnership with The
Pearson Foundation’s New Learning
Institute which developed the D3
model. D3 increases the likelihood that
students will understand the goals of an
activity, learn new educational concepts
and recognize how those concepts are
relevant to their future success.
Early Childhood Development
Program
People Serving People operates a
licensed weekday preschool serving
infants, toddlers and preschool children
whose families live at the shelter.
This program earned a 4-star Parent
Aware rating – the highest award
possible – from the state’s Department
of Education and Office of Early
Learning for using the best researchbased practices to prepare children for
kindergarten.
Evening Education and Family
Programs
Our Evening Education Program
provides school-aged children
with individual tutoring, recreation
opportunities and access to community
programs such as Boy Scouts. Family
Activities such as movie night and game
night provide fun and stress relief,
and Financial Fitness classes teach
budgeting and money management
skills.
cover letters, prepare for interviews
and complete job applications. Our
employment staff meets individually
with guests to connect them to
education and job training resources,
on-site computer access and provide
referrals to pertinent community
resources.
Family Transformation Support
Services
This is a client-focused program
servings formerly homeless families. It
is designed to permanently end their
homelessness by providing consistent,
high-quality case-management in
seven areas identified as essential to
maintaining self-sufficiency.
Parent Engagement
Supportive Housing
We strengthen families through Parent
Groups and individual support related
to parenting, life skills, and healthy
child development. Bright Beginnings,
a parenting group for new mothers
covering prenatal and infant care topics
is offered in partnership with Hennepin
County’s Healthcare for the Homeless
clinic located at our shelter.
People Serving People offers 10 twobedroom apartments for families with
multi-level barriers to self-sufficiency.
Residents of these apartments pay
reduced-rate rent and can use many
programs and services offered on-site.
Employment Services
People Serving People’s Employment
Advocates work with homeless adults
to assess their skills and history,
create resumes, search for jobs, create
Technology Resource Center (TRC)
We work to close the gap in
communication access between
homeless adults and the online world.
PSP families can access the Center for
resume writing, job searches, e-mail,
and homework assignments.
