PHENOMDEN is an unconventional Reggae singer who was born and raised in Switzerland but
is now living in Kingston, Jamaica. While crossing cultures and styles, the title of his new single
and video is also the guiding principle behind his
eventful travels: NAH GIVE UP.
NAH GIVE UP is a powerful motivation song,
with lyrics reflecting on the often harsh conditions people in Jamaica have to cope with:
‘I know how to help myself, as long as I got life
and health’. The video for PHENOMDEN’s single
NAH GIVE UP was produced in Kingston by top
Jamaican director Ras Kassa (Shaggy, Damian
Marley & Nas, Gentleman, Willie Nelson).
NAH GIVE UP versions the MOTIVATION RIDDIM,
featuring upcoming Jamaican artists Natel, Omari and Prince Levy, alongside Dancehall singer
Angel Doolas and Rasta artist Phocas. The MOTIVATION RIDDIM was recorded in the legendary
Tuff Gong Studio with Kingston’s hot roots band
Raging Fyah and Scrucialists’ guitarist Luc Montini, and produced by PHENOMDEN and fellow
artist Omari.
PHENOMDEN can look back on a successful history as an artist in Switzerland. The four albums
he released there all contained lyrics in Swiss
German and had an appeal that reached far
beyond the Reggae massive. His second album
‘Gangdalang’ spent 43 weeks in the top 100 album
charts and earned Phenomden a gold record. After 10 years of successfully touring Switzerland
and Germany, PHENOMDEN decided to move to
Jamaica in 2010. Since then, he has performed on
several shows on the island, the Blue Mountain
Festival 2014 being a special highlight.
All along, PHENOMDEN has attended vocal
courses at the Edna Manley School of Music.
His debut release in English was GI DI YUTES A
CHANCE (2014) for the leading German sound
Jugglerz. At the same time, Phenomden’s reputation as a gifted songwriter began to spread
when Jamaican singer Sanchez recorded one of
his songs, YOU GIVE ME SHELTER.
