WE ARE SECOND IN THE WORLD
Turkish constructing companies who undersign giant projects on an international
level have not lost the spot of “second in the world” to anyone for the past 8 years.
T
he international construction industry is one
of the top amongst those industries that get
affected by global economic crises; the fact
that the uncertainty in regards to the future keeps
rising and that no balance point can be found has
started to show its effects. The market share of the
largest 250 International Contracting Companies’
has dropped in 2014 by 4.1 compared to the previous
year and reversed down to 521.6 billion USD.
ENR’s “ Uncertainty Casts a Shadow on the Markets” titled release’s opening statement, “The decrease in oil prices, political turmoil and the economic
hitches that embrace the whole world from Europe
to China, worries international companies.” summa144 EKOVİTRİN EYLÜL 2015
rizes the conjuncture that we are in.
Turkish Contracting Companies’ performance
abroad has significantly risen. The total of the 2014
income of the 43 Turkish companies on the ENR list
has risen by 43.4 % in comparison to the previous
year and was realized as 29.3 billion USD. With these numbers, Turkish Companies’ total income which
had a share of 3.8% in 2013 was realized as 5.6% in
2014. Turkish Contractor’s share in regional profit
has shown increase in the whole world. While Turkish
Contracting Companies have almost no presence in
North and South American markets, they are increasing market share in the European, Asian, Middle
Eastern and African markets where competition is

fierce. While China has the biggest market share in
the total market with its 65 companies and 17.2 market share, Spain’s worldwide market share has dropped from 14.7 % in 2013 to 13.1 % in 2014 and USA’s
32 companies’ worldwide market share has dropped
from 13 % to 11.4 %.
Yenigün: “The vast increase
in total profit is pleasing”
After the ENR list was published during his evaluation, Mithat Yenigün the Chairman of the Turkey
Contractors Union said the following:
“To make a mark on this list which is followed by
the world and which is perceived as an assurance of

quality; with a total number of 43 companies, 37 of
which are members of the Turkey Contractors Union
and to be second in the list with the number of companies, right after China for 8 years in a row, is a great
source of pride for us. Aside from this it is very pleasing that our companies have vastly increased their
share in the total profit. Despite of the sharpening
international competition along with the global uncertainty; the problems that the current conjuncture
has created in the Turkish Contractors’’ main markets of Libya and Iraq and the decrease in oil prices
along with the slowing down lately experienced in the
Russian market, the performance shown abroad is a
significant success.”

I
n July you opened a new branch in Germany.
What is the significance of Germany, in Kuwait
Turk’s long run and short run goals?
The detailed research done in the last year’s shows
us that participation banking is on an upward trend in
the world and in Europe. We had the opening of KT
Bank AG as a first step towards introducing Europe with
participation banking and its premier goal is; to provide
full banking services to the European. As Kuwait Turk
we received our license from the German Federal
Banking Regulatory Authority BaF. With this license
we became the first participation bank in Germany that
received a license to realize deposit and loan operations.
We perceive KT Bank AG as a door opening from
Germany to all Europe, as a base. For us this location
is the Europe Central base of participation banking.
Through this location we plan to introduce all Europe
with interest free banking and swiftly expand, in order
to become a preferred spot. We will bring participation
banking services to 4 million potential clients in
Germany of which two thirds are Turks.
We will constantly improve and develop our product
and service portfolio which are in line with participation
banking principles, in accordance with the expectations
of clients here. We hope that KT Bank will be the
preferred number one finance entity in Germany. With
our branches in Germany we aim to provide banking
services based on solid banking principles and ethical
values. We aim to meet our local and foreign clients’
needs of investment and borrowing, with a premium
service standard, advantaged prices and a wide range of

to reach 154 million Euros of active growth by the end
of the year.
n How will Kuwait Turk close 2015?
The first half of 2015 was very successful. We opened
our private banking services under a different directorship,
through which we undersigned a first in participation
banking. In Germany we started our operations with KT
Bank AG. We diversified our financial resolutions for
the pensioner and the married couples, though special
campaigns. We improved our digital banking services
and opened our ‘Your Bank digital banking platform’ to
the service of our clients. We realized sukuk issuance for
the public. Until the end of 2015 we will keep developing
our private banking services and KT Bank AG’s portfolio.
Also until the year end we will have a significant amount
of sukuk issuance. In SME banking we are going through
a new structural change, we are improving our banking
services in this area.
The successful work that we have done in 2015 has
also reflected on the financial results of our first 6 months.
Compared to last year’s same period we increased our
net profit by 17,5% and made 206 million TL net profits.
In the first half of 2015 we increased our total assets by
16.6% compared to the year end of 2014 and brought it

portfolio management, digital banking.
Yusuf Mutlu the owner of
Didim Beach Resort Hotel,
expressed that Turkey needs to
shift to a new structure which
will increase the quality of
tourists; he continued with the
following words, “Instead of
an all-inclusive based system,
a shift towards a new model
which will build added-value,
should be ensured.”
“We need to shift to
high-value added Tourism”
T
he latest stated numbers show that 2015 has
been a year way below expectations from a
Turkish tourism angle. Representatives of
the industry are trying to compensate the drop in
Russian tourists due to the economic crises in Russia and the low petroleum prices with local tourists.
Didim Beach Elegance Hotel owner Yusuf Mutlu,
expresses that the negative outlook in the tourism industry is temporary he continues with the following
words, “We need to start planning for next year and
work towards hosting more tourists.”
Mutlu draws attention to the fact that instead of
an all-inclusive based system, a shift towards a new
model which will build added-value should be ensured. He expresses that we cannot see tourists who
visit our country as visitors of Turkey who are lodging but should perceive them as people who make
investments, he continues with the following words,
“We need to shift to a new structure in Turkey which will increase the quality of the tourists.
Nowadays, tourism has spilled-over the typical trio
of sea, sand and sun. It is only a profitable industry,
when you can create a difference though added value. Instead of an all-inclusive based system, a shift
towards a new model which will build added-value
should be ensured.”
Russian and British Tourists Prefer Didim
Yusuf Mutlu expressed that Didim is differentiated from the other touristic regions with its natural
beauty and its sea coast, he continued with the following words in regards to services provided by the
Hotel: Didim Beach Resort & Spa is located in the
