A day in which 5 people in the Supreme Court of the United States of America (SCOTUS) overrode the decision of 50 million American citizens with regards to the definition of marriage. I am deeply saddened that five people could redefine that which their Creator both Wednesday: Praise Team Practice: created and defined as marriage between one man and one 5:00 pm women. SCOTUS has made a decision that will have horrific Bible Study & Prayer: consequences for our society. They have decided to act in a 6:30 pm S3 Youth & Children’s matter that only God can act, they have defied God through abandoning that which is natural and affirming that which is Ministry: 6:30 pm both unnatural and immoral. God have mercy on SCOTUS and the activists that have sought to defy logic, abandon milSpecial points lennia of history, and walk away from the righteous standards of interest: of God. I am reminded of what our Lord said in Luke 17:1-2 Pastor’s Pen "“Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one God at work at LLBC through whom they come! 2 It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the Heart of Worship sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to We are building sin." My heart breaks to see the many people throughout again! this nation celebrating this decision. I am dumbfounded by Calendar of events the masses who can celebrate the desecration of the institution of marriage, the flagrant disregard for the Word of God Men’s Breakfast VBS: The Download and the removal of the democratic rights of the "land of the free and the home of the brave". May God have mercy on Lemonade Stand the USA. Church, I urge you to stand for truth and righteous New Wednesday ness. We, believers, have been instructed to seek first the Studies Kingdom of God and His righteousness. We are called to New Singles Sunday love as Christ loved us. Therefore, we are to love people to Christ, but this love does not compromise on truth and rightSchool Class Page 2 eousness. We love the sinners to Christ, yet we hate all sin. We are the salt and light into this wicked nation that has seemingly no moral compass. May the love of Christ be seen in the way in which we interact with this world, standing for truth and righteousness. Furthermore, I urge you to commit yourself to prayer as we call on our God to have mercy on this nation that has continually turned its back on its Creator. We also need to pray for the church. May our Lord protect His church and use her to impact this depraved society for Christ. Yes, Same sex marriage is "legal" in all 50 States of the USA.....however it remains immoral and an absolute abomination to God. Let there be no question with regards to what the Bible teaches and I, your pastor, stand on: Homosexuality is a sin, and marriage was instituted by God and defined by Him as being between one man with one women. Here I stand! Pastor Anton God at Work in Lake Lure Thank you Lord! Yes, we can only thank God for allowing us to be a part of this very important ministry that He is using to impact many lives for His Kingdom. We were greatly blessed this month to have Ken and Patsy James and Elaine Hamby Wilson unite with LLBC in membership. Throughout this month the men have continued to meet on Fridays for their morning study and prayer time. The ladies have expanded the ministry through meeting both in the mornings and evenings to study, fellowship, pray and do life together. The ladies also hosted a ”Summer kick-off” event, for the whole family, at Cedar Creek Stables. This was an great time of fun, food and fellowship. The S3 youth have just completed their “Not a Fan” study, and will continue to meet throughout the Summer on Wednesday evenings. The kid’s ministry have been very busy developing new policies and procedures that will help us as we grow. They also hosted a training session in which all volunteers had background checks done and were trained in basic first-aid, CPR, and general children’s ministry. On June 7, we held our first ever graduation recognition service. During this time we honored Vinnie Davis, a graduating senior, and Davis Young and Rachel Rich, who are both graduating pre-school. The Sunday school continues to grow as we have now begun a new class that is specifically suited for singles. Vacation Bible School was a huge success. We ministered to a total of 50 children over the 5 days, with a high attendance of 44 children. Thank you to all the volunteers that came out to help. We averaged around 40 volunteers each night. The greatest blessing was to be able to see Alyssa Vickers and Conner Davis place their faith in Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. Throughout this month you were able to give approx. $1000.00 to both local and international missions. You also gave $700. 00 to missions in S. Asia and Ukraine. Furthermore you sent $5000.00 to help the Bridge Church in Holden Beach with the purchase of their new worship center. Therefore, you gave a total of $6700.00 to missions for the month of June. Church, God is at work in Lake Lure and throughout the world. Thank you for faithfully serving him and being available to do whatever He calls you to do, Stand strong! July 15th @ 6:30pm NEW Adult Study: Fresh Encounter - Fresh Encounter by Henry Blackaby, Richard Blackaby and Claude King guides believers through the biblical pattern of experiencing God's presence which leads to revival in the church and a spiritual awakening in the world. As churches today search for the right ministry to reach their community, this study will help them return to their "first love" of Jesus Christ so He can work powerfully in them and through them. Fresh Encounter is designed to aid churches and individual believers to return to a faithful relationship with God and become catalysts for revival. We are now awaiting resumes to be consider for this very important ministry position. Please pray as we now actively pray and seek the person that God has in mind for this very important ministry. Pastor Anton Page 6 Issue 80 The Heart of Worship Worship is more than an hour or two on Sunday morning or even an hour on Wednesday night. Worship means more than singing praise songs and/or hymns and listening to a sermon. Worship is a lifestyle of living a life that is pleasing to the Lord, placing Him first in our lives, and having a genuine relationship with him. We develop this lifestyle of worship by growing in God’s Word, prayer, service and witnessing. We are called to worship through every aspect of our life, whether at home, school, work and even on vacation. Personal worship is one on one communion with God that brings us to a closer relationship with Him. Experiencing God’s presence when a certain song comes to our heart, mind and lips, offering up a spontaneous prayer of thankfulness, crying out to God in desperation, spending time in His Word, meditating on His Word, and other creative expressions that gives God the glory for who He is, now that is personal worship. Worship is a daily practice. Psalm 34:1 states, “I will extol (lift up) the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.” Too often we want to treat our worship of God like a vending machine. We walk up at the appointed time (Sunday or Wednesday), make our deposit and selection, and expect what comes out to fill and satisfy us. However there is very little filling and satisfying from a vending machine, and if we haven’t spent time daily worshiping the one True, Creator, God, then we will probably walk away on Sundays feeling unsatisfied. Author Jerry Bridges has this to say, “The vitality and genuineness of corporate worship is to a large degree dependent upon the vitality of our individual private worship. If we aren’t spending time daily worshiping God, we’re not apt to contribute to the corporate experience of worship. If we aren’t worshiping God during the week, how can we expect to genuinely participate in it on Sunday morning? We may indeed go through the motions and think we have worshiped, but how can we honor and adore One on Sunday whom we have not taken time to praise and give thanks to during the week?” So how is your personal worship today, this week, this month? Will the worship you bring this Sunday and every Sunday be an overflow of the worship you have given to God all week long? I want to challenge us to spend adequate time in personal worship, and see what happens when we gather together on Sunday! James T. Cain Music Director John 4:23-24 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” Issue 80 Page 19 Shoe Box Corner Ahh, warm summer days ; lazing at the beach, or a park, or even your own backyard. If only it would last forever. But, sadly, the sale papers are telling us that in just a few short weeks school will be starting again. Oh, no! We may fuss a bit about going back to school but in many countries children are praying for the right to go to school and for the necessary supplies. As you have your child's list in hand of what he or she needs to go back to school please remember our shoe box kids. This is the BEST (cheapest! ) time to get school supplies. If you're not sure what to get- besides the usual pencils, pencil sharpeners, small note pads, etc- please contact either myself or the Children's Ministry Director, Jennifer Cain. Thank you for your faithfulness to God's children! Praise God for His saving power, Conner Young and Alyssa Vickers committed their life to Christ! Malorie Upton decided to take the next step in her faith by being baptized. We look forward to running the race with these new believers. The total number of Children that were ministered to over the week of VBS was 50, the high attendance evening was 44 kids. We averaged 40 volunteers each evening. VBS would not have been possible if not for your hard work, sacrifice, countless volunteer hours, donations of finances and goods and most of all prayers. Our church family truly glorified God by Proclaiming His Cross, Living His Word and Demonstrating His Heart! You’re the BEST! I am so honored to serve alongside each one of you! Josh 1:1-9 After the death of Moses the Lord speaks to Joshua about leading the Israelites into the promised land. God’s word to Joshua is “to be strong and courageous”. He says it three times and in verse 9 He tells him, “not to be terrified or discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”. God gave Joshua something to have, to do and to be, just as he has for us today. To Have- His presence, power, and promises. To Do- To lead the people to the Promised Land and obey His word. To Be- Strong and Courageous. You can see God’s encouragement to us, all through scripture. Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear. John 14:27b Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. Jos 23:14 Joshua’s farewell to the leaders “Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all of the good promises the Lord gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled, not one has failed. What are your circumstances, challenges, and fears? May I encourage you with the following scripture? Jos.23:9-10 says, “The Lord fights for you just as he promises. Issue 80 Page 16 Issue 80 Page 9 A Holy Life Leviticus 11:44-45 As Christians we live a life that is different---morally excellent, ethically beautiful. It's called a holy life. And God honors that. Because it's like He is. And according to Ephesians 5:1, we are to mimic God, living as He lives. All of our Christian lives we have sung the old hymn "Take Time to Be Holy." Those words are true. It does take time to be holy. It certainly takes time to be mature. It takes time to cultivate a walk with the Lord that begins to flow naturally, because the enemy is so much more assertive and powerful than we . . . and so creative, so full of new ideas on how to derail us and demoralize us. We need to lock onto that power that comes from God's presence and invite Him to cleanse our thoughts, to correct our foul speech, to forgive us completely, and make us holy vessels who, like those winged seraphim, spend our days bringing glory to His holy name. Take a really honest look at your walk. Are there any areas where old sins have begun to take control again? This would be a wonderful time to allow Him to bring fresh order out of longstanding chaos. God has called us to be holy, so let's be holy. Breaking Ground for Phase 2A We praise God for His provision of the funds to be able to break ground on Phase 2A on July 5. Phase 2A is the expanding of the “old building” towards the river. We will be creating a 18 x 55 foot room that will give added space for fellowship, Sunday school, youth and children’s ministry. Currently we have enough funds in the bank, and commitments for donated labor, to complete the outside of Phase 2A. Yes! God continues to bless LLBC with all she needs to continue in effective ministry for His Kingdom. We are in need of a further $20 000 in order to complete Phase 2A. Would you consider making a sacrificial gift towards this needed expansion campaign? We need your support in order to complete this phase of the building campaign without going into debt. Please feel free to call me, if you need more information or are able to contribute. 828 429 8825 Pastor Anton Issue 80 Page 10 Missions 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1 0 Country Lagos Mumbai Karachi Dhaka Kolkata Kinshasa Delhi Shanghai Addis Ababa Tokyo Nigeria India Pakistan Bangladesh India Congo DR India China Ethiopia Japan Population in Millions 64 50 50 49 34 34 33 30 30 30 The challenge for the Church, in this vastly changing demographic, “Is how to address the current situation and as well as prepare for the future.” One particular challenge noted by Johnstone is that 23% of the world’s population, that is two billion, will be slum dwellers by the year 2050. This will entail a strategy directly aimed at addressing this situation with Christian workers fully committed to live and minister among this huge segment of the cities. What is our responsibility in the present hour and how do we as a local church prepare to commit human and financial resources to address the challenge? These are questions to which we must seek the Lord’s wisdom and then plan to address as the Lord of the harvest provides human and financial resources. What a blessing it will when we hear our Lord say, “Lake Lure Church, blessed are you for being faithful in the time of harvest.” Jim Colon LLBC Missions Director Page 15 Kids of the Kingdom Patrick Johnstone, in his book, “The Future of the Global Church,” notes that by the year 2050 the urbanization of our planet will include 23 cities of over 20 million which are termed meta-cities. Projections of urbanization include 46 cities of 10-20 million listed as super-giants. Ninety one cities of 5-10 million are called super-cities and mega-cities of 1-5 million are projected to increase to 521. In total 805 cities of over one million. The attendant chart notes the top ten cities with the projected populations. City Issue 80 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 Wow, what an awesome VBS! Lilani headed up such a blessing to so many children. Praise the Lord, two kids accepted the Lord as their Savior on Thursday night. It was such a great time for all those involved. The kids are already looking forward to the one next year. Sunday, July 5, will begin a big change in the children’s ministry! Thank you to all who came out for the special training we did for those working with the children. Now those new policies begin to take place. Parents, there is an information sheet for you that gives all the new details. Personal items such as diaper bags and sippy cups will need to have a child’s name on them. The biggest change will be signing in and out of a child. Parents must sign a child in and receive a tag for nursery and children’s church. Once service is over, parents MUST return their tag to retrieve their child. We are a growing church and need to start implementing safety procedures. This is a great time in children’s ministry at LLBC. We hope you would come join us and be a part of things. July 27 from 10 am - 3pm there will be a lemonade stand set up at Cedar Creek Stables. The kids are doing this fundraiser again to help with the building project of phase 2. I will need lots of lemonade and cookies for the kids to sell. I also need extra chaperones to help things run smoothly. There will be a sign-up sheet in the fellowship hall to help with the needs or you can see me if you are willing to assist with this great project. Calling all fathers and sons!! July 31 and Aug 1 will be the annual Father/Son campout. We will announce the location a little later, but be prepared to bring your tents, sleeping bags and fishing poles. Please let James or I know if you are interested. It is a great time for the men and boys to fellowship and mentor together. It is open to all males of all ages of the church. There will be a sign-up sheet and more details to follow. There will also be a church wide pet show on Aug 28 from 5-8 pm. We will have a ‘pack your own picnic’ supper and fellowship time together. This will be a fundraiser to help with the needs of our local Humane Society. The entry fee will be an item from the list of needs that will be handed out closer to the time. Anyone still wanting to help with the children’s ministry on Sunday or Wednesday please see me. There is still a place for you to serve. The children’s ministry is growing here at LLBC and you don’t want to miss being a part of it! Jennifer Cain Children's Ministry Director Page 14 Issue 80 Issue 80 Page 11 S3 Youth Ministry Don’t Give Up! Bible Reading: Galatians 6:7-10 Don’t get tired of doing what is good. Galatians 6:9 NO SUPERMARKETS. No pizza delivery. No convenience stores. No drivethroughs. No restaurants. That’s what things were like when the apostle Paul wrote his letter to the churches of Galatia. You see, in those days, most people grew their own food in their own fields. During the spring they would have to work long, hard days plowing the ground and planting seeds. Then all summer they would take care of what they had planted, which involved weeding, watering, and keeping the wild animals from stealing or destroying their crops. In the fall they would harvest and store their food for the winter. If a man and his family got tired of planting or weeding or harvesting and decided to quit, they would be in big trouble. The only way they could be assured of having something to eat that winter would be to keep going. They couldn’t run down to the grocery store or supermarket for a can of creamed corn. They couldn’t order a pizza. If they didn’t work hard through the spring, summer, and fall, they would go hungry all winter. It’s the same with us. Fighting temptation and making right choices can be hard. It can be a pain sometimes to be the only one in your family (or class or neighborhood) who’s trying to do right. That’s why Paul, in today’s Bible reading, says, “Don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time” (Galatians 6:9). No matter how hard it gets, don’t give up. No matter who makes fun of you, don’t get discouraged. No matter how tough it is, don’t get tired. Keep leaning on God. Keep asking him to help you. Keep making right choices. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it. God’s Word assures us that those who persevere will someday “reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.” REFLECT: Do you ever get tired of fighting temptation and making right choices? Do you ever get discouraged and feel like giving up? What does God’s Word promise to you if you keep following God and obeying his Word? PRAY: “Father God, I do get tired of fighting temptation and making right choices sometimes. Thank you for the encouragement to keep following you—and for your promise that I’ll ‘reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time’ if I don’t give up. Help me to keep going and to please you in everything I do.” *** From www.josh.org/youth devotions by Josh McDowell*** What a blessing to see so many kids at VBS! We have several more workers signed up to help us with this growing ministry. Please know there is still room for you! Over the next several weeks and months we will be implementing new policies. Starting on July 5, we will have a new check in procedure for kids ages kindergarten and under. With the growth of the church, we need to bring several of our policies and procedures up to date. We began with background checks and training for all those working with children. There will also be a new sign in procedure. You will receive a tag upon checking in your child and MUST present the tag upon retrieving your child after service. Diaper bags, sippy cups and all other personal items need to be marked with the child's name. There will be a information sheet given out this Sunday. Please make sure to read over the details and let me know if you have any questions. It is an exciting time in the kids ministry! Please keep it in your prayers and even better jump in to see how God is working in the lives of these young ones and their families. Come be a part of all God is doing at LLBC! If they compare themselves to others, they will likely be content in their walk. If they compare themselves to Christ, they will continually strive for holiness and Christlikeness.” "For every look at self, take ten looks at Christ" Robert Murray M'Cheyne Sun Mon 5 Praise Team Practice, 9am Sunday School, 9:45am Worship, 11am Baby Dedication, Groundbreaking Service & Fellowship Meal, 11am Nancy Johnson 6 12 Praise Team Practice, 9am Sunday School, 9:45am Worship, 11am Baptismal Service, 11am 13 July 2015 Tue 7 14 GRBA Pastor’s Conference, 11am Wed 20 21 Missions Emphasis 26 Praise Team Practice, 9am Sunday School, 9:45am Worship, 11am 27 Kids Ministry Lemonade Stand @ Cedar Creek Stables, 10am-3pm GRBA Quarterly meeting 28 Fri Sat 1 Praise/Sound Team Practice 5pm Adult & Kids Bible Study & Prayer, 6:30pm & Youth Minute to Win it Challenge Kathy Goss Rachael Rich 2 Bi-Vocational Pastor’s meeting 6:30Pm GRBA 3 Prayer Meeting, 7:30am 8 Praise/Sound Team Practice 5pm Adult & Kids Bible Study & Prayer, 6:30pm S3 6:30pm Baptismal Service, 6:30pm 9 10 Prayer Meeting, 7:30am 11 Micheala Nelon (S3) Jillian Cain 15 Praise/Sound Team Practice 5pm Adult & Kids Bible Study & Prayer, 6:30pm 16 Bi-Vocational pastor’s Meeting, 6:30PM GRBA 18 Pastor Anton to Preach at Rutherford Correctional Facility S3 Youth Spaghetti Surprise , 6:30pm Ladies Morning Bible Study Group at LLBC, 9-11 am 17 Prayer Meeting, 7:30am S3 Youth Boys Fishing Trip Ladies Evening Bible Study Group at LLBC, 6-8 pm 24 Prayer Meeting, 7:30am 25 Men’s Breakfast. 8:30am @ LLBC Crystal Redmon 19 Praise Team Practice, 9am Sunday School, 9:45am Worship, 11am Thu 22 Praise/Sound Team Practice 5pm Adult & Kids Bible Study & Prayer, 6:30pm S3 Youth Viking Games, 6:30pm 23 29 Praise/Sound Team Practice 5pm Adult & Kids Bible Study & Prayer, 6:30pm S3 Youth Viking Games, 6:30pm 30 Nicola Roos 4 Independence Day Jamie Cain Sandy Keenan Jeff Lott S3 Youth Hosting a Church Comedy Movie & Pizza Night, 6-9pm 31 Prayer Meeting, 7:30am 1 July 31 & Aug. 1: Miles Nelson Phillip Teague Father/Son Campout Adam Bowles
