The Bastrop Chamber of Commerce Mission Statement
The mission of the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce is to improve the economy of Bastrop and thereby,
the quality of life for all its citizens through economic, community, and leadership development.
The Best Cities For Jobs
By Joel Kotkin,
Executive Editor of www.NewGeography.com
Forbes’ list of the best cities for jobs ranked 398 current metropolitan
statistical areas, based on employment data from the Bureau of Labor
Statistics reported from November 1999 to January 2011. Rankings
are based on recent growth trends, mid-term growth and long-term
growth and momentum. They also broke down rankings by size —
small, medium and large — since regional economies differ markedly
due to their scale. As of 2009 the U.S. Office of Management and
Budget defines the Austin–Round Rock–San Marcos MSA as including
Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties.
No place displayed more vibrancy than Texas. The Lone Star State
dominated the three size categories, with the No. 1 mid-sized city, El
Paso (No. 3 overall, up 22 places from last year) and No.1 large metropolitan area Austin, including Bastrop (No. 6 overall), joining KilleenTemple-Fort Hood (the No. 1 small city) atop their respective lists.
Texas also produced two other of the top 10 smallest regions, including energy-dominated No. 4 Midland, which gained 41 places overall,
and No. 10 Odessa, whose economy jumped a remarkable 57 places. It
also added two other mid-size cities to its belt: No. 2 Corpus Christi and
No. 4 McAllen-Edinburgh-Mission.
These may be far from the best of times, but they are no longer the
worst.
New shopping venue at Wyldwood
Bastrop is losing Lil' Bit of Country from 809
Main St, but we're not losing owner Peggy Van
Blaricom entirely as she will now be displaying
her finds in her new location. Peggy is partnering with Marc Elson, owner of Loblolly General
Goods, and John Weatherford at their new venue,
Wyldwood Market. Each brings their unique design
style into the Wyldwood Market showroom. Peggy
is known in the Bastrop community for finding fine
American primitive and country antiques and collectables. Marc and John have worked together with
Architects & Heroes in Austin and recently reunited
at Wyldwood Market to bring quality 19th Century
European and American antiques, Industrial design
furnishings and custom lighting and restoration to
the new location. Wyldwood Market's mission is to
create an environment that inspires their clients with
a mix of quality and affordable handcrafted antique
furniture, lighting and decorative arts. They invite
you to come browse and bring your personal design
ideas. They offer a full array of design services
that include custom welding and iron work, lighting
restoration and repair, faux painting of furniture,
furniture restoration and refinishing, custom lighting, upholstery, custom lampshades, and replacement hardware. Wyldwood Market is located at
1684 Hwy. 71 West in Cedar Creek, TX. Hours are
Tuesday thru Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 12-4. The
shop number is 512-321-9953.
Lost Pines Toyota Coming to Bastrop
The USA Track & Field, Masters, held it’s 5-state Regional
Championship at Memorial Stadium, in Bastrop on July 23. There
were 200 participants ranging in age from 35 to 85 competing in
various runs, race walks, hurdles, throws and jumps.
Carlos Liriano, dealer-principal for Lost Pines
Toyota, celebrated with a ground breaking at the allnew Lost Pines Toyota dealership site in Bastrop,
Texas, on Tuesday, July 12. The new dealership will
feature a level of customer conveniences and amenities previously not available in the Central Texas
area. In addition, Lost Pines Toyota will be the only
automobile dealership facility in the area incorporating
the latest “green” sustainable technologies and design
features. Construction will begin immediately on the
34,000 square-foot facility. The design is careful to
complement the history and architectural context of
the Bastrop area. Lost Pines Toyota will incorporate
rock and other indigenous design features. The facility will be pursuing the LEED standard, targeting the
Gold level of certification. LEED is the Leadership
in Engineering and Environmental Design designation
with the U.S. Green Building Counsel.

Welcome New Members…
The Board of Directors approved the following new members at its monthly meeting. We appreciate the investment
these new members have made in the chamber and we ask that you give them your support.
Bastrop has a new VFW post
and the Chamber of Commerce is
very proud to welcome to its membership, the Joaquin R. Tello VFW
Post 12104.
They were instated in February
of this year and have been actively
helping veterans in the community.
Their goal is to be an active post
helping not only veterans, but also
the youth of the community. The
good will of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars reaches far beyond the realm
of veterans helping veterans. In fact,
direct involvement with America’s
youth and communities has always
been and always will be a VFW priority. From local grassroots efforts
to national influence, they work
everyday to make a difference.
VFW Post 12104 does not currently have a building and are holding monthly meetings at a personal
residence. They are holding fundraisers to generate the money to buy
or build a home for the post. They
are also actively seeking members,
growing stronger with each new
individual. The only thing needed
for membership is that you served
overseas during a war or conflict
and also provide a copy of your
DD214 with a completed membership application and the annual fee
of $25. For more information, contact Wally Morales, Commander at
512-988-0426 or Sandra Ballard,
Adjutant at 830-857-0562.

partners and community.
CCABC differs from many other
booster clubs in that they exist as
one large booster club for the entire
school rather than to support a single
sport or team. The efforts of parents, administration, coaches and
the community pool together in a
joint effort to support and promote
all student-athletes, the athletic
program, academics and the entire
school. In its first year, CCABC
sold merchandise, business sponsorships and football programs; organized events such as Homecoming,
sports banquets, parade floats, sports
kick-offs and fundraisers; and also
managed and oversaw the indoor
and outdoor concession stands at
all school events held on campus
and/or Memorial Stadium. With
funds raised through these activities,
CCABC provided needed items and
assistance in many areas during the
school’s first year.
CCABC invites the business
community to join them this year
as they work towards their goals to
support and promote Cedar Creek
High School. When you support
CCABC, you take satisfaction in
knowing that that you support every
student athlete, as well as the school
as a whole, in the pursuit of excellence in all areas. You are invited
to make a home sporting event this
year. For information and upcoming
season schedules, see their website
at cedarcreekathletics.com.

questions or sponsorship opportunities, please call Lori Tuggle at
