“I did not want to go to a public
school. I chose Bishop Miege for
a Christian education”
Moriah Goracke
(Hope Lutheran)
I shadowed here last year and
was treated like family. It
continues to feel like home and I
love going to a Catholic school...I
can’t imagine a day without
praying. I feel “appreciated” at
Miege.
Jacob Swaney
(Saint Ann)
“I have siblings who have/had
attend(ed) Miege. They liked it, I
like it and my parents really like
it”
It was a good choice for me. I
like everything—The teachers,
CMT, Robotics, Page Pirates and
I really like Theology.
Thomas Miller
(Good Shepherd)
“Miege is the most diverse school
that I looked at. It is a very nice
place to be and easy to get along
with everyone”
Gracie Gyllenborg
(Cure of Ars)
My parents graduated from
Bishop Miege so I have grown
up knowing the school. I love
meeting new people, the sports,
and all of the activities.
M
Sydney Tumberger
(Holy Spirit)
Emi Stroder
(Saint Elizabeth)
BE A STUDENT FOR THE DAY and shadow a current Miege freshman. It’s the
perfect opportunity to meet other students, faculty and staff at the school.
(see pg 10 for information on our shadow program)
I shadowed here last year and really liked the atmosphere. Now, that
I’m a Miege student, I like that my classes are very challenging.
Christian Munoz (Our Lady of Angels)
This publication is for families of middle school students in and around the Bishop Miege community.
Designed as an informative piece about the school’s scholastics, spiritual journey and faith-filled
atmosphere. We hope you enjoy the “Almost Miegian” and consider Miege your school of choice.

“Miege offers a one-of-a-kind community
that unites people from all over the city.
There’s always an opportunity to get
involved, no matter who you are.”
- Nolan Gray (Good Shepherd)
Nolan Gray was recently named among the
nationwide pool of Semifinalists in the 2015
annual National Merit Scholarship program.
The award is based on the highest scoring
entrants in each state on the PSAT/National
Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. He also
scored a 35 on his ACT exam.
Not only is Nolan a scholar, but he is involved
in many activities and clubs breaking the
traditional sterotypes that come with the
association of being smart or an athlete.
When asked how he manages to be such
a well-rounded student, he shared some insight into his
accomplishments.
M
Balancing Activities: Working through my schedule day by day and activity by activity
really helps me from feeling overwhelmed. I tell myself than no matter what happens,
I’ll work hard and stay committed. Miege’s teachers, coaches and faculty members
always have an understanding nature that makes involvement possible.
The Benefit of Being Involved: Being involved allows me to have a full Miege
experience. I’m able to meet and know all types of people, building unique and lasting
relationships. It’s made my high school experience significantly smoother and more
enjoyable.
Faith Playing a Roll: Miege’s strong commitment to God
has provided me with a multitude of oppportunities to
serve others. I’ve been able to directly serve those
in need while on mission trips and fundraisers.
Sports: Football, Basketball (Varsity)
Clubs: Robotics, Spirit Club
Activities: Band, Jazz Band, Debate
Honors and Achievements: Football Varsity Captain. Lettered in football, basketball
and robotics. All-district band. STUCO class Vice-President. Debate Treasurer and
Co-Captain
Advice to Future Miegians: “Get EXCITED!..high school is
not a challenge but a great opportunity to grow as a person.
You’ll meet new and interesting people and make lasting
relationships, but only if you get involved and jump into the
fray.”

FALL 2015
Introducing...
A New Engineering Program
Target Date
Fall 2016
PROJECT LEAD THE WAY
A Four-Year Program
At Bishop Miege, we continue to strive to provide innovative educational
opportunities for our students. In addition to our STEM (science, technology,
engineering, math) focus, our next step is to implement a four-year engineering
program into ourcurriculum.
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) - A four-year engineering program:
PLTW courses provide a high rigor, project-based curriculum aimed at building problem
solving, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.
The program will help students build the math, science, and technology skills to prepare
for and succeed in tomorrow’s careers. Students may receive college credit for the
courses offered.
• Introduction to Engineering Design (Year 1)
Using computer aided design (CAD) software,
students use the design process to create,
sketch, analyze, render, and construct solutions
to various challenges.
• Principles of Engineering (Year 2)
The focus of this course is to build, test, and
analyze solutions through problem solving.
Topics include mechanisms, energy, statics,
materials, programming, machine control, and
kinematics.
• Civil Engineering and Architecture (Year 3)
Students will apply their knowledge of
engineering principles to the design and
development of residential and commercial
projects. Students will use architectural 3D
software to communicate their solutions to a
variety of real world challenges.
• Aerospace Engineering (Year 4)
This course explores the evolution of flight,
navigation and control, flight fundamentals,
aerospace materials, propulsion, space travel,
and orbital mechanisms.

A Guarantee Found Only at Bishop Miege High School
Dr. Joe Passantino, President:
“No matter what level a student enters Bishop Miege High school, we can
measure growth in college readiness like no other school in the area.”
MIEGE ACT PREP PROGRAM
We selected the ACT testing program as the yardstick for measuring our college readiness
effectiveness because:
The ACT – together with student GPAs – is the best predictor of success in college
because it is based on college readiness standards
An Answer to Parents Questions: How Does My Child Measure Up Compared to Other College Bound
Students nationwide: ACT Prep Program
Here’s How it Works for each and EVERY student:
• Assess students knowledge when they enter
• Implement the instructional program >>All Students >>Embedded into the Curriculum
• Assess at the end to measure gain/growth
• Gage effectiveness by comparing the student gains to the “expected growth” as determined by
national norms
■ Students take seven retired ACT tests by their Senior year, increasing their confidence and
reducing anxiety
■ Progress is regularly communicated to parents
■ Bishop Miege High School is the official site for three actual ACT exams
Super Scores...Super Scholarships
• 11.9 percent of the Class of 2015 scored 30 or above on the ACT exam
• One Perfect Score of 36
