Kindergarden TK Kasih Ibu at Kinunang and TK Pertiwi at Pulisan
The kids of TK Kasih Ibu Kinunang in March have to be “evacuated” temporarily, after torrential rainfalls
in mid-January had badly damaged the grass roof. In Manado and vicinity the rain claimed 27 victims in
landslides and floods, and more than 40.000 people temporarily lost their homes. Entire quarters of
Manado were flooded, mudded and littered, bridges ripped away , roads destroyed. Manado in total chaos.
Health Posts Posyandu Kinunang and Pulisan
Thanks to the foundation our bi-monthly health service in two villages could be continued throughout
2013. This health service is frequented a lot as not only the service is for free, but also the medicine.
Though our nurse Feibe Waigiu last year achieved her degree in specialized nursing, she continues to
serve the villagers and allocates time. 350.000 Rp per visit is her payment, paid by our charity.
On-the-spot Donations 2014 : Tini Palar (Indonesia) 500.000 Rp, Walter Linner & Brigitte L.Weber, (Germany) 500.000 Rp, Silke Stolze (Germany) 20 Euro, Christine Delphy (France)

One last time we urge you for your support to SAVE BANGKA ISLAND and
its pristine waters
Should you still consider where to put your donation instead of
christmas presents, here you go:
IN THE HEART OF THE CORAL TRIANGLE … an outrageous crime takes place!
Freundeskreis Lembeh-Pulisan-Bangka e.V. (betterplace.org)

September 24th, 2013 the Indonesian Supreme Court (Mahkamah Agung) issued a verdict that
compelled the Regent of North Minahasa to cancel all the permits he had granted to Chinese
company PT. MMP to mine iron ore on Bangka island. The verdict underlined Indonesian Law
that protects small islands less than 2000 km2 from destructive activities. Bangka measures
only 47 km2 . The lawsuit had been filed by the dive resorts associated in the North Sulawesi
Watersports Association, together with ten Bangka islanders, being assisted by local ngo
AMMALTA, and — fiancially – by our charity, Friends Of Lembeh-Pulisan-Bangka.
The verdict was kept secret though, and withheld at the Supreme Courts Secretarial level.
Only several months later we managed to get the verdict sent back to the court of origin,
Manado, and had the head judge file a letter asking the Regent to immediately execute the
verdict. He didn’t comply though.
By the end of February 2014 the company instead forced the landing of two first vessels with
heavy machinery near Kahuku village, against the fierce resistance of Bangka islanders, and
being protected by strong police forces. While the provincial government chose to ignore the
verdict and grant full support to the Chinese, our intervention on all levels, including the Chief
of Indonesian Police, remained without results. Even strong admonishment by the Indonesian
Commission For Human Rights and the Presidential Commission UKP4 was ignored. Nation wide
media coverage by several TV and radio channels as well as newspapers didn’t show any result.
On the contrary, being protected by massive police force, the Chinese proceed rapidly
destroying the north of Bangka. The villagers of Kahuku being forced into resettlement, the
coastline and its corals destructed for the building of an industrial harbor and the mining
infrastructure. Absolutely shocking...
Being encouraged by the change of President and National government in July 2014 we started
another legal attack in Jakarta in October, and—at the same time—intervene on the ministerial
level, trying to get direct attention by the new president Jokowi, while a large coalition
consisting of Greenpeace, Change.org, Friends Of the Earth, JATAM, ICEL,
IndonesianCorruptionWatch, KakaSlank, Ammalta, Tunas Hijau works on the media coverage
and try to arise publicity. This is our last chance to stop the destruction of unique Bangka
island. Please help us !

2014 Guest Calender
January brings us for a second time DIRK & MANDY Peppinghaus from Germany, who arriving with a full
bag of toys, drawing books and pens on December 23rd, are seen by our kindergarden kids as Santa Claus
in action… Fischer family, residents in Jakarta, spend their Christmas holiday, and little daughter Aliki
together with her father take a dive course. Guess who did better….
In February our new family bungalow from highland carpenter village Tombasian arrives, in bits and pieces
though - by boat, which need to be carried and re-assembled by ten carpenters during three days.
Well, almost—the fine works finally
we have to accomplish ourselves...
and his team fitting doors and
Katrin sanding and painting, Uli
windows, ceilings and the roof.
March We have to renew the kindergarden — roof which was badly damaged during torrential rainfall in
mid—January. The kids have to temporarily emigrate to teacher Marzeni’s home.
“Indojunkies” Melissa Schumacher and Petra Hess arrive for a short visit, doing research for their Online
and book project “Sulawesi—On the Road and Inside” .
In February 2015 it will be available. Pre-orders here
http://indojunkie.com/sulawesi-buch-und-ebook/
April Bernhard Kohlhepp & Ria Grefe bring toys as their “easter egg”
for our kindergarden kids.
Christine Zumbeck, dive-”zombie”, starts a second “attack” on Pulisan
her weapon: Laughter bombs—terribly contagious. Mountains don’t
scare her either. She vanishes during a Mt Lokon hike and falls on
her a….
Katrin looses her soles (not ground control, though).
May Katrin spends three weeks in Germany, visiting her parents
June With June arrives Harry (Harald Jaissle), almost having become a Pulisan institution—for his 5th
visit. Sometimes together with wife Susi, sometimes without. Climbing Mt Lokon Katrin’s foster son Xaver
wins the race, 2nd Harry, and—far behind…. Katrin
Football World Championship Fan Harry had to watch late night
in villagers houses, as we don’t have TV. He soon became more
interesting than the leather !

Coral Day Bangka KitaBangga
a fundraising—event,
to finance our resistance. Danke,
Thanks Christine, for the
adoption of corals.
The resorts on Bangka
together with Pulisan
found the
Bangka Conservation Fund.
July The Besenbaeck—Kogler—Clan from Austria arrives and together with families Dockal (D) and Berner
(CH), almost over-exhaust our dive center’s course capacity. But Sonly stays cool, “sempurna” - as always.
Thanks, Edgar Kogler, for the
generous Bangka donation.
You helped us financing several
actions.

youngest dive course participant
August
Peak season, we are full up under the roofs. Families Muelleneisen,
Pfitzner, Huonker, pensioner couples Heidi & Dieter Rentschler, Sonja & Sigi Frech.
September just like at Madame Tussaud’s old resort factotes arrive: Elke Heilingoetter (20.9.—8.10.,
fifth stay), UW– photograph master Thomas Blumenstock (“Blumi” or “Bung Tom”), from 15.9.—3.10. (7th
stay). Although “dream couple” Mr & Mrs Keode” don’t exist in this constellation any more, single Bung
Tom finds a nice holiday counterpart in Tanja, his bungalow neighbour. Even Katrin joins diving and touring.
From October 20th to 26th Katrin, together with godson
Xaver escapes to Borneo to track Orang Utans, Longnose
Monkeys (Proboscis), Gibbons and Crocodiles.
November
Katrin has to leave to Germany for her father’s funeral - long cold, foggy
weeks…
Angelika & Helmut Behrends (29.10 11.11, fourth stay) bring lots of chocolate Santa Clauses. Friedel Hahn
(19.11.—3.12., 2nd stay) despite his age of 73 is keen diving every day.
So are Karen and Arthur, NL, they get hooked on the underwater beauty.
December the second new Family bungalow arrives from
the highlands — enough to create work during low season time in Pulisan.
Happy New Year - All best & We hope to see You back in 2015 !
