IRA TOWNSHIP — Ford’s
Jon Kozak would like to forget
how last wrestling season went
for him.
Kozak, a senior now, suffered a
broken leg at the county wrestling tournament a year ago and
had to default out of the 152pound championship match.
After roughly two months of
healing, Kozak broke the same
knee at individual districts to
put an end to his season.

Rodriguez returned to Morgantown, W. Va., from Toledo on Friday afternoon and had no comment. “Going to practice. I’m
going to practice,” he told The
Associated Press. West Virginia
athletic director Ed Pastilong
said he had no knowledge that
Rodriguez had talked to Michigan. Rodriguez played at West
Virginia under coach Don
Nehlen, who was a former assistant coach at Michigan under Bo
Schembechler. In 2001, Rodriguez replaced Nehlen who retired following the 2000 season.
Rodriguez turned down a chance
a year ago to leave West Virginia
to take the head coaching position at Alabama. He is slated to
make $1.8 million next season on
a contract that has been extended through 2013. He also has a $4
million buyout clause. Beilein,
who handled his own buyout situation, had a $2.5 million buyout
clause. Beilein would make no
comment on the football coaching search or on Rodriguez following Friday’s basketball practice. “No comment at all please. I
don’t know anything, anything,
anything,” Beilein said. Rodriguez has been credited with pioneering the spread offense while
at Glenville State and fine-tuning it since. He has accumulated
a 60-26 record at West Virginia

DETROIT— For Detroit Red
Wings forward Mark Hartigan,
scoring his first goal since Oct. 6,
2006, in Thursday’s loss to the Edmonton Oilers was the easy part.
Now the 30-year-old forward
has to find a way to stick with an
NHL club.
The Wings are Hartigan’s
fourth NHL team in seven seasons. In 81 games in the league,
he’s got 17 goals and 10 assists.

HOCKEY:
LCN still
leads series
Continued from Page 1C
jammed inside.
L’Anse Creuse North holds a 4-3
advantage in the series since the
formation of the MAC conference
in 2004. The loss dropped LCN to 22-1 in the White and 4-2-1 overall.
North started the game on a tear
as senior forward Geoff Clanton
scored on a rebound of a shot by
fellow senior Sam Divozzo at 9:26.
Four minutes later, Divozzo
opened a 2-0 lead when he netted a
shorthanded goal on a breakaway
against goalie Justin Hentschel.
The Lancers roared back 19
seconds later when Mike Dyjewski scored on the power play. Dyjewski’s one-timer from the slot
would be the first of three
straight power play goals and
four consecutive scores by
L’Anse Creuse.
Dyjewski found the back of the
net again at the 2:44 mark, with
helpers going to Scott Anderson
and Frontiera.
An unusual bounce on an
opening face off dump-in gave
the Lancers the lead just five seconds into the second period. Kyle
Schubel was credited with the bizarre power play goal.
Champine slammed home a
brilliant pass from Dyjewski near
the side of the goal four minutes
later, opening a 4-2 lead for LC.
Again, the trailing team found
the wherewithal to mount a
comeback. Senior defenseman
Kory Bonk snapped a shot that
found its way through a crowd of
bodies in front of the net, cutting
the Lancers lead to 4-3.
Freshman forward Lee Wytka
tied the game up at 4-4 with a
power play goal with 2:20 to play
in the second. Derek Obertyniuk
fired a shot toward the goal that
deflected off Wytka’s leg and into
the net.
Hentschel made 22 saves on the
night, a performance worthy of
his All-MAC selection last season. Mutart turned aside 18 shots.
