Beste Leden,
Dear Members
Het NVB de dag van vandaag. De kaap van 200 leden
bereikt.
De vereniging zijn fundamenten zijn momenteel gezet.
De naamsbekendheid onder de leden, industrie is een
feit de dag van vandaag.
Niet alleen zijn we een volwaardig gesprekspartner
geworden in de duikindustrie, ook hebben we gebouwd
naar de toekomst toe.
Afgelopen maanden hebben we hard gewerkt aan een
nieuwe website die in een nieuw jasje zit en hopelijk
opener geworden is met betrekking tot informatie.
Met zijn allen streven we naar een productie volle maar
zeker ook naar een veilige industrie.
Sinds het begin van dit jaar en heden las ik met
verbijstering dat er reeds rond de 30 dodelijke
beroepsmatige duikongevallen zijn gebeurd wereldwijd.
Toch even iets om bij stil te staan. Gelukkig hebben we
in Nederland een hoop mensen die instaan voor de
veiligheid en de belangen van mensen werkzaam in de
duikindustrie. Waarin veel persoonlijke vrije tijd en
energie in zit om dit te voorkomen in Nederland. Het
gaat niet alleen om het geld en dagen maken, ook dat je
veilig en gezond weer thuis komt na een klus.

IHC Merwede neemt Hytech over ter versterking van haar positie op de offshore markt
IHC Merwede heeft op 3 mei 2011 Hytech overgenomen. Hiermee verstevigt het bedrijf haar positie op de offshore markt aanzienlijk. IHC
Merwede bouwt dive support schepen waarmee duikactiviteiten tot een diepte van 300 meter ondersteund worden. Hytech ontwikkelt
de hiervoor benodigde apparatuur aan boord van het schip. Door de bundeling van kennis en equipment is IHC Merwede nu ook in staat
complete offshore diving systemen in eigen beheer te ontwikkelen. Hiermee past deze acquisitie in de overnamestrategie van IHC
Merwede die gericht is op het aanbieden van totaaloplossingen in al haar maritieme divisies.
Win-win situatie
De overname resulteert in een win-win situatie voor beide partijen. ‘Dankzij Hytech hebben we nu een kenniscentrum voor offshore diving
activiteiten in eigen huis en kunnen onze offshore schepen nu zelf voorzien van diving equipment’, zegt Goof Hamers, President van IHC
Merwede hierover. ‘Bovendien zijn we door onze grote financiële armslag in staat Hytech versneld te laten groeien.’ Jan Lagrouw, directeur
van Hytech, ziet de toegang tot essentiële know-how als een absoluut voordeel. ‘Deze kennis, gecombineerd met een financiële impuls, stelt
ons in staat grotere, complexere en kapitaalintensievere diving systemen te ontwikkelen, te fabriceren en te onderhouden.’
Efficiency en veiligheid
Het voordeel van verbeterde integratie mogelijkheden van schepen en diving equipment is meerledig. Door de efficiencyslag die kan worden
gemaakt, kunnen de schepen sneller worden gebouwd. Dit resulteert in kortere levertijden. Ook het schip zelf wordt door integratie
efficiënter en veiliger. Bovendien kan IHC Merwede nu, naast de standaard diving systemen die tot op heden worden aangeboden, unieke
klantspecifieke, innovatieve diving systemen ontwikkelen.
Stabiele factor
Het bedrijf Hytech dat in 1989 werd opgericht, opereert al jarenlang wereldwijd succesvol en constant in een sterk fluctuerende, specifieke
markt. Hytech bedient, naast offshore, meerdere markten zoals defensie-,chemie-, en de medische wereld. Door haar hoge kwaliteit,
innoverend vermogen en flexibiliteit neemt ze een toonaangevende positie in op deze internationale markt.
Gezamenlijke ambitie
Hytech heet vanaf heden IHC Hytech B.V. Onder de vlag van IHC Merwede zal het bedrijf zelfstandig blijven opereren en haar bestaande
activiteiten handhaven. Beide bedrijven streven echter een ambitieus groeipad na. Samen zullen ze zich in eerste instantie gaan richten op
het uitbreiden van het full service principe, wat het ontwikkelen in bedrijf stellen, onderhouden en afnemen van duiksystemen betreft.

IHC Merwede richt zich op de voortdurende ontwikkeling van haar ontwerp- en bouwactiviteiten voor de gespecialiseerde maritieme sector.

Caspar Domstorff joins Bluestream Board
Bluestream Offshore has announced that Caspar Domstorff is a new Shareholder in the company and will be a member of the
Board. His appointment follows Bluestream's securement of multiple construction and IRM projects in the Dutch Sector.
Caspar Domstorff has over twenty-five years experience in the oil and gas, subsea and maritime industries, with prominent
technical, operational and management roles in subsea and maritime companies. He will contribute entrepreneurial and
business development expertise and flair, along with considerable experience of the ROV, diving and rope access capabilities
at the heart of Bluestream's service offer.
As a former owner and Managing Director of the GB Diving Group of specialist subsea companies, Caspar Domstorff was at
the forefront of advancements in ROV and diver-based capabilities, including the development of remote technology since
mid 80’s. Following the company’s acquisition by SMIT International N.V. in 2007, he became the Global Salvage Director of
SMIT’s worldwide marine salvage division. In February 2010, Caspar Domstorff stepped down from the company, following a
takeover by Dutch dredging company Boskalis. His wish to return to more entrepreneurial roles in the oil and gas subsea
industry led to his acquisition of substantial shares in Bluestream Offshore in the Netherlands. Along with strategic,
commercial and operational expertise, Caspar Domstorff will contribute technical and creative insight and maintain an
independent perspective on the company's business strategy and further development. His network of businesses,
background and respected position in the industry will also help to leverage Bluestream's competitive advantage on the
international stage. Bluestream's Managing Director Rolf de Vries said: "I am delighted that Caspar has joined the Board of
Bluestream. His knowledge and experience of our core disciplines and the market will impact significantly as we grow and
develop Bluestream’s service provision". Caspar Domstorff commented: "I have a tremendous respect for the Board of
Bluestream and the company's capabilities. I am honoured, not only to have been asked to join the Board of Shareholders, but

In Memoriam
De in Libië overleden Nederlander is de 61-jarige Ton van Delft uit Leiden. Hij werkte daar als duiker voor een bedrijf in de olieindustrie en stierf aan een hersenbloeding, vermoedelijk veroorzaakt door een gebrek aan medicijnen tegen epilepsie.
Het grootste deel van die medicijnen, werd zo’n anderhalve week geleden gestolen toen Van Delft en twee collega-duikers
werden overvallen door aanhangers van de Libische leider kolonel Kaddafi. De duikers bevonden zich op dat moment op een
ommuurd complex waar meer buitenlanders verbleven. ,,Hij was beroofd van alles behalve zijn paspoort en een deel van zijn
medicijnen’’, vertelt zijn dochter Berbel die in Leiden woont.
Na de overval zat het drietal twee dagen opgesloten. Ze slaagden erin te vluchten en trokken vervolgens naar het
rebellenbolwerk Benghazi. Daar overleed Van Delft vermoedelijk aan een hersenbloeding. Sectie op het lichaam moet dat
uitwijzen. ,,Hij probeerde het na de overval uit te houden met de beperkte voorraad medicijnen die hij nog had’’, aldus zijn
dochter. ,,Hij minderde noodgedwongen zijn doses omdat nieuwe pillen niet verkrijgbaar waren. Hij was als het ware aan het
afbouwen maar donderdag is hij toch overleden.’’
Van Delft was zijn leven lang beroepsduiker, en vertrok 9 februari dit jaar voor de laatste keer vanuit Leiden naar Libië. Hij was
in Leiden getrouwd en had een dochter. Als hij niet voor zijn werk in het buitenland zat, was hij in die tijd fanatiek rugbyspeler
bij DIOK. Na zijn scheiding vertrok hij zo’n 22 jaar geleden naar Canada waar hij opnieuw trouwde en nog twee kinderen kreeg.
Zo’n vier jaar geleden keerde Van Delft alleen terug naar Leiden maar bleef duiken, hoewel hij inmiddels supervisor/uitvoerder
was.
Ton is als jonge kereltje begonnen met duiken toen hij in Leiden duikers aan het werk zag. Hij vond dat ook wel wat en vroeg
brutaal of hij het ook eens mocht proberen. Toen hij uit het water kwam was hij verkocht en heeft sindsdien niets anders
meer gedaan. Ton was trots op zijn werk als beroepsduiker en sprak hier dan ook graag over.
Je ziet! Het kan zomaar gebeurt zijn. Geniet van het leven, want het duurt maar even!

Ton van Delft, diver, from the City of Leiden in Libya deceased
LEIDEN - The deceased diver in Libya Thursday, the 61-year-old Dutchman Ton van Delft Leiden. He worked as a diver for a
company in the oil industry and died of a cerebral hemorrhage, probably caused by a lack of medicines for epilepsy.
Most of these drugs was stolen a week and a half ago when Van Delft and two fellow divers were attacked by supporters of
the Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi. The divers were currently in a walled complex where more foreigners stayed. "He was
robbed of everything but his passport and some of his medication''says his daughter Berbel who lives in Leiden.
After the robbery the three men two days trapped Sat. She managed to flee and then went to the rebel stronghold Benghazi.
Van Delft probably died there of a brain hemorrhage. Section on the body to tell. "He tried to after the robbery to the limited
supply of medications that he had''says his daughter. "He forced his doses slowed as new pills were not available. He was like
the dismantling Thursday but he is still deceased.''
Van Delft was his lifelong professional diver, and left on February 9 this year for the last time from Leiden to Libya. He was
married in Leiden and had a daughter. When not for his work abroad was sitting at the time he was keen rugby player at DIOK.
After his divorce about 22 years ago he moved to Canada where he married again and had two children.
Around four years ago came back alone from Delft to Leiden but was diving supervisor even though he already was.

COMMERCIAL AND NAVAL DEEP DIVING MANUAL
At the end of 2010 Dr Stracimir and his son Dr Gojko Gosovic
published their in English translated book COMMERCIAL AND
NAVAL DEEP DIVING MANUAL, in which the fundamentals of Deep
Diving Technique and Medicine are described.
The content of the book directs itself on modern deep diving with a
Deep Diving System (DDS) at a depth of over 50 meter (165 feet).
During deep diving, divers utilize two-or three-component oxygen
depleted gas mixtures. In relation to depth, diving between 60 and
200 meter is considered as a standard deep dive; dives over 200
meter are categorized as dives at exceptional depth. Deep diving
can be divided into short-term (bounce) diving and saturation
diving.
The hardbound book contains 485 pages (dimensions 25 x 18 cm /
10””x 7,5”) and describes on a very comprehensive way the
techniques, the operational and medical aspects of modern deep
diving and is provided with many drawings, pictures tables and
schemes.
The book is comprised of three parts. The first deals with the general principals of contemporary deep diving,
related to both bounce- as well as deep diving. The second part systematically examines the technique and
technology of bounce diving; the third part is dedicated to saturation diving.
The intention of the authors is to bring deep diving closer to its readership, primarily to the present and future
generation of deep divers. In their approach, the authors placed key emphasis on the acquisition of general and
specific knowledge in the fields of medicine, deep diving techniques, the application of safety measures, the
provision of specific and general medical aid and the mandatory application of diving discipline, without which safe
and efficient diving is impossible.
The attitudes, expressed in this book are based on concrete research and recommendations issued by authorized
national and international institutions, like the US Navy, the Russian Federation Navy, the International Marine
Contractors Association (IMCA) and the Diving Medical Advisory Committee (DMAC). References to and quotes of
relevant IMCA publications form an integrated part of the extensive information in this book.

Professor Stracimir Gosovic, Md, PhD (born on December 25th 1927), is the founder and was for many years the director of the
Department for Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine of the Navy Medical Institute in Split, Croatia. He was founder of
contemporary underwater and hyperbaric medicine on the area of ex Yugoslavia. He started with hyperbaric medicine as a
scientific and medico-clinical discipline in 1969 and with contemporary deep diving activities, including open sea saturation diving
in 1977. In the time between, modern navies before the Yugoslav Navy accepted saturation diving technology that was until then
practised only by the US Navy and the Marine Nationale Francaise. Gosovic also organized the modern Submarine Rescue Service
and Training Centre in Divulje (Split).
During his very long career he wrote and published 120 professional and scientific papers and nearly ten book as single author and
participated in writing more books, manuals and university textbooks. Amongst others he wrote “Ronjenje u Sigurnosti” . This
book went through five updated and expanded editions in the Croatian language during the period 1971 – 1991. This book was
translated in English under the name “Safe Diving” and published in 1993 by Best Publishing Company. Gosovic published in 1997
the “Croatian Military and Professional Diving Manual”, in which the fundamentals of Naval and Underwater Medicine are
described. In 2000 he wrote the book “Protection of the Respiratory System”
At the end of 2010 Dr Stracimir Gosovic and his son Dr Gojko Gosovic published their – in
English – translated book “Commercial and Naval Deep Diving Manual”.

HEALTH AND SAFETY CATALOGUE / WORKING CONDITIONS CATALOGUE (ARBOCATALOGUS)
The purpose of this note is to provide information about the:
1. Health and Safety Catalogue/ Working Conditions Catalogue for working under hyperbaric conditions
2. Status of the Health and Safety Catalogue/ Working Conditions Catalogue
1. Health and Safety Catalogue/ Working Conditions Catalogue for working under hyperbaric conditions
The Health and Safety Catalogue (arbocatalogus) also called the Working Conditions Catalogue is a new
phenomenon in the Netherlands. In 2007 Dutch legislators decided to give employers and employees at sector
level a significant degree of responsibility for health and safety policy.
Centralised policy rules and regulations will give way to sector-specific customisation.
The standards stipulated in the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbeidsomstandighedenwet) will continue to serve
as a guideline, but employers’ associations and trade unions – the social partners – may agree on the way in
which these standards are to be met in their sector.
Working Conditions Catalogue for working under hyperbaric conditions
In 2008 under the auspices of the Netherlands Diving Centre (NDC), a Committee was formed consisting of
representatives of the diving industry, caisson industry and hyperbaric treatment institutes and included
employers as well as employees.
This Committee developed the Working Condition Catalogue for working under hyperbaric conditions.
The Working Conditions Catalogue was presented in July 2009 to the Dutch Labour Inspectorate for review and
approval. On 1st January, 2010 it was approved and on the 7th July 2010 the approval was published in the
Government Gazette No 10454.
The Working Conditions Catalogue for working under hyperbaric conditions came into force on 7th October 2010
and since that date the Labour Inspectorate uses it in its inspection projects.
In 2010 after the Working Condition Catalogue was published in the Government Gazette the Policy Standards
(beleidsregels) 6.15 Diving work and 6.14 Caisson work were withdrawn. The Policy Standards formed part of the
Dutch Working Conditions legislation.
The Working Condition Catalogue for working under hyperbaric conditions refers amongst others to the BRL,
Beoordelingsrichtlijn Onderhoudssysteem Duik- en Caissonmaterieel (Assessment Guideline governing the
Maintenance of Systems for Diving and Caisson Equipment). The BRL was developed by the Provisional Board of
Experts, comprising of representatives of the diving industry, caisson industry and hyperbaric treatment
institutes.
In March 2006, the BRL was presented for approval to the Minister of Social Affairs and Employment.
The BRL includes: 1) certification requirements and requirements for certifying institutes 2) minimum diving-,
caisson- and hyperbaric equipment requirements and 3) detail sheets with product requirements and inspection/
testing requirements.
The certified maintenance system diving and caisson equipment, which is described in the BRL, is required in
accordance with Article 6.15 a in the Working Conditions Decree, however the Ministry has failed to appoint
certification institutes, making it impossible at the moment to meet the obligation of having a certificate as proof
of keeping a proper maintenance system.
The requirements in the BRL are viewed as the "industry standard".
With the approval of the Working Conditions Catalogue for working under hyperbaric conditions the BRL
(Assessment Guideline governing the Maintenance of Systems for Diving and Caisson Equipment) is now the
minimum standard, except for certification, to be complied with.
An English version of the Working Conditions Catalogue for working under hyperbaric conditions and the
document BRL (Assessment Guideline governing the Maintenance of Systems for Diving and Caisson Equipment)
are currently not yet available.

2. Status of the Health and Safety Catalogue/ Working Conditions Catalogue
The Dutch Labour Foundation has issued a document called ”What is a Health and Safety Catalogue” which
describes amongst others in Art 1.6 the Status of the Health and Safety Catalogue, also called Working Conditions
Catalogue, and it reads as follows:
This section answers two questions. First of all, are the social partners obligated to draw up a Health and Safety
Catalogue, regardless of the level at which they operate, and if so, to what extent? Secondly, to what extent does
having a Health and Safety Catalogue in a sector also impose obligations on the employers and employees in that
sector?
To answer the first question: a Health and Safety Catalogue is not compulsory. No one can or will order the parties
to draw up a Health and Safety Catalogue. It is a voluntary agreement between the social partners. Since the
Working Conditions Act was amended on 1 January 2007, parties have the option of developing a Health and
Safety Catalogue.
That catalogue allows them to arrive at agreements that will guarantee certain levels of protection. The Labour
Inspectorate uses the Health and Safety Catalogue in its inspection projects.
There are, however, consequences if the sector decides not to draw up a Health and Safety Catalogue, or if it
cannot agree on one. The first consequence is that the Labour Inspectorate, bearing in mind the risks in the
sector, may decide to conduct more inspections in that sector than in sectors that do have a Health and Safety
Catalogue. Another consequence is that the Labour Inspectorate will use the existing policy rules as a basis for
enforcement during its inspections.
There are also consequences if the sector decides to draft a Health and Safety Catalogue, however. To begin with,
the sector will be subject to fewer inspections than sectors that do not have a Health and Safety Catalogue.
Secondly, the Labour Inspectorate will use the Health and Safety Catalogue as its standard for enforcement.
In other words, the Health and Safety Catalogue is not free of obligations. Once it has been adopted and positively
assessed by the Labour Inspectorate, then companies operating within its scope are expected to use the working
methods or measures set out in the catalogue. That is certainly true for the measures and methods focusing on
risks for which the law describes health-related occupational exposure limits. It also applies to risks for which
process standards have been established. Wherever levels of protection have been identified in the Health and
Safety Catalogue, individual companies will be expected to achieve those same levels of protection.
This does not mean that companies in the sector covered by the Health and Safety Catalogue cannot deviate from
the measures it specifies. They may certainly do so, but if they do, they will be obliged to prove that they are
maintaining at least the required level of protection defined in the Health and Safety Catalogue or the Working
Conditions Act.

LEDEN NIEUWS,
Graag stel ik me even aan u voor. Peter Winnen is de naam. Duiker en schipper/eigenaar van duikvaartuig ‘Nixe’. Als exeigenaar van een verhuisbedrijf heb ik 10 jaar geleden het roer volledig omgegooid. Bij de Genie heb ik op 34-jarige leeftijd
mijn duikpapieren gehaald. Na freelance duikopdrachten o.a. op boorplatforms, in bouwputten en in de shipping, heb ik een
werkschip gekocht om deze te gaan verhuren in de duikindustrie voor duikwerk op het binnenwater en in havens.
De ‘Nixe’ is een zeewaardig schip, maar voor duikwerk op zee minder geschikt. Na de aankoop heb ik veel tijd en energie
gestoken om haar aan te passen en te optimaliseren voor haar werk als duikvaartuig (ze is in 1972 gebouwd als inspectieschip
voor de visserij voor de Duitse overheid). De ‘Nixe’ is 24/7 beschikbaar en volledig ingericht voor het gemak van de duiker en
klant. Alle faciliteiten zijn aan boord.
Van duikuitrusting, lucht, camerasysteem en kranen (750 kg) tot overnachtingsmogelijkheden voor 4 personen.
Op korte termijn wil ik ook vanaf mijn boot trainingsmogelijkheden aanbieden voor het verbeteren van
(duik)lasvaardigheden. Ik werk vanuit Maassluis en Scheveningen.
Mocht u interesse hebben om een keer langs te komen om te zien wat ik of mijn schip voor u kunnen betekenen dan hoor ik

WATER JET
A 35-year-old diver from Broome faces months of reconstructive
surgery after a pressurised water jet he was using 40m
underwater on the North West Shelf suffered a catastrophic
failure and blew a big hole in his arm.
Richard Bradley had been diving off Technip Oceania's Venturer
support vessel 148km north of Dampier, where the life of the
subsea infrastructure at the Cossack, Wanaea, Lambert and
Hermes gas fields is being extended by 15 years. Saturation
diving is highly skilled work requiring divers to live for weeks on
the surface in claustrophobic hyperbaric chambers which
simulate being underwater. Inside, they breathe a mix of helium
and oxygen, remaining under the same intense pressure as the
depths they are working in for the duration of the job, earning
up to $2000 a day. Mr Bradley had been inside the system for 10
days when he descended in a diving bell attached to the main
chamber about 4.20pm on March 30. With colleague Richard
Sanderson, he was 40m deep cleaning marine growths off the
subsea infrastructure to inspect the condition of welding when
the equipment failed
. "I was using a supposedly solid, high-pressure water blaster and 20 minutes into using it, part of the stainless steel gun fell
off and I took a hit," he said.
Mr Bradley's arm was ripped apart and the wound was contaminated with debris, seawater and fragments of his hot water
suit. Helped by Mr Sanderson, he dragged himself back to the diving bell along his "umbilical" - the divers' lifeline which
supplies breathing gas, hot water and communication facilities. "The first thing that went through my mind was 'I can't pass
out', as one of the chief dangers is getting sucked into the thrusters of the diving boat . . . big propellers that hold the vessel
on station," he said.
"But we were at a very shallow depth and that was one of the things that saved me - if we'd been at the bottom, where we
were heading, it would be a five-day decompression and I would have had a massive infection."After returning to the surface
chamber, he started emergency decompression at 9pm after stabilising. If he had tried to race to the surface, he probably
would have died from "explosive decompression", which was like "shaking a can of Coke" in the bloodstream. Mr Bradley
finally reached the surface at noon on Friday and was taken to Dampier and then on to Karratha Hospital, where he had
surgery to clean the wound. He was then flown to Perth, where surgeons opened his arm from his elbow to his wrist to
remove more dead, damaged and infected tissue. Now he faces up to four
skin grafts before undergoing rehabilitation and will be off work for at
least six months. He stressed his employers had been "fantastic" and
would cover his medical costs.
"In 16 years of saturation diving in some of the dirtiest and darkest
countries on some of the flimsiest contracts, I have been incredibly
fortunate to have an accident with a company that is looking after me,"
he said. The National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority is investigating
the incident.
Technip Oceania managing director Frans Roozendaal said the company
was co-operating with NOPSA and conducting its own internal
investigation.

Subsea Lifting & Rigging course
The Professional Diving Academy in Dunoon (Scotland) provides a subsea lifting & rigging course, which is audited by
the Scottish Qualifications Authority. This course teaches essential lifting and rigging techniques for commercial
divers, during an forty hours long training syllabus - comprising initial classroom theory, topside practical application
and in-water training and assessment. Three full days are spent in-water learning various slinging and lifting
techniques using a wide range equipment such as, tirfors, chain hoists, lever hoists etc. Safe underwater use of
parachute lifting bags is also an important part of the training program, and training is complimentary to the most
up to date industry guidance.
The course costs are 1080 GBP exc. VAT. Members of the NVB pay 972 GBP!
Although the course is new in the industry and needs to be tweaked a bit it still provides a good basic knowledge of
rigging subsea. The practical part of the course is entertaining and useful.
The diving school can assist in accommodation by making reservations at the Royal Marine hotel for 49,50 GBP
including breakfast and dinner per night.
The course is from Monday till Friday and thanks to the KLM it is possible to take the Monday morning flight there
and the Friday night flight back. Flight costs are € 280.
Diving contractor Smit Subsea Europe is the first diving company in Holland to acknowledge the importance of such
a course and pays € 15 a day extra for divers that posses this ticket.
The total costs door to door, leaving from Holland, for this course (including flights, lodging, drinks at night, cab fares
etc.) came to € 1750.

Onlangs hebben wij met enkele leden van onze vereniging een test uitgevoerd in
het Smit complex te Rotterdam met het op verschillende manieren dragen van
otoplastieken.
Otoplastieken, beter bekent als op maat gemaakte gehoorbeschermers.
Zoals bekent inmiddels een noodzakelijk kwaad, de modernste systemen boven
of onder water voorkomen helaas niet dat wij blootgesteld worden aan een te
hoge geluidsdruk, oftewel LAWAAI.
In het verleden hebben wij dit al eerder geprobeerd maar keer op keer waren er diverse problemen tijdens het gebruik,
gevoeligheid in het oor in combinatie met de duikhelm, geen goede mogelijkheid tot klaren,weinig tot geen comfort en
misschien nog wel belangrijker voor de veiligheid van ons duikers, slechte verstaanbaarheid van de communicatie in de helm.
Met als gevolg dat we terug vielen op het gebruik van standaard schuimdoppen die ook niet comfortabel dragen maar goed,
iets is beter dan niets.
Tijdens mijn zoektocht naar de juiste oplossing zijn wij Sonomax Europe BV tegen het spreekwoordelijke lijf gelopen. Een
otoplastieken producent die zachte oorstukjes maakt welk volgens de producent garant staan voor een hoog draagcomfort.
Tevens zijn de oorstukjes niet geheel afgesloten en bereiken ze hun demping door speciale filters.
De filtering zou zodanig zijn dat je met oordoppen in toch nog de communicatie in de helm kan verstaan….
Je begrijpt, dit wilde wij wel eens meemaken.
Dus afgesproken in het complex van Smit Subsea te Rotterdam en na een korte duidelijke uitleg van Sonomax zijn er een aantal
mensen aangemeten met de otoplastieken. In tegenstelling tot de gangbare otoplastieken waren deze otoplastieken direct
klaar voor gebruik (10minuten) dus konden we verder gaan met onze testen.
Twee duikers in de DDC en gecontroleerd naar een diepte van 50 meter, klaren gaat goed en communicatie is ondanks het
zware filter goed te verstaan.
Het spoelen is goed gedempt en volgens de proefpersonen hebben de oordoppen een prettig draagcomfort. Nu nog de test
met de KM 37 in de duiktank.
Duikers aangekleed en opgetuigd, duidelijk dat
het dragen van een helm goed gaat in
combinatie met de oordoppen. Geen drukkend
gevoel in het oor door de helm en wederom
blijkt de communicatie goed door te komen.
Eenmaal te water ook geen problemen te
ondervinden van de oordoppen
en gezien de reactie van de proef/test personen kan dit nog wel eens de oplossing zijn voor ons lawaaiprobleem onder water,
maar zeker ook aan de kant bij de monitor en speaker als we als supervisor in de container zitten.
Hierna hebben we nog met een bandmask 18B gedoken in de duiktank, dit was helaas geen succes. De vorm van het masker
maakt dat de oordoppen niet prettig zitten en dus niet toepasbaar.
Nu nog even real time een test uitvoeren op een klus in de Noordzee, ben benieuwd, maar met wat ik tot nu toe heb gezien en
ervaren stemt mij positief..!!
Inmiddels hebben we gedoken tijdens een nachtklus, de bevindingen zijn net als in de DCC tank zeer positief…!!
Sterker nog, onze test duiker wil niet anders meer en gaat gewoonweg niet meer zonder de op maat gemaakte
gehoorbeschermers onder water.
Dus beste collega, bescherm uzelf op comfortabele wijze en informeer naar de mogelijkheden bij ons of bij Sonomax.

Op maat gemaakte gehoorbeschermers van Sonomax.

Voor een klant van ons hebben wij een ROV spread
ontwikkeld speciaal voor de inspecties van de
windmolenparken in de Noordzee. Het systeem is
voorzien van een controle room, opslag ruimte, launch
and recovery systeem en twee Saab Seaeye Cougar XT
Compact ROV’s.
For one of our customers we’ve developed a ROV spread for
the inspection of the wind farms in the North Sea. This system
is equipped with a control room, storage space, launch and
recovery system and two Saab Seaeye Cougar XT Compact
ROV’s.
From the control room you can operate two ROV’s
simultaneously. The control room is equipped with two
separated working spaces, each has its own ROV control
system.

with Saab Seaeye.

A DREAM POSTPONED BUT THEY NEEDS YOUR HELP
‘5 juni 2011 vertrekken Dirk en Jane op twee klassieke Harley Davidson’s vanuit Leeuwarden voor een reis van 25.000
kilometer. De reis heeft als eindbestemming Amurang op Noord-Sulawesi, in Indonesië. Met deze reis – dwars door Rusland,
China en Zuid-Oost Azië – willen Dirk en Jane geld ophalen voor een nieuw kindertehuis in Tondano. Dit bouwproject is van
de Leeuwarder stichting “Amurang”.
Harley liefhebber Dirk reed in 2005 al eens naar Peking. Nu gaat hij samen met zijn vrouw Jane deze reis ondernemen. Dirk
rijdt op een HD-1200 cc zijklepper uit 1942; Jane zal rijden op een HD-1200 cc Servicar uit 1968. Dirk heeft alles aan de kant
gezet voor deze tocht en zelfs zijn baan tijdelijk opgeschort om de klassieke motors eigenhandig compleet te reviseren en in
elkaar te zetten.

ochtends de tent ingepakt en 2 bekers warm water voor koffie van de boerin gekregen. Weer op pad. Alles zit mee; ook de
regenkleding kan uit, want het zonnetje komt regelmatig door de wolken heen. Met een snelheid tussen de 70 en 75 kilometer
per uur cruisen we over de Duitse snelweg. Jane voor, ik erachter. Samen gelukkig en samen zingend door de helm
communicatie. Hamburg voorbij en via de A24 richting Berlijn, met als doel Polen voor onze tweede overnachting.
Op een nu rustige snelweg ruim 100 kilometer voor Berlijn, rijdend achter Jane en met grote regelmaat kijkend in mijn
achteruitkijk spiegels, zie ik ineens een megagrote grill van een MAN vrachtauto in mijn spiegel. Ik roep naar Jane: “Kijk uit,
van de weg!”, maar voor mij is het te laat… een drama.
Een vrachtwagen van meer dan 20 ton, bestuurd door een niet-oplettende chauffeur, rijdt met volle snelheid op de achterkant
van mijn motor in. Mijn achterwiel schiet volledig onder de vrachtauto met een spoilerhoogte van rond de 30 centimeter.
Wonder boven wonder blijft mijn motor recht; Jane wijkt direct uit naar de vluchtstrook en ziet alles in haar spiegel gebeuren.
Een gil, een schreeuw, en meer dan 60 meter verder voordat ik samen met de vracht auto tot stilstand kom…
Nog zittend in mijn verfrommelde zadel, roep ik door onze communicatie naar Jane, die 100 meter verder tot stilstand komt:
“Jane, ik ben oké, ik sta nu naast de motor… ik ben oké.” De grote plunjebaal achter op mijn motor met de tent en slaapzakken
hebben de impact van de vrachtwagen op mijn rug opgevangen en de motor weten recht te houden. Wonder boven wonder…
ik ben echt oké. Tino, de chauffeur van de vrachtauto, heeft ook de schrik van zijn leven, en spreekt van geluk. Maar ik ben
boos. En veel meer dan dat verdrietig, erg verdrietig. Een levensdroom op dag 2 kapot gereden door een suffe chauffeur.
Na het bellen van de politie zijn de bezemauto’s sneller ter plaatse dan de politie zelf. Na het opnemen van het rapport en het
maken van foto’s hebben we met 6 man de motor onder de vrachtauto vandaan moeten trekken. Uit de metingen van de slipen de remsporen blijkt dat mijn motor 64 meter vast heeft gezeten onder de vrachtwagen. Aan de remsporen van de
vrachtwagen is te zien dat het nog zeker 20 meter heeft geduurd voordat de vrachtwagen echt vol op de rem stond.
Ik heb de Nederlandse ANWB gebeld, en die heeft zeer snel de ADAC bereikt om beide motoren van de weg te halen en te
brengen naar een dorpje vlakbij: Neu Stadt. In Neu Stadt krijgen we alle support van de garage, ADAC en de ANWB, maar de
schade aan mijn motor is te groot om met spoed te kunnen herstellen om deze reis voort te kunnen zetten. Denkend aan onze
reis die vervlogen is, het kapitaal wat er geïnvesteerd is in de motoren, visums en vergunningen, en vooral niet te vergeten,
het goede doel waar wij met vele anderen zo enthousiast aan begonnen zijn, de “realisatie van het goede doel, “het nieuw te
bouwen kindertehuis in Tondano, Noord Sulawesi”…
Voor het nieuw te realiseren kindertehuis is in totaal €40.000 nodig. Stichting Wilde Ganzen ondersteunt onze inzameling en
vermeerdert ons ingezameld bedrag met 60%. Samen met de benefietwedstrijd in Leeuwarden, afgelopen woensdag, 9 juni,
hebben we nu een bedrag ingezameld van ruim € 7.000.
Nog € 20.000 te gaan…
Jane en ik hebben alles gegeven en doen nu een oproep aan jullie allen om te kijken naar de mogelijkheden voor donaties om
dit nieuw te bouwen kindertehuis te mogen realiseren.

In the morning we clear up our tents and the farmer’s wife gives us hot water to make some coffee. Then, back on the road.
We can even put away our rain wear, because regularly the sun breaks through the clouds. We drive about 70, 75 kilometers
an hour on the German Freeway. Jane is in front, I’m right behind her. We’re very happy and sing together through the helmet
intercom. We pass the city of Hamburg and take the A24 toward Berlin. Our goal is to stay overnight in Poland.
We’re on a peaceful free way approximately 100 kilometers for Berlin. I’m behind Jane and with great regularity I check my
rear-view mirror. I suddenly see a huge grill of a MAN-truck in my mirror. I call out to Jane that she has to leave the road, but
for me it’s too late…a drama. A 20 ton truck, driven by a chauffeur who’s not paying attention, crushes the back of my bike.
The rear wheel gets caught under the truck which has a 10 inch high spoiler. Miraculously my bike stays upright; Jane deflects
toward the road verge and sees the whole thing happening in her mirror. I scream and shout and it takes the truck another 60
meters to come to a halt. I sit on my fumbled saddle shouting to Jane in the intercom: “Jane, I’m okay, I’m standing next to
the bike….I’m okay.”
The tent and sleeping bags on the back of my bike have taken the impact of the truck and they are the reason the bike drove on
in a straight line. It’s a miracle…I’m really okay. The chauffeur of the truck, Tino, has had a great scare and is lucky too.
However, I’m very angry. And more than that, I’m very, very sad. My dream has been scattered to pieces on day 2 because of a
mindless driver. After we’ve called the authorities, the tow cars are first on site. The police assess the situation and take pictures
of the scene. It takes 6 men to get the motorcycle from under the truck. Measurements of the scene prove that my bike has
been stuck under the truck for 64 meters and that it took the chauffeur 20 meters to finally hit the brake.
I call the ANWB, the Dutch motorist organization, to get the bikes salvaged. It reaches us quickly and takes our bike to the
nearby village of Neu Stadt. In Neu Stadt we get all the support we need from the local garage and the ANWB, but the damage
is too great to allow us to continue our journey within a small amount of time. We think about the journey we now cannot take,
about the money that is invested in the bikes, visa’s, warrants and above all, the good cause we are so enthusiastic about: ‘the
new children’s home in Tondano in the north of Sulawesi.’ For us to be able to built the new children’s home, we need €40.000.
The foundation Wilde Ganzen supports our goal and raises our collected money with 60%. Together with the beneficial match in
Leeuwarden on Wednesday June 9th, we collected a little over €7.000. We still need €20.00.
Jane and I gave everything we possibly could. We now want to ask you if you can help us get the donations we need to be able

BESTE DUIKERS
D-tec bvba (Divewise training and education centre) begint in het centrum van Antwerpen met een onderwater lasschool
waaraan een internationaal erkend diploma en certificaat verbonden zijn. De 10 daagse cursus wordt in 6 talen gegeven om
zoveel mogelijk duikers de kans te geven het onderwater lassen onder de knie te krijgen.
Er wordt lesgegeven door zeer ervaren mensen uit de industrie met ieder zijn eigen achtergrond. Door de kennis en ervaring
van de lesgevers te combineren zijn wij erin geslaagd een cursus voor te stellen waarin behalve het lassen oonder water ook
gutsen, PVL branden en andere minder bekende las en brandtechnieken aan bod komen.
Door cursisten kennis te laten maken met verschillende lasinverters,opstellingen,duikhelmen,duikmateriaal,o.w.
gereedschappen,enz. trachten wij gedurende deze intensieve cursus ons steentje bij te dragen in scholing wat uiteindelijk tot
kwaliteitsverbetering lijdt.
Behalve een verwarmde duiktank met zijn infrastructuur beschikt D-tec ook over een "droge" lasklas waar de maximaal 12
cursisten hun laskunsten kunnen/moeten verfijnen onder deskundige leiding.

Wij hopen met dit initiatief de duikindustrie te helpen zodat er meer en meer werk wordt uitbesteed aan professionele
duikers ipv dure alternatieven.

Stop Commercial Diver Deaths
Petition:
We the undersigned call on the EU to improve the safety of commercial divers by standardising the requirements of
equipment safety and training that must be used on ALL diving operations, conducted within the EU.
We require that the EU enact laws to prohibit diving contractors and companies engaged in underwater operations from
supplying substandard equipment and untrained divers.
We require that clients hiring diving contractors and companies engaged in underwater operations be accountable for the
manner in which the operations being carried out are undertaken.
