 Bachelor of Arts, Humanistic Studies, McGill University
 Music Business and Talent Marketing courses, UCLA
 Psychology, Social History and Visual Landscape courses, Harvard University
 DEC Creative Arts and Communications, Dawson College
6
Career Path:
My education and career path may seem somewhat atypical, but have amounted to a
very rich life experience, and a background that proved to be very useful to become a
PR professional. I work in one of Quebec’s top 4 PR agencies, called Octane Strategies. Agency life can be quite hectic, but it is especially gratifying and exciting since I am not
required to commit to working for just one organization or industry sector, since I work
for all of them at once.
As an Advisor at Octane Strategies, I developed tailored integrated marketing
communications (IMC) and branding strategies, as well as having conducted media
relations and media placement for clients such as Target, IOC, Ville de Terrebonne,
Desjardins and the Montreal Heart Institute. I am presently working with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon organizing team, which is based in San Diego, to help them
improve the event, and to define and reach their objectives.
Throughout my career, I have collaborated on projects related to a wide variety of fields,
requiring the constant adaptation my skills, a great deal of flexibility, curiosity towards
many topics and much creativity. Prior to joining Octane Strategies, I have held positions
in research support for organizations, as well as numerous marketing, communications
and public relations roles for enterprises in the energy, real estate, and retail sectors.
Other information:
In secondary school, I was an extremely curious and independent student. I had a
marked preference for exploring topic on my own, and following my own ideas was
always more important than fitting in with my peers.
Extracurricular activities at Trafalgar:
 French improvisation
 Basketball team
 School plays (Selwyn House)
Favourite school topics:
 Art
 Geography

Monica Dinculescu
Software Developer at Google
Education:
 McGill University, B.Eng, Software Engineering, 2003-2007
 McGill University, M.Sc, Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence), 2007-2010
Career Path:
I grew up with computers and old-school computer games around the house, so I always
thought a) they were awesome, and b) getting a computer to do your bidding was even
more awesome. So I did an undergraduate degree in Software Engineering at McGill,
but wished throughout that I had chosen Computer Science instead (more math, less
10
electronics). When I finally graduated, I enrolled in a Masters in Computer Science, so I
could finally work with robots, which are the computers that actually do your bidding :)
After graduating from my Masters, I realized I could either move to Edmonton and do a
PhD, or stay in Montreal and get a job. Packing and unpacking is hard work, so I ended
up working for 3 years for Morgan Stanley, in Montreal. Last year I decided it was time
for a change, and now I work for Google Montreal on Chrome. I am also heavily involved
in community events — I organize a monthly meet-up for women developers, and every
couple of months I teach 9-13 year olds how to code.

Education:
• DES, Collège Jean de la Mennais
• DEC in Pure and Applied Sciences, Marianopolis College
• Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Management, Concordia University
Career Path (in chronological order)
• Elementary school tutor (self-employed)
• Pharmacy technician, Loblaws Pharmacy
• Swing dance instructor
• Marketing assistant at Cat's Corner Dance School (arts)
• Corporate events organizer at the Foundation of Stars (paediatric research)
• Digital marketing strategist at Standard Life (finance)
• Social media manager for Uniqlo at Akuntsu Social Media Agency (fashion)
• Community manager (online marketing, public relations manager) at Planbox,
Spundge and Busbud (tech startups)
• Marketing and communications manager at Wajam (tech startup)
• Co-Founder of Nelinelo (tech startup, retail)
While exploring different industries and career opportunities, I've realized that what I love
most is to analyze how people behave and to try contributing to their lives in a positive
way. Also, I happened to really enjoy doing all of that with technology. These things, I
believe, are what modern day marketing is all about. My story is about how working at a
11
pharmacy, teaching dance and my love for the Internet brought me to choose a
marketing career and to start my own business.
I am currently the marketing and communications manager at Wajam, a successful
technology startup in Montreal. (Startups are very innovative small companies designed
to grow quickly. Apple, Google, and Facebook were all startups at the
beginning.) Officially, my responsibilities are to take care of communicating with
customers, writing blog posts, representing the company on social media (Facebook,
Twitter, etc.), taking care of the company's public relations, and other related marketing
tasks. However, because the startup environment is exciting, fast paced and ever
changing, I have recently been challenged to take on human resources duties, such as
hiring new employees, organizing fun activities for the team, and plenty of other things
I've never done before. It is truly a job full of surprises!

Health Professionals
Katia Betito, Ph.D.
Director, Scientific Affairs – Pharmaceutical Industry
Education
 DEC (Health Sciences) – Marianopolis College
 BSc (Physiology) – McGill
 Ph.D. (Pharmacology) – McGill
Career Path:
Realizing that I did not want to fight for research grants as a University professor, as I
neared the end of my Ph.D. studies, I decided to look to the pharmaceutical industry for
jobs that would meet my skill set – love of learning, drive, passion for science and for
people. After speaking to anyone I could (friends of friends, parent’s friends, strangers) who worked in different departments in pharma companies, I decided on Regulatory
Affairs – the liaison between the company and Health Canada for new drug approvals. I
started in a small company doing everything related to scientific affairs (clinical research,
medical information, submissions to Health Canada and to the provinces) and learned
how to deal and negotiate with marketing, sales, quality control and R&D personnel as
well as with the scientists at Health Canada. I grew in that position, moved to a different
company for a while, adding drug development to the list of experience, and then started
my own consulting company. In that role, I provide strategic guidance to companies in
how to approach Health Canada, what type of submission to file to get their product
approved and how to present the science to Health Canada (and often present for
them). I am also Director of Scientific Affairs for a start-up company that is developing a
21
blood test for immune function. I am the link between the company and the doctors in
Canada who will be helping us to do clinical studies with our product. I am also there if
the doctors have questions about the product. Once the studies are done, I will get the
product approved by Health Canada. I have been doing this for more than 20 years and
love that I am always learning something new and am using my science and business
experience daily.

talk about some of the incredible experiences I've had, and continue to have during my
career, and how I've balanced this with my other full time job as a mother of three.
