Historic Hotels Ghent, the place to
be for meetings and events
Historic Hotels Ghent is a collection of 3 privately owned hotels - Ghent River Hotel,
Hotel de Flandre and Hotel Gravensteen - in the medieval city centre of Ghent.
Ghent River Hotel
The Ghent River Hotel is situated on the right bank of the river Lys. Thanks to its
ancient pier, the Ghent River Hotel is the only hotel that can be reached by boat. The
site encompasses 2 buildings: a Renaissance house, dated 1518, and a rice-mill built on a
burnt down sugar refinery, dated 1857. The building also served as a cotton spinningmill (1873), a warehouse (1879) and a steam actuated bakery (1892).
In front of the hotel you will come across a small square which was served as thread
(yarn) market in the Middle Ages and the 19th century. Next to the hotel you can
observe one of the typical medieval “water streets”. The ‘Vrijdagsmarkt’, one of the
biggest squares in Ghent, lies only a couple of metres away and is the home of the
famous statue of Jacob Van Artevelde.
Hotel Gravensteen
Hotel Gravensteen is located in the medieval city centre of Ghent, opposite of the famous
Castle of the Counts. The hotel is situated in a stylish mansion, built in 1865 and
restored in its Second Emperor architectural style. The sophisticated parlours are a
great meeting place for organising small business events.
Hotel de Flandre
The Hotel de Flandre is ideally located in the city centre, within walking distance of the
Korenmarkt, Korenlei, Graslei, Gravensteen, Design Museum and the 3 towers of Ghent
- Sint-Baafs cathedral, Sint-Niklaas church and Belfort.
This cosy boutique hotel consists of 2 carefully restored coach houses, built in the 18th
century. The building is historically listed and comprises a Napoleon staircase.

Meeting rooms Ghent River Hotel
Ghent River Hotel has 3 meeting rooms, and therefore also the largest capacity of all 3
hotels.
The “Artevelde” meeting room (70m² with a 2m75-high ceiling) is situated in the ancient
Renaissance house, on the ground floor of the hotel. The old beams and brick walls make
this room a unique meeting location. This authentic meeting space offers natural
daylight and can also be darkened if necessary. Its size makes it possible to use this
room in different setup styles.

The “Anseele” meeting room (30m² with 2m80-high ceiling) is located on the third floor
in the new building. This meeting room has a panoramic view on the roof tops of the
ancient Anseeleplein. This authentic meeting space offers natural daylight and can also
be darkened if necessary. Thanks to its location on the third floor, this room is situated
in a quiet area of the hotel; ideal for smaller meetings.
The “Crypte” (100m² with a 2m25- high ceiling) can be found in the basement of the
ancient Renaissance house. This unique location can be the perfect venue for organising
a reception, walking dinner or cosy presentation. Its medieval character provides the
room with a limited amount of natural daylight. The vaulted ceiling and two authentic
pillars do create a unique and historic atmosphere.

Meeting room Hotel Gravensteen
Hotel Gravensteen has one meeting room (40m² with a 4m-high ceiling) which would be
perfect for the organisation of your seminar or product presentation. The room “Donjon”
is situated on the ground floor of the hotel and offers a magnificent view of the Castle of
the Counts. This authentic meeting space offers natural daylight and can also be
darkened if necessary. Multiple setup styles are possible.

Meeting rooms Hotel de Flandre
Hotel de Flandre offers one meeting space in the main building, especially for smaller
gatherings. The meeting room, situated on the ground floor of the hotel, has natural
daylight and can also be darkened if necessary. 19th century features such as a fire place
and wooden floor make this a comfortable and private room to meet.
A larger meeting room is available in the annexe of Hotel de Flandre. The room has
natural daylight and is fully equipped with audio-visual material. Multiple setup styles
are possible.

Take the 4th street and turn into Keizer Karelstraat. Go straight ahead until you
arrive at a roundabout (St-Jacobs-Beverhoutplein) and take the 3rd street on the
right (Ottogracht)
At the end of the street, turn left just in front of the bridge (3rd street,
Speldenstraat). At the right hand side at the end of the street you will find the
“Ghent River Hotel” (Waaistraat 5)
