Upright Digital Display
Even if the telescope is inverted, the
liquid crystal readout always displays digits upright for quick, errorfree reading.
Automatic Self-diagnosis
A self-check is automatically
performed each time the power is turned on. If the instrument is operating
correctly, the panel displays "Good,"
jf a problem exists, an error code is
displayed.

Audible and Digital Target
Acquisition
W hen light ref!ected by a prism is
received, a buzzer sounds and the
numerica! va!ue (between O and 15)
of the returned signal's strength is
disp!ayed on the L CD board. As a
result, fine adjustment during target
sighting is extremely easy. At short
distances,
mere!y point the telescope at the target prism's center.
W hen reflected light is weak, the
panel displays "LO" to indicate that
measurement is not possib!e.

Automatic Environmental
Compensation
This function eliminates the need for
a conversion chart. Betore measuring, simply key-in the values for
the barometric pressure (mmHg or
inches Hg) and temperature (OC or
OF). The instrument
then automatically compensates for these environmental factors betore displaying the distance.
Temperature range:
-25°C -55°C
(-13°F-131°F)
Pressure range:
400mmHg-999mmHg
(15.7inHg-39.3inHg)
Automatic Gurvature and Refraction
Gompensation
W hen the appropriate internal switch
is set, the instrument automatically
compensates
for the earth's curvature and differences in air densit y.
Permanent Prism Constant Storage
Even w hen the main switch is turned 1
off, the preset prism constant is per- L
manently memorized
until a new
prism constant is entered through
~
the keyboard.

Automatic Signal Level Control
The arnount of reflected light is autornatically
attenuated
after target
acquisition,
allowing rneasurernent
to begin irnrnediately.
Distance Measurement Operation
Display
At the start of distanGe measurement, the display's
liquid Grystal
lights and travels from right to lett to
indiGate that the distanGe measurement tunGtion is operating.

Automatic Erroneous. Data
Detection
W hen the spread of the fine readings
exceeds a predetermined operating
range because of hale, stray light,
or any other reason, the microprocessor automatically
detects and
deletes the erroneous data to ensure
accuracy.
Automatic InterruptedMeasurement Resumption
It the infrared signal is interrupted
by traffic, foliage, or other obstacles
during measurements,
the instrument immediately stops operating.
W hen the path is clear, measurement resumes automatically with no
decrease in accuracy.
Incorrect.Data Recognition
If an irregular value (such as an
angle of 30061 '20") is mistaken ly
keyed-in, the incorrect value is automatically cancelled and the input is
cleared.
Two-step Low Voltage Warning
If the rechargeable battery's voltage
is low, the display's decimal point
blinks to warn that normal operation
is possible for only about a few
minutes. W hen the voltage drops
below a specific level, the panel displays "HELP" to indicate that further
measurement is not possible.
Automatic Power Shutoff
If no measurement is made and no
key operatjon is performed within
approximately
four minutes of the
power being turned on, the instrument automatically
shuts off to extend battery life.
Multiple Measurement Modes
This
instrument
provides
three
measurement modes: single, repeat,
and averaged. Selection
is made
with the "AVE" key.
Single measurement: Only a single
measurement is made.
Repeat
measurement:
Measurements are made until a new command is given.
Averaged measurement: After a preset number of measurements have
been made, a buller sounds and the
averaged value of the measurements
is displayed. The instrument
can
make up to 99 measurements.
~
Automatic Slope Reduction
W hen the zenith angle has been
entered, the keyboard can be used
to calculate and display the slope
distance, horizontal distance, and
difference in elevation.
Moving Prism Tracking Function
For construction
staking and other
jobs where time is limited, the instrument allows the measurement of a
moving prism. In the tracking mode,
the distance meter can accurately
measure a prism that is moving
toward or away from the instrument
at up to 2m (7ft) per second. Automatic measurement takes ,place every second, and
display resolution can be
either 10 mm or 0.1 ft.
Stake.out Function
After a preset distance has been
entered, the difference between the
preset distance and the measured
distance is automatically displayed.
This function
is particularly
convenient w hen used in conjunction
with the tracking function. Preset
distances
of up to 9999.999m
(9999.99ft) can be entered.
Coordinate Computation
After distance
measurement,
the
panel displays
the target point's
coordinates (relative to the coordinates of the instrument station). The
X. Y. l. coordinates are calculated
from the previously entered horizontal and zenith angles. Either local
rectangular coordinates or grid coordinates
can be used (easting,
northing).
Coordinates
settings
can range from -9999.999 m to
+ 9999.999 m or from -9999.99 ft.
to + 9999.99 ft.
Caaxial Telescape
Since the EDM's transmitter
and
receiver and the theodolite's
telescope are on the same optical axis,
angle and distance measurements
are performed simultaneously with a
single sighting.
30X, 45 mm.diameter Telescape
A large 45 mm-diameter
aperture,
30X-magnificatian
telescape with an
extra-wide field af view pravides a
clear, erect, unreversed image with
ample brightness. Optianal 20X and
40X interchangeable
eyepieces are
alsa available.
Fully Transiting Telescape
The compact coaxial telescope with
its built-in battery transits 3600 to
eliminate
horizontal
collimation
errors by allowing both target faces
to be observed and measured.
LED Reticle lIIumination
To maintain the instrument's
operating ease at night and in dark areas,
an LED is built in to illuminate the
telescope's reticle.
Finder(Optical Sight)
Far quick sighting,
a callimatar
target finder is pravided an the tap af
the telescape hausing.
Built.in Automatic Zenith Index
The built-in automatic compensator,
with a magnet-type damper, allows
quick instrument set-up and ensures
accurate measurement
of vertical
angles at all times.
~
Easy.to-read Digital Display
NTD-series instruments are available
with 5 different minimum numerical
readings-6",
10", 20", 2mgon, and
5mgon. Large, easy-to-read micrometer and subdivision
index dots
(not included in the 5mgon instrument) provide further reading to 3",
5", 10", and 1 mgon, respectively.
Diametrically Opposed Side Circle
Reading
The horizontal circle is diametrically
opposed to eliminate eccentricity
and increase accuracy.

Optical Plummet
An optical plummet built into the
instrument's
alidade ensures erect,
unreversed
images
and permits
quick, precise orientation over any
given point. It focuses from O.5m
(1.5ft) to infinity and has a 3X magnification.
Coaxial Tangent Screws and Clamps
The
fine-travel
coaxial
tangent
screws and clamps are easy to operate. The horizontal and vertical tangent screw knobs are metal covered
by knurled rubber to facilitate operation with or without gloves in all
types of weather.
Detachable Leveling Base
The tribrach leveling base can be
quickly detached from the instrument to enable the target to be fixed
for traversing. The tripod screw has
a S/8-inch diameter and 11 threads
perinch.
