REMINDER – There will be no daily M-F masses until further
notice, as Fr Beneleit continues to recover from ankle surgery.
In the meantime, Fr. Witmer will be covering weekend masses
for the time being. Please contact the rectory office with
questions regarding specific situations such as funerals /
weddings / baptisms, etc. Messages will be relayed to Fr.
Beneleit. Thank you for your understanding during this time.
Census Update: We are still in the process of updating
our family census profiles. Thank you! To all those who
have returned them. If you haven’t had a chance to
complete your census form, please take a few moments to
do so. We will be following up with a letter to the families
we haven’t heard from in the upcoming weeks.
REMINDER: St. Peter Church office will be closed on
Wednesday afternoons after 12:00 o’clock pm.
TWENTY- FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Parish and Cemetery Fiscal Reports are inserted into this
weekend’s bulletin. Please review them carefully. A partial
recovery of the lost Trust Fund monies from the prior fiscal year
has enabled us to finish the past fiscal year in the black. However,
without these recovered funds, we would show a deficit on the
bottom line for the 2015-2016 financial report to the diocese. This
deficit is a more realistic picture of our parish finances. Due to
the decrease in Sunday collections, we have been able to pay only
a portion of our monthly diocesan assessments. The deficit to the
diocese is presently $42,249 as noted on page two of the report.
On the positive side, the subsidy to our parish school has
decreased $11,000 from the 2014-2015 school year. The per pupil
cost has also decreased by $215.00 per student. If you have any
questions, see a member of the Finance Committee. --Fr. Beneleit
Needed Church Repairs Several weeks ago, Coon
Restoration completed an evaluation of St. Peter Church's
exterior as well as the damaged wall on the south side of
the inside of the church. After reviewing the evaluation, the
following can be noted:
The membrane coating over the soft red brick also referred
to as the "stucco" is an old technology non-breathable
material. Once water enters through cracks in the
membrane, it is unable to escape. Therefore, the bricks
start absorbing the water and it moves through the walls
creating the damage that can be seen around the south
side stain glass window. As water continues to filter
through the brick, it causes deterioration and is made worse
during the winter as the water freezes--causing expansion
and contraction. The brick eventually turns to powder (see
photo's on bulletin boards in church.) This is the exact
damage, that untreated over many years, caused the bell
tower to fall. Our plan of attack is to determine how far
down the brick is deteriorated. It will then be
repaired/replaced and a new technology, breathable
membrane seal will be put on to prevent future damage.
The cost of this project can only be budgeted to a range per
square foot because we don't know what extent the
damage will be until the membrane is removed. There will
be tests to the walls to gage this. This will protect both the
contractor as well as the church.
We will not have a capital campaign for this project. Funds
from the St. Peter Parish Trust will be used. More
information will be provided as we have it. But at the
present time, a cost estimate is in the range of $50,000 to
$100,000. We should soon have a more accurate estimate.
–Fr. Beneleit
Parish App: If you haven’t had the opportunity to
download the app on your smart phone, please take
a few minutes to check it out! We can quickly get up
to the minute information out to you. This has been
very helpful with mass times and confession
information during Fr. Beneleit’s downtime.

U.S. Catholic Bishops’ document entitled “Forming Consciences
for Faithful Citizenship”. This presentation will be held in the

VIRTUS Program The diocese is in the process of
implementing the ‘VIRTUS Program’ as its primary platform
for Safe Environment training. This internationally known
and well respected program specializes in assisting
dioceses throughout the world in creating safe
environments for children and vulnerable adults. VIRTUS
assists the diocese in efforts to recognize and prevent child
sexual abuse. Bishop Murry has appointed retired Detective
Sergeant Delphine Baldwin-Casey, Victim Assistance
Coordinator and Msgr. John Zuraw as the Coordinator of
the Safe Environment Program effective Sept 6. Persons
who have reason to suspect that someone they know has
been a victim should call Sergeant Baldwin-Casey at 330718-1388.
