JOBS
WE’RE INVESTING IN OUR EMPLOYEES
THE MONEY IS
INVESTED IN
OUR NATION.
The profits from Cherokee Nation Entertainment are all around us.
They’re apparent in the thousands of jobs that have been created
inside the Cherokee Nation for Cherokee citizens. They’re witnessed
in the language classes that teach the Cherokee language to children
in classrooms and online. They are evident in the construction of
health clinics across the Nation where citizens receive quality health
care in their own communities. The profits are reinvested in our
Nation to preserve our past, better our present and shape our future.
THIS IS WHERE THE CASINO MONEY GOES.
Stephanie Meeder has experienced
firsthand the Cherokee Nation’s
commitment to creating jobs and
professionally developing citizens.
She began working for Cherokee
Nation Entertainment in 2003 as an
administrative assistant, and thanks
to the Cherokee Nation’s investment
in creating new jobs, she is now the
employee services manager for
Cherokee Casino & Hotel West
Siloam Springs.
Working in employee services,
Meeder recognizes the opportunities
the Cherokee Nation provides for its
citizens. “Our main purpose is to help
our Cherokee Nation citizens become
more self-sufficient,” said Meeder.
“There are so many opportunities for
citizens because of the Cherokee
Nation’s investment in that purpose.”
Every year, Cherokee Nation
Entertainment uses 100 percent of its
profits to meet that purpose—creating
quality jobs and providing social
services for Cherokees. Last year that
investment was more than $88 million.
COMMUNITY
WE’RE CREATING A HAPPY, HEALTHY NATION
Happy, healthy people are a direct result
of affordable and accessible health
care. With that in mind, Cherokee
Nation recently expanded the Amo
Health Center in Salina by adding a
dental clinic. In 2010, the Salina clinic
provided more than 58,000 patients
with health care. The addition of a
dental clinic means another 6,000
patients will be served annually.
Tena Pritchett, a Cherokee citizen,
said she’s thankful that she and other
Cherokees can now be served in Salina,
rather than driving dozens of
11211_CNB_WT$G_Bro Folder.indd 2
extra miles to the nearest dental clinic.
“If we didn’t have this clinic, people
would have to drive to Claremore or Jay
for dental care,” Pritchett said. “Because
it’s a smaller, rural community, people
don’t have a lot of money, so this clinic is
a huge blessing for us.”
The clinic also created 15 new jobs
in Salina, many of which are filled by
Cherokee citizens. Last year, $3.76 million
in casino profits was invested in health
services, some of which helped build the
Salina clinic.
