64 • How to find the right size
Washing instructions
In order to maintain the special properties of each fabric, you should follow the
symbols that specify the care of the garment carefully. These can be found on the
clothing label in your hejco garment. If you are unsure, you will find an explanation
in the adjacent table.

Do not mix white or light-coloured garments with highly coloured garments.
Clean lightly coloured clothes separately from heavily soiled garments.
Wash terry towelling, socks etc separately to woven material.
Avoid soaking garments as this may cause the colour to run.
Do not soak overnight; use the machine’s soak programme instead.
Carry out special stain removal before washing.
Turn garments inside out so that the colour and fabric surface remain in good
condition for longer.
Empty pockets, close zips and velcro strips before washing.
Hand-washing is no more gentle than machine washing. Therefore, clothes
should be machine washed unless the washing symbols say otherwise.
Do not wash at too low a temperature. If the washing symbol advises 60°C you
should not wash at 40°C for example, as the colour can be stabilised at 60°C and
fade at lower temperatures.
Avoid using detergents with bleach for coloured garments.
Do not overfill the machine. This may result in permanent creases that can not be
removed when ironing.
After washing, garments should be stretched before drying.
Some of our garments have ‘do not tumble dry’ on them. These clothes will
tolerate tumble drying but it may cause unnecessary wear to them. Do not
tumble dry woollen clothes.
Do not tumble dry at a higher temperature than the maximum permitted
washing temperature.
Dry clothes should be ironed on the reverse to avoid shiny seams.
STAIN REMOVAL
• Try to remove the stain immediately while it is ‘fresh’ and you know what it is.
Do not rub it in! It should be dissolved. Scrape it off if possible.
• Grease – Remove immediately using pure benzine, acetone or methylated spirits
using the smallest possible amount of liquid (risk of rings).
• Blood – Remove using cold water. Then use hot water with a Biological detergent
containing perborate.
• Coffee – Remove immediately using hot water and a biological detergent
containing perborate.

• Ballpoint pen ink – Methanol or methylated spirits on a cottonwool pad.
Rinse with water.
FABRIC SOFTENER
• Use fabric softener sparingly. Using too much may destroy the textiles.
ALLOWANCE FOR SHRINKAGE
• Remember that cotton fabrics can shrink 2–6%.
