Make summer wardrobe stylish, colourful
From bold and floral prints to various shades of blue - one of the
best things about summer is the presence of vibrant colours in the wardrobe.
Follow an expert's tips to make your wardrobe stylish and glamorous.
Some glamorous designs that can help elevate style statement in
summer are:
ONTARIO - Nissan made history at the recent Le Mans test day by becoming
the first manufacturer of the modern era to run a car at Circuit de la Sarthe
intentionally with no rear view mirrors.
"Garage 56 is unique in motor racing where the organisers have allowed
manufacturers or private entrants to come and do something completely
different," said NISMO Global Head of Brand, Marketing & Sales, Darren Cox.
"Once again, the ACO should be applauded for that but I've got to tell you that
it is a huge task. The car is full of innovation, from the three cylinder 400 BHP
DIG-T R engine to the fact it is the first mirror-less race car of the modern era.
ZEOD is a big task but it has been a crucial stepping-stone towards our LM P1
project. What we learn here provides a huge data bank for our engineers as
they develop the new Nissan GT-R LM NISMO."
The rear view mirror was actually developed through motorsport with the
inaugural Indianapolis 500 winner Ray Haroun using a mirror for the first time
in 1911 aboard his Marmon Wasp.
With four different classes and dramatic closing speeds at the Le Mans 24
Hours, drivers having awareness of the surrounding traffic is imperative.
Nissan has taken inspiration from its Nissan Safety Shield and Nissan Smart
Mirror for the road to develop systems aboard the revolutionary Nissan
ZEOD RC.
The electric prototype is already set to break new ground by becoming the
first car at Le Mans to complete an entire 8.5 mile lap of the Circuit da la
Sarthe on nothing but electric power.

NOW, A SPA TO SUIT
YOUR SUN SIGN
S
o you're a Libran plagued with aching muscles? A one-of-a-kind relaxing zodiac spa
treatment is just the thing for you, suggests Purvaja Sawant. In a country obsessed
with astrology and horoscopes, people often refer to their zodiac signs when it comes
to things like starting a new business venture or tying the knot. Ask Pooja Bedi, a socialite
and spa lover, if she'd indulge in this treatment and she says, "If the treatment offers me a
valid and scientific reason as to why they have specific therapies for the various zodiac
signs, then I don't mind trying. After all, I'm a complete Spa baby! It definitely wouldn't hurt
to try this kind of treatment." So for all of you zodiac junkies, who love devouring Linda
Goodman books, there's an interesting mix of spa therapies that have hit the world of wellness
based on your zodiac. What could be more exclusive than a spa treatment designed and
customised specifically keeping your sun sign in mind? While zodiac spa treatments are
popular in honeymoon destinations like Malaysia, this concept has now been introduced in
Mumbai. Filmmaker Kamaal Amrohi's granddaughter Tabeer Amrohi, director of her own spa,
has designed zodiac spa treatments along with a team of astrologers. She says, "We believe
there is a connection between the zodiac and the body. So all our massages are specific and
target problem areas that affect each sun sign." For those who don't know, according to
astrology, every zodiac sign has a weak body point or organ that is prone to disease or pain.
OBESE WOMEN URGED TO LOSE
WEIGHT BEFORE PREGNANCY
WASHINGTON ; Obese mothers are likely to give birth to babies that are up to 17 percent smaller than
they should have been, making them more vulnerable to diseases, according to a new University of
Illinois study. Even if they eat a healthy diet when they are pregnant, their babies will develop in an
unhealthy environment that places the infants at risk for future health problems, researchers behind the
study said. “We can see fat sequestered in the placentas of obese mothers when it should be going to the
baby to support its growth. The nutrient supply region in the placenta of an obese mother is half the size
of that of a normal-weight mother, even when both are eating the same healthy diet,” said Yuan-Xiang Pan,
a U of I professor of nutrition. Pan blames what he calls the obesogenic environment of the mother, which
includes increased triglycerides, high levels of the hormone leptin, and elevated amounts of non-esterified
fatty acids (NEFAs) circulating in the obese expectant mother’s body. Triglyceride and NEFA levels are
nearly twice as high in obese mothers, even when they consume healthy diets during pregnancy, he said.
“My advice is, lose weight well before you become pregnant,” Pan said. In the study, the scientist
compared the placentas of obese rats fed a healthy diet throughout their pregnancies with the placentas
of obesity-resistant rats fed the same diet. “Although the obese females didn’t gain much weight on the
healthy diet, the obesogenic environment remained, and it affected nutrient transport regulation in the
placenta,” he said. As a result, obese mothers gave birth to babies that were up to 17 percent smaller than
they should have been. The consequences for those infants may be lifelong, making them more susceptible
to disease, he noted. Pan, an epigeneticist, was able to demonstrate for the first time that the DKK1 gene
regulates certain aspects of lipid metabolism in the placenta through the WNT signaling pathway.

Drinking a glass
of red wine could
help you stay slim
LONDON : U.S. researchers
have found a compound in red
wine that can help control
obesity.
The substance,
piceatannol,
delays
the
generation of young fat cells and
prevents them from growing into
mature ones. It is also believed
to protect the body from heart
and
neurodegenerative
diseases, as well as cancer.
The compound blocks
insulin’s ability to activate genes
that carry out further stages of
fat cell formation. The agent
found in wine is also thought to
protect the body from heart and
neurodegenerative diseases and
cancer, according to researchers
at
Purdue
University,
Indiana, USA. “In the presence
of piceatannol you can see delay
or complete inhibition of young
fat cells,” the Daily Mail quoted
lead researcher Dr Kee-Hong Kim
as saying.
“Piceatannol alters the
timing of gene expressions, gene
functions and insulin action
during adipogenesis - the
process in which young fat cells
become mature fat cells,” Dr Kim
explained. The compound is
similar in structure to resveratrol
- a supplement sold in the UK
last year to combat disease - and
is also found in grapes,
blueberries and passion fruit.
Dr Kim, assistant professor of
food science at the university, said:
“We are now testing our idea using
animal model obesity to see if it has
the same benefical functions.”
“We need to work on improving
the stability and solubility of
piceatannol to create a biological
effect,” he added. The finding
was published in the Journal of
Biological Chemistry.

Nissan makes history
at Le Mans with first
mirrorless race car
CONTD. FROM PAGE 25
But on the test day, drivers Wolfgang Reip and Tommy Erdos made
history by completing laps without the mirrors that are mandatory for
every other entry in the 56-car field.
The Nissan ZEOD is equipped with a rear-facing camera that actually
provides a more comprehensive view than the mirrors. In addition, the
car has an inbuilt radar system that not only alerts the drivers about
upcoming traffic, but provides further insight on closing speed through
large arrows on the screen.
The system is able to differentiate between cars that are closing fast, or
those that are staying at a similar distance behind or falling back. The
arrows also change color depending on closing speed. It will also alert
the driver whether a faster LM P1 car is passing on the left or right.
The dual-systems will again be used starting tonight in France for practice and qualifying where Reip will be joined by fellow GT Academy
winner, Lucas Ordóñez plus Japanese star, Satoshi Motoyama. Both
were forced to miss the Le Mans test day due to a clashing Super GT
race in Japan.
"These driver assist systems are just another aspect of future technology transfers that will improve the road cars of the future," said NISMO's
Global Head of Brand, Marketing & Sales, Darren Cox.
"The development of the battery technology will obviously assist the
development of future versions of the Nissan LEAF and other hybrid
models, but lessons learned from the driver assist systems will find
their way into every Nissan model in the future.
"If we have a system which can provide safe and important information
at 300km/h in a high pressure situation, then we can adapt that for use
in road cars.
"One of the reasons why we race is that motorsport helps our engineers
to really fast track technologies and test them in extreme environments.
There is no event or competition more extreme than the Le Mans 24
Hours."
Introduced at this year's Geneva Auto Show, the Smart rearview mirror
is housed within the structure of the rearview mirror, with a built-in LCD
monitor that can be activated in place of the conventional mirror.
A high-resolution camera mounted on the rear of the road car provides
the driver with a clear unobstructed view of the rear flanks, allowing the
ability to check blind spots and other traffic conditions. The camera
projects a clear image onto the monitor to provide the driver with a
better view for a more comfortable driving experience.

Sustain inclusive growth by reducing
housing market risks: OECD
ONTARIO - Canada has experienced solid economic growth since the
global crisis, allowing it to reverse recession-induced job losses and
put federal public finances on a sound footing, says the Organization
for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD). Growth is expected to accelerate from 2.5% this year to 2.7% in 2015.
Despite the overall positive outlook, impor tant challenges remain to
ensure strong, inclusive growth going forward and preserve Canada's
high levels of well-being, according to two new OECD repor ts.
High housing prices in cer tain large cities and household debt pose
financial stability risks that should be addressed. Fiscal consolidation should continue as planned at both the federal and provincial
levels, with a par ticular focus on long-term health costs at provincial
level. Effor ts must be taken to protect the environment while saving a
greater share of resource revenues for future generations, and fur ther
action is needed to ease localised and sector-specific skills shor tages.
Presenting the Economic Survey of Canada 2014 today at the 20th
International Economic Forum of the Americas/Conference of Montréal,
OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría said: "Canada weathered the
global crisis well and has out-performed most other advanced economies since the Great Recession.
Economic growth will accelerate in the years to come, but skills
shor tages in some sectors and regions must be addressed to avoid
constraining growth going forward." Mr Gurría said. "The exploitation
of non-renewable resources must be carefully managed, both to
minimise negative environmental impacts today and to ensure a better tomorrow for future generations."
The Economic Survey of Canada recommends policymakers move to
reduce housing market risks. It calls for a tightening of mor tgage
insurance, so as to cover only par t of lenders' losses in case of
mor tgage default, and a continuing increase in the private sector's
share of the market through gradual reductions of the cap on the
Canada Mor tgage and Housing Corporation's insured mor tgages.
The Survey also recommends that Canada expand low-cost rental
housing supply at the municipal level, notably by adjusting zoning
regulations to promote the construction of more multi-unit dwellings.
The OECD calls for fur ther effor ts to improve fiscal sustainability. The
federal government has made considerable progress in reducing its
budget deficit and is encouraged to stay the course to achieve its
objective of eliminating the deficit by 2015. Never theless, provincial
governments will see rising debt to GDP ratios over the next few
years without fur ther action.
Health care costs pose the most serious threat to provincial fiscal
sustainability over the longer term and should be addressed through
reforms including patient or activity based funding for hospitals, increasing the share of ambulatory care and joint input purchases with
other provinces.

5 easy ways to organize
your wardrobe
GETTING ORGANIZED IS ONE BASIC STEP TO
MAINTAINING YOUR WARDROBE PERFECT.
To reduce localised and sector-specific skills shortages, the Survey
calls for continued effor ts to improve labour market information, in
order to bring students' study choices more into line with labourmarket requirements. It also recommends harmonising apprenticeship cer tifications across the country, so as to increase completion
rates by boosting inter-provincial mobility for apprentices.
The Employment and Skills Strategies in Canada - OECD Review on
Local Job Creation says that greater local-level involvement in the
implementation of employment and skills policies is vital to align
skills development effor ts with employers' needs. The repor t analyses policies in Canada's two largest provinces, Ontario and Quebec,
and makes recommendations on how to better connect employment,
skills and economic development.
The OECD shows that stronger linkages with employers, as well as
flexibility in the design and implementation of policies, are required to
ensure communities can retain and attract highly skilled workers and
jobs.
Greater attention by the education, training and employment systems
to how skills are utilised in the economy would stimulate productivity
and innovation, long identified as among Canada's greatest challenges,
while addressing skills mismatches and helping create quality jobs.
This would also mitigate the decline in labour supply likely to emerge
as the workforce ages. The federal government can promote a 'placesensitive' approach by considering how policies are implemented at
the local level, and by encouraging provinces to take an integrated
approach on the ground.
So, you always land in that proverbial mess when you discover at the end of every weekend when you find complete
chaos inside your wardrobe and you can't find your favoutire
shir t from the mess that you have created. Here's how to
organize your wardrobe for easy accessibility
Arrange according to priority: If formal wear is what you
want to access first, arrange things accordingly by placing
all the for mals at a an easily accessible compar tment.
Accordingly, keep the related accessories in nearby shelves
so that you don't have to look around.
Keep sections separate: Keep different sections for different types of ware. For examples, all your sarees should be
at one place, and the related stuff like petticoats, blouses
should be in the same vicinity arranged in and around the
same shelf or compar tment.
Jewelry and accessories: Precious jewelry and accessories should be kept in a section that has a lock. Stock all
the accessories that you are going to use on a day to day
basis in that locker section.
Don't load it to the brim: Give your wardrobe a de-cluttered
look. Do not pile up all the clothes in it. Only take the best
ones and the ones you are going to frequently use and stack
them in your wardrobe.
Always revise your wardrobe: Make sure to arrange and rearrange your wardrobe at least once in a for tnight. It will help
you remember where exactly you have kept a par ticular attire
or accessory.
