Message from the President
February 2016
Greetings Sunburst Members,
It looks like March is coming in like a lamb this year, so let's hope the it
doesn't exit like a lion. After a relatively mild winter I know that most of
us are “itching” to get that Vette out of storage. There looks like we'll
have a ton of Sunburst events this year, as well as an almost infinite
number of other events to enjoy our rides and each other's company.
Most of you may know that Bill and Jo Hoak are moving in early April.
Bill has done a marvelous job as our NCCC Governor. He has kept our
membership aware of all of the Midwest Regional events and
happenings and he has consistently been a leading point scorer in the
region. Most autocrossers can identify Bill by the sound of that crate
engine and the roar of those Billy Boat pipes. Jo has also been a big help
by being the premier stager at autocross events and now is the Secretary
for the Midwest Region. Their departure leaves a big void in the
Sunburst Corvette Club. We wish them well in the next phase of their
lives.
Now we need someone to step up to assume the duties of Governor. I
hope you took the time to read over the e-mail I sent earlier in the week
outlining the basic duties of the Governor. Long time Club member
Matt Waters, has served in that position previously and he assured me
that he would work with the new Governor during whatever transition
period is necessary. Matt continues to be active in Midwest Region
activities and serves as the “Facebook Dude” for the region. So please
take some time to consider helping the Club by serving as our Governor.
Talk to me if you're interested.

Gary Gembala has put together a “show & shine” event on Saturday,
May 7th. This event is a “two fooder”, starting with breakfast, showing
our cars for a couple of hours at Martin Chevrolet, having a Club
picture taken and ending, with lunch, of course. I would like to see as
many of members there for the photo shoot, because that pic will be
our “calling card” for the year. Mark your calendars now.
On the same Club event note, don't forget to make your room
reservations for the rolling event “Bring 'em Home” (the twin cites two
night event, July 7-9) and the Fall Color Run. The Roberts have
planned first event to escort the West Coast Wanderers (Gembala's et
al) back home to the burbs – contact them for more info. Pat and I are
planning a Club presence up to the Lacrosse, WI area for the second
event, October 7-9.
Don't forget to order to Car Show Tee Shirts. We will have the shirts
available at the April membership meeting and they represent wearable
advertising for our Car Show. Wearing the shirts at cruise nights, car
shows, rallyes, autocross events, even church can help many be aware
of the show. The order will be placed on March 10th.
Finally, I realize the length of last month's membership meeting was
way tooooooo long. That won't happen again. The Board has
considered ways to better manage the agenda and control the length of
“special presentations”. We felt your pain.
Save the Wave,
Mike Stevens

March 2016
Notes from the Gov for February 2016
Hello all. After attending the February governors and NCCC meetings in St. Louis we traveled
down to Hot Springs Village where this month’s missive is being formulated.
There were many things discussed at the governor’s meeting concerning NCCC.
The 2016 convention to be held in Omaha was a big topic of discussion. If you have not been to a
NCCC convention or it has been awhile since you have attended one, this looks like it will be a one
to remember. Not only autocrossing, both high and low speed events but also the following events
and tours are planned for your enjoyment:
Henry Doorly Zoo and IMAX
Lauritzen Gardens
Boys Town
Fontenelle Golf Course
Road Rally through scenic Loess Hills
Borheims Fine Jewelry
Kuck Motorsports and Car Collection
Strategic Air and Space Museum
And other exciting NCCC Competitions
There will a special tribute to honor the military branches and the veterans who have served and are
serving to defend our freedoms. A special corvette, which has been on display at the National
Corvette Museum, will be presented at the Monday evening dinner party. This one of a kind
corvette is a tribute to our veterans and is assisting in raising funds for the Madonna Rehabilitation
Hospital of Omaha, a facility directly impacting the recovery of our service members.
Go to the NCCC website and click on Convention and sign up! Jo and I are going as well as the
Douglas’ we would like for you to join us!
If you are planning on attending the Memorial Day autocrosses at the MSP in Bowling Green send
in the registration and your check because the event now has a waiting list!
The Charity Director for the NCCC has resigned. If you have an interest in becoming the new
Director of Charity, there is an application on the NCCC website.
Speaking of Charity, the NCCC is going to change direction in the way it does the Charity raising
in the future. NCCC for years has raffled a new Corvette to be given away to a lucky winner. With
the Corvette Museum raffling off a new Corvette every month or so, it was harder to get people to
buy those raffle tickets. So, now I have been asked to which of the following charities would you
like NCCC to participate. They are, in no particular order:
9
Notes from the Gov
March 2016
Shiner’s Hospitals
Lions Clubs International
St. Jude Children’s Hospital
The charity committee has examined not just these charities but several others and determined
that these are the best bang for the buck. Please let me know which charity NCCC should
support with this year’s charity raffle by April 1, 2016.
There are 17852 members of NCCC as of this writing. 158 of new members came from new cars
purchased through Chevrolet. NCCC has an agreement with Chevrolet to put an application with
each new corvette delivered.
I know I have requested that all members please have their correct addresses and email addresses
listed on the data base. This is important because when information is mailed and the address is
incorrect, NCCC has to pay to send the information out again. This affects the NCCC budget
and could have an impact on future increases in dues to members.
Future Corvette Owner Association is 25 years old! If you would like to sign your children or
grandchildren up for FCOA, there is one time $10.00 fee. At the age of 16, hopefully they will
become Youth Members of NCCC. We need to bring this younger generation into NCCC.
The 2016 NCCC Club Website Contest was opened on February 1, 2016 and at this point only 4
clubs have entered. The entry deadline is June 1, 2016 and I think our website is certainly up to
the task! It is easy to navigate and is full of information for our club members. Way to go Mike
Smosna, with a little help from his friends!
Sponsorship for NCCC for 2016 has started well as we welcome back many of our loyal sponsors
and add a few new ones. The following companies have committed to working with NCCC this
year: Michelin North America, Mid America Motorworks, Eckler’s, Goodyear Tire and Rubber
Company, Corvette Central, Corvette America, Zip Products, Novistretch, Paragon Corvette
Reproductions, Hagerty Insurance, Legacy Insurance, and Carlisle Events. New to NCCC are
Condon Skelly Insurance, T.O. Hass Tires, and the National Corvette Museum Insurance.
Hopefully, every member received the Eckler’s calendar for 2016. They are looking for pictures of
clubs and cars for next year’s edition. If you wish to send pictures please do so to Debbie
Lindsay, Director of Sponsorship by August 31, 2016. She can be contacted via the NCCC
website.
Michelin Drive and Compare will again be held at the convention this year in Omaha.
Registration will run from July 1 thru 15, 2016. This program gives the participant the ability to go
and drive one of Michelin’s cars with different brands of tires and see which one handles best.
Both Lee Douglas and I did it at last year’s convention and had a blast! Nothing like driving
someone’s car like you stole it!

Notes from the Gov
March 2016
There is a Discounts Page on the NCCC website. A new addition to that page is
Corvetteexhaustsystems.com. They offer exhaust systems for C5, C6 and 2014 later models. NCCC
members will receive a 15% discount on their products with the use of the code nccc20161 when
ordering.
NCCC will be participating in the following Corvette events this year and soon more details to
follow as to how you can be involved.
Bloomington Gold
Corvettes of Carlisle
Mid America Motorworks Funfest
I acquired several flyers of events that are going to be happening nationally. If you are interested
please contact me.
This might be my last “Notes from the GOV”. I thank you for allowing me to be Sunburst Corvette
Club’s governor for the last 2 plus years. Jo and I will still be members of Sunburst Corvette Club
and I still will be attending the Midwest Region meeting in St. Louis (Jo was elected secretary).
However, it is probably best if someone else can attend the Sunburst Corvette Club meeting and
report in person to you. If you happen to be traveling in this area and somehow manage to come
close to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, please stop and see us! We will be happy to see you! There
are some fantastic driving roads for Corvettes here!
Save the wave!

Tech Tips from Jim Downing
C6 (and C7?) Headlights
The factory navigation system in your C6 gets its map and other
information from a DVD disc that is inserted behind the Nav
screen. The information is not downloaded into Nav, if you remove
the DVD then the Nav stops working.
When the C6 was in production, GM produced a new disc with
updated maps and information every year. Price with tax and
shipping was about $220. But when the C6 production stopped in
2013, GM stopped making updated discs. Even with the 2013 disc,
our maps and information were now 3 years old, that’s as old as I
like to get. I was considering an aftermarket Nav system.
The factory C6 Nav system will project turn/distance information
onto the Heads Up Display (HUD) on your windshield in “Street”
mode. As you approach a turn, an arrow will appear telling you
which way you’ll turn, and the name of the street. There will also be
a countdown bar, when you get to 0 then you’re at the turn point.
Unfortunately, none of the aftermarket systems can connect with the
HUD, and you lose the arrow/countdown features if you replace the
factory Nav.
Fortunately, GM has just come out with an updated disc, 2016
version. You can order it online from GMnavdisc.com and the price
has come down slightly- now about $195 with tax and shipping.
Part #23286274. We have installed ours and it works well.
Now you have more choices.
