2016 U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
CordeValle, San Martin, Calif.
MEDIA NOTES
Tuesday, June 28
EXEMPTION – Julia Engstrom, Sweden
FIELD ADDITION – Kotone Hori, Japan
Julia Engstrom, 15, of Sweden, has earned a full exemption into the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open
Championship by winning the 2016 Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship at Dundonald Links in
Scotland. Engstrom, the youngest winner in the event’s 113-year history, defeated Dewi Weber of the
Netherlands with a par on the first extra hole.
Additionally, winners of LPGA co-sponsored events from the conclusion of the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open to
the start of the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open are exempt into the championship. As Lydia Ko, winner of last
week’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, is already exempt into the U.S. Women’s Open, Kotone Hori,
the first alternate from the Japan qualifying site, has been added to the championship field. Hori, a
professional, is competing in her first U.S. Women’s Open.
