Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending.

We are very happy to announce that the number of altar
servers at St. Mary Magdalen has greatly increased recently.
We now have 53 altar servers! This has enabled us to
schedule all the servers by putting them into four “teams”eighteen Mass groups- some serving once or twice a month.
Thank you to all our young parishioners who have enthusiastically answered the call to serve at the altar of God during
our sacred liturgies.

Christmas Child Gift Program
DECEMBER CALENDAR OF EVENTS
We have a few more ornaments in the office and also
in a basket in the vestibule of Church!
Needy children from our area will be receiving Christmas
gifts this year thanks to the generosity of Vermilion Parish
residents. Several churches in our area have agreed to participate in this Christmas project with our parish. If you are
participating in this program, please wrap the gift and tape
the ornament to the gift as its name tag. One ornament per
box please! (You may buy extra if you desire, however, you
must wrap all gifts in one box per ornament).
Please bring gifts to the St. Mary Magdalen parish office by
Wednesday, December 14th. We are also accepting monetary donations. These donations will be used to purchase
gifts in the event that an ornament and gift is not returned.
Sunday, December 11th ~ Youth Night
Ministries Building @ 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, December 17th ~ Cemetery CleanClean-Up Day
Held on the 3rd Saturday of every month @ 10:00 a.m.
Friends in Christ,
The Young Apostles have begun our fifth year as a youth group
here in St. Mary Magdalen parish and it is proving to be one of
our greatest. I am very happy to say that we had a total of fifty
youth from the parish in attendance for our kick off night on
August 28th of this year. The dedication of the many who continue to show up each week is truly a blessing and a revelation
of God’s hand at work here in our community. In addition to
attending the youth nights, they have also been hard at work
cleaning St. Paul Cemetery every third Saturday of the month.
As a group we attend different retreats and events put on by our
own Diocese and others throughout the State, one of these being Steubenville South. This conference is an amazing experience for the high school youth to attend during the summer with
between 2,000 –2,500 other teens their age from around the
country coming together to worship Our Lord in a spiritual
weekend that they will never forget. As touching and unforgettable as Steubenville may be, it comes at a price. This is where I
am seeking your help. Some of you may recall our fundraisers
that we host during the year for this event. These fundraisers in
which you have always so generously donated to are to help
provide motel rooms and t-shirts for the attendees. The truth is,
however, sometimes families are unable to provide the $145.00
payment for a teen to attend the conference. This is an experience that no teen should have to miss out on because of monetary issues. As some of you may know, we do not have a consistent income for the youth group throughout the year. With these
donations we can insure that we would have money stored
away to help cover the cost for a teen who may be unable to
attend due to this issue or if we have another incident as we did
this past year with our bus breaking down two days before we
left. Praise God for blessing us with a driver who had his own
bus and graciously accepted the task of driving our group to
Alexandria on such short notice. If any amount is left over from
the donations it will be deposited into an account especially for
the Young Apostles to help assist with other activities and
events that we partake in such as youth nights and socials. Enclosed in your bulletin you will find an envelope for your donation if you so choose to give. Thank you from the bottom of my
heart for all of your continued prayer and support for the youth
here at St. Mary Magdalen. We are forever grateful and hope to
serve you in every way possible for many years to come. God
Bless.

Youth Director

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
A voice of one crying out in the desert: “Prepare the way of
the Lord, make straight his paths.” Mk 1:1-8
The comment we often hear when someone is acting
silly or goofy is “Oh, that is just George (or whatever the person’s name) being George.” We can wonder what Elizabeth or
Zachariah said when people told them that their son John was
living in the desert, wearing a camelhair shirt and leather belt
(expensive belts were braided or made of fine linen) and eating
locust and wild honey. Did they say, “Oh, that’s just John being
John.” If so, they were right. John was being who and what
God created him to be– a messenger sent by God to prepare the
way of the Lord by making straight his path and calling people
to repent for their sins. John had accepted his role and mission
in life. He knew he was not the Messiah but that he was to prepare the way for the Messiah. He may have dressed a little
strange and eaten an unusual diet, but he did what God created
him to do. Are we doing what God created us to do? Are we
preparing the way for the Lord, at least the way for the Lord to
come into our heart?

Names of the Centennial Club to be placed in the Time Capsule!
Thank you to all who have given to the Centennial Club on the 100th Anniversary of St. Mary Magdalen Church.
Because of the overwhelmingly positive response, we have decided to extend the Centennial Club until December
31, 2011. The names of members of the Centennial Club will also be included in the Time Capsule. It is not too
late if you would still like to become a part of this historic occasion. The additional Centennial Club donations,
along with pew donations and other gifts to the Capital Campaign will help to cover the additional expenses such
as interest on the loan, unfulfilled pledges, plaques and donor markers. Special Centennial Club envelopes are
available in the parish office and at the doors of the Church.
26 pew memorials are still
available for a donation of $1,800
Donor plaques are available! This opportunity will
remain open until all pews are memorialized.
