Recently, an elderly neighbor of St. Peter
Catholic Church reported that someone attending
Mass blocked her driveway preventing her from
returning to her home. With respect to our
neighbors, I am asking all who attend Mass or
parish and school events, to please be mindful not
to block driveways or park in any way that would
cause an inconvenience or be disrespectful to our
neighbors’ property. Thank you for your cooperation and help with this matter.

Minute of Mercy
The history of the Church is full of many martyred Catholic saints, who received recognition for great deeds or meritorious conduct. Many lost their lives in defense of the faith, while others were themselves the mothers of important saints. Many were also
honored for their contributions to the Church and their community.
One such saint we are focusing on this week is St. Maximilian Kolbe. According to Fr. Michael Gaitley, “one great passion of
his life was to come to know the mystery of Mary.” St. Maximilian is known as the Apostle of Consecration to Mary. Much of his
life was strongly influenced by a vision he had of the Virgin Mary when he was 12.
He became a Polish Franciscan Friar, and in 1941, was arrested by the German Gestapo and eventually transferred to the German death camp of Auschwitz. Here, he volunteered to die in the place of a stranger, thereby securing his martyrdom. He was
canonized a saint on October 10, 1982.
Please pick up a flyer on the Year of Mercy table to learn a great deal more about this amazing saint!
Mercy in Action
This week’s Mercy in Action is for all of St. Peter Parish to pray the St. Michael Prayer for persecuted Christians at home and
throughout the world. The prayer can be found in the bulletin, on the Year of Mercy table, and on the St. Peter Parish App.

"Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible"
by Jeff Cavins and Sarah Christmyer
An Engaging Journey
Through the Bible
This eight-part study provides the easiest way to
understand the Bible.
“Unlocking the Mystery of
the Bible” makes the complex simple. It helps you uncover the story woven throughout Scripture so that
you can get the “big picture” of the Bible and understand what it is all about. The Bible is a story about
the Father’s unfailing love for you - a love that you
are now called to share with others.
You will:
◦ Make sense of the Bible and see how it relates to
your everyday life
◦ Discover the remarkable connections between the
Old and New Testaments
◦ See how the sacraments, the Church and our entire
Catholic Faith is rooted in Scripture.
Meeting Dates:
Thursdays : June 9th- July 28th from 12:30-2:00 p.m.
In the Upper Room, 318 S. Jefferson Ave.
Registration/Materials fee: $25
For more information or to register please visit us

Our Lady of Knock Shrine
A Roman Catholic pilgrimage site and National Shrine in the village of Knock, County Mayo, Ireland,
where observers stated that there was an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, Saint John
the Evangelist, angels, and Jesus Christ (the Lamb of God) in 1879. A number of cures and favors are associated with visitors to Our Lady of Knock’s Shrine and those who claim to have been cured here still
leave crutches and sticks at the spot where the apparition is believed to have occurred.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot
be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushelbasket, it is set on a lamp stand, where it gives light to all in the

April 17:
Fourth Sunday of Easter
Today, we celebrate “Good Shepherd Sunday” where we reflect on Jesus’ care and
love of us.
Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul will show that you are indeed the disciple of Jesus,
the Good Shepherd, as it will bring your love to those
who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.

ST PETER PARISH
IN YOUR WILL
A Stewardship Moment
Fourth Sunday of Easter • April 17, 2016
In today’s Gospel reading Jesus is quite emphatic: “My
sheep hear my voice…” Those who exercise good stewardship of their prayer lives realize that hearing or listening is fundamental to prayer. Prayer is a personal encounter with the Lord and requires dialogue. Some people never learn the art of listening. When we enter into a
dialogue with someone we love we speak and we listen.
Otherwise it cannot be a dialogue. This week let’s think
about how we pray. Do we do all the talking and then get
up and do something else? Or do we sit quietly, waiting
for God’s voice to enter our hearts?
.
Would you like to donate
flowers to grace our sanctuary
or to be placed at the foot of
the statue of Our Blessed
Mother?
Floral arrangements may be donated in memory of
a loved one or for a special intention. Please call the
rectory for more information. 985.892.2422

God’s Mercy!

Quotes from Principal Michael Kraus’ weekly newsletter: April 6, 2016
Dear St. Peter Families,
This week we recognize and celebrate many student achievements through Honor Roll and Virtue
Awards. The Catechism states, “A virtue is an habitual and firm disposition to do the good. It
allows the person not only to perform good acts, but to give the best of himself. The virtuous person tends toward the good with all his sensory and spiritual powers; he pursues the good and
chooses it in concrete actions.” As teachers and parents, we love recognizing our children for their accomplishments,
and I would like to extend sincere congratulations to all our students who received Honor Roll or Bosco Awards.
Awards are an opportunity that God reminds us of the gifts that He has given us. All of our children at St. Peter have
been given tremendous gifts, but most importantly they have been given the gift of being loved by their God. We feel
blessed to be a part of their formation.
As you are aware, we are administering ACT Aspire tests to 3rd through 7th grade students over these next two
weeks. It is very important that students are well rested and fed during testing. It is also very important that they are
here for testing. If at all possible, please refrain from checkouts during their scheduled testing times, as we want our
children to do their best. I continue to feel very blessed to be a part of our school community.
God alone,
Michael Kraus
