Newsletter - Linen and Threads
Newsletter
28th December 2015
Bren and I have recently returned from our holiday in the UK and France
and we had the best holiday we have ever had. It was a wonderful way to
celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary.
Well its almost the end of another year and we have some exciting news to
close off the year. Sandra, a friend from right here in Katoomba, and
Nicola, a friend with an amazing love of samplers who lives in Cornwall
UK, have started a design company “Hands Across the Sea Samplers”. They
have just released their first sampler “Miss Mary Ann Bournes 1791”.

This amazing sampler is the first to be reproduced from Nicola’s museum
quality collection of antique samplers.
We are excited to be one of only 6 Needlework Stores selected World Wide to
sell this exquisite collectors item.
Not your ordinary reproduction
pattern, this is a work of art in book format for you to treasure.
Nicola and Sandra describe this sampler as “an unusual and charming
English Sampler stitched during the reign of George III, depicting a
large central motif of a bee skep surrounded by flowers, bees, butterflies
and two large doves set within leafy arbours together with a cottage in
a pastoral scene. All are contained within a stunning border with
several varieties of flowers including roses and carnations.”
This designs should arrive in the next week and Bren is already gearing
up to stitch it.
We have had a number of other new arrivals as well, including:

New Programs
Gingerbread Village from Country Cottage Needleworks
Country Cottage Needleworks are releasing part
one of their new Gingerbread Village in October
2015. This new series consists of 11 designs that
will be released consecutively for 11 months. The
first design, Gingerbread Train, is larger than the
rest (stitch count of 110w x 60h). The remaining 10
designs are all the same size (stitch count 55w x
60h). If the entire design is stitched together it
has a total stitch count of 220w x 184h.
The fabric used for the models is Wichelt’s 32 count Lambswool Linen. The
designs also use the same threads throughout. If all of the designs are
stitched, a total of these many skeins of floss will be needed: Classic
Colorworks’ Bean Sprout (2) and Ribbon Red (2). Weeks’ Hazelnut (3) and Pecan
(5). DMC White (4), 3371 (1), 469 (1), and 741 (1).
There is a JABCO button used in each design. We will be including this
button with each chart. Keep in mind that the buttons were chosen to fit
with the 32 count fabric, so if you choose a different fabric count they
may not fit the design as well.
The Gingerbread Village series will look adorable finished separately
as cubes, stand up flat folds, ornaments, etc. If you choose to stitch the
entire series together as shown, the first design in the center will be
Gingerbread Train. Then we will be moving a block over to the left for
the next piece, and then continuing clockwise around the entire piece.
You can look at the rendering above for reference. The blocks that are
next to each other horizontally are stitched right next to each other
with no spaces in between. There are two stitches however, in between the
rows vertically.
We will be including the button with each chart. If you signup for the
whole programme and also want the fabric and threads, they will be sent
with month one. So sign up now and get ready to start stitching.

Blackbird Designs - Garden Club
"Welcome to our Garden Club! You’re going to love
belonging to our little sewing circle. There are
no offices to fill, and no elections to hold. So you
will be able to sit back, stitch and enjoy yourself"
"Over the next 12 months, our Garden Club series
will reflect a cherished aspect of gardening. It
might be a lovely basket of flowers, bees buzzing
from flower to flower, or, like this month, an
abundant harvest of cherries. In any case, you
won’t have to worry about getting your hands
dirty!"
One pattern will be released each month for a
year. All 12 pieces are stitched on 32ct. linen and
each pattern can use a different colour of linen.
Each piece in the series is a 25cm square (including a framing allowance)
Alternatively the entire collection can be stitched on one piece of linen.
The ½ Metre piece of linen would be $55 and sent with the first chart or
the individual linen pieces would be $12.00 each month. The Gentle Art
thread pack for Basket Of Cherries would be $40 or the DMC alternative
would be $14.50. If you sign up for the monthly thread pack, the cost of
the threads each month will vary
depending on the design.
