CONFESSIONS
Saturday
8:30am to 10:00am
FROM THE DESK OF FATHER DAVIS:
The Archbishop has honored us greatly. With
the appointment of Father-to-be Daniel Martin,
as our new priest and Parochial Vicar, the Church
of the Little Flower will soon welcome to our
parish the newest and youngest priest in the
Archdiocese of Miami. He is eager to begin and
meet all of you. He stopped by for a visit last
week, and I gave him a tour of the church and the
rectory. He will be moving in during early days of
June, and is already scheduled to celebrate the
end-of-the-school-year Mass on Friday, June 7th.
It will be a pleasure to have him on board the
staff of our thriving parish and its many
ministries. He brings a very impressive skill set to
the service of the Church. I know you will be
impressed!
By the same token, it will be our great privilege
and responsibility to provide a wonderful
environment for a new priest as he begins his
presbyteral ministry among us, a ministry which
will surely impact tens of thousands of souls
throughout his lifetime. Even as we benefit from
his good service among us, may we also support,
love, and encourage him in the good work that he
will do here at Little Flower.
Father Martin’s ministry will be but a
reflection of the Lord’s command to us, which we
hear in today’s Gospel: “Love one another as I
have loved you.” Yes; we are all called to be
concerned about each other’s ultimate welfare,
and care for one another with Christian agape
(love, charity, and tender attention) as the Good
Shepherd would show towards the needs of the
members of His flock.
As we continue our journey through the Easter
Season, the Liturgy of the Word reminds us in
summary of the teachings of the Risen Christ,
who beckons us onward to live and act in ways
which glorify His name. Today’s message is, of
course, foundational. Our Lord demonstrated
sacrificial love. As such, those who follow Him
and proclaim Him must do likewise.
May we demonstrate with our lives the virtues
that truly make us the sheep of His flock!

THE WAYS OF LOVE
One can feel the energy of a young, growing
church in today’s first reading. For Paul and
Barnabas, it’s smooth sailing. For the sponsoring
church at Antioch, good news. The second
reading—a vision—offers a picture of triumph,
pure and simple. We might paraphrase God’s
direct words to read: “Don’t you see? I make all
things new!”
The young church remains new and young to
this day if and when it follows the command Jesus
lays down in the Gospel: “Love one another.” The
attitude and actions of love define the disciples and
identify them with their master. Every person on
this earth can be a disciple. For discipleship does
not depend on learning or sophistication or age or
arcane knowledge of secret cults. We are asked to
study and practice the ways of love, right here and
right now in the company of ordinary people.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Frequent fliers today have many ways to accrue
air miles, so one doesn’t always have to endure long
hours in cramped seats to earn free hours in
cramped seats. In St. Paul’s day, there were no such
perks, nor would there have been any legal system
for him to protest the shipwrecks he endured. He
had other rewards in mind. The churches that he
established in the catalogue of cities from today’s
first reading must have been very different from one
another. Language, culture, customs, religious
history, obstacles to community, social challenges,
the places where they met, their clothing, their
bread and wine, all distinct, particular to the area.
There were social customs as well: in a Christian
household, the only place where a slave would be
able to stand legally as an equal with the master
would be at the table of the Lord, because at that
table a new world of reconciliation was imaged.
While Paul revered local customs, he was relentless
about challenging the ways that people lived their
Christian lives and how their worship reflected
them. It is much the same today, as a global Catholic
Church seeks to respect local customs and culture,
allowing for differences in many things, yet always
giving expression to the underlying presence of
Christ, who binds us all together into his body.

A NEW CATERER FOR COMBER HALL
FATHER PACIOREK TO RECEIVE
NEW ASSIGNMENT
Archbishop Wenski has made many
announcements this week regarding
priest assignments. Ten new pastors
were named, four newly ordained
were given their placements, and
another dozen priests were informed
of new pastoral assignments. Our own Father Piotr
Paciorek has been given a new assignment as
Parochial Vicar at Saint Patrick’s Church in Miami
Beach. Father will be with us until May 12th, when
he will take some well-deserved vacation time, as
well as begin the move to the beach. As a sign of
your appreciation for his 17 months of service
among us, we will be having a farewell gathering
immediately following the 9:00am Mass on
Sunday, May 12th. More details to follow.
JOIN US ON THE BUS TO THE
ORDINATION CEREMONY
With the appointment of Father-to
-be Daniel Martin, as our new
Parochial Vicar, many of us have
thought it would be nice to have a
contingent of parishioners from
Little Flower to go over to the Cathedral and attend
his ordination on Saturday, May 11th at 10am. For the
convenience of transport, and not having to deal with
parking issues and security, it might be fun to travel
as a group on a chartered bus. If you would like to
join us as we go to the Cathedral for the ordination of
our new priest, call the Development Office to get
your name on the list. The price is $12 per person.
The first 57 callers can be part of the special bus
transportation arrangement. Hope you can join us for
this spectacular event in the life of our parish.
We are happy to announce
that the parish has selected a
new catering company to
provide service for the events
in Comber Hall beginning on
August 1st. “A Joy Wallace
Catering” is the current
caterer for Vizcaya and other upscale venues and
will now be in charge of the catering services for
all weddings and special events at Comber Hall.
For more information and scheduling, call the
parish office.
DESSERT WITH FATHER DAVIS
A social event called, “Dessert with
Father Davis,” is planned for
Monday, June 3rd at 7:30pm at the
rectory house. You bring the dessert;
Father will provide the coffee and
beverages. It will be an opportunity to
have a casual chat with the pastor about a wide
range of topics. Mainly, it’s an opportunity for
community building and story-telling. We can
only accommodate eleven people around the
table. If interested, please call Maria Elena
Chialastri at the parish office to get your name on
the list: 305-446-9950, ext.306.
CALLING ALL GRAPHIC DESIGNERS/ARTISTS!
It’s no secret that COTLF is blessed with many
talented parishioners. If you are a graphic designer/
artist, we’ve got a fun project for your consideration!
We are interested in designing a new Seal/Coat of
Arms for the Church. If you are interested in
submitting a potential logo design, please contact
Jorge Santibáñez in the Parish Office with your idea.
CHURCH HAPPENINGS
SAFE ENVIRONMENT REMINDERS: LOCAL COORDINATORS
This year, in an effort to make compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People
more accountable, each pastor in the archdiocese assigned a Local Coordinator for his parish and/or school.
The Local Coordinator is responsible for the compliance and record keeping of the Creating and Maintaining
Safe Environment Policy. (The policy can be accessed on our website at www.miamiarch.org under
Protecting God’s Children Ministry.) Among their duties, Local Coordinators will review the dates of
fingerprinting for employees and volunteers and review Virtus accounts. For employees and volunteers with
access to children or vulnerable adults, Virtus training is the live initial training session and completing the
monthly bulletins. The bulletins are a valuable way to keep everyone informed on how best to protect the
most vulnerable among us, with the most current information from world renowned experts in the field.
Look for our annual Safe Environment Report in the April 21st addition of the Florida Catholic.
To report suspected abuse contact the Department of Children and Families abuse hotline at:
1-800-96ABUSE or 1-800-962-2873
or the Archdiocesan hotline at:

STRENGTHEN THE CHURCH AT HOME
FORTALECER LA IGLESIA EN CASA
Many dioceses right here in the United States do not
have enough priests and trained lay ministers to serve their
parishes. These dioceses are known as home missions. The
Catholic Home Missions Appeal supports these dioceses by
funding essential ministries, including seminary education
and lay ministry training. Please be generous in this Appeal
and help strengthen the Church at home.
ATTENTION WIDOWS AND WIDOWERS

who have been widowed and are seeking to renew hope and joy in their lives.

“TO BE CATHOLIC IS TO BE JOYFUL!”
