2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games - Steinbach
August 7 – 13, 2016
The Power Smart Manitoba Games is the Province’s largest ongoing multi-sport program. Close to
1,800 athletes between the ages of 10-17 come from all regions across Manitoba to compete in 11
different sports in this week-long event. In addition, the Coaches, Managers and Athletes’ families will
also descend on our community.
Steinbach will enjoy a multitude of upgrades, the largest being over $325,000 which will be spent on
facilities, including the construction of a 6 lane asphalt track at the Stonybrook Middle School. This
will replace the existing facility, something Steinbach needs.
This event does come with a price tag of close to 1 million dollars which is largely made up of
fundraising/sponsorship dollars. Becoming a Friend of the Games, allows your business to be part of

History
The first province-wide Manitoba Games was held in Winnipeg in December 1974 as part of the city’s

Winter Games participants. Neepawa was chosen to host the 1976 Manitoba Summer Games and
the 1978 Manitoba Winter Games were held in Dauphin. After a ten year hiatus, the Manitoba Games
Program was reinstated in 1986.
