The Horticulture and Garden Centre Operations program
prepares students to work as horticulturists for public or
private organizations that may lead to a job in:
• Park management, maintaining green spaces, gardens and golf
courses, propagating plants as well as installing flower beds, mass
plantings, mosaics, containers and other floral displays. This work also
consists of preparing soils; seeding, planting, preparing and applying
plant protection products.
• This course may also lead you to work with horticultural consulting firms
or in specialized garden centres. In the retail industry, it involves working
as sales consultants; maintaining outdoor and indoor plants; monitoring
and maintaining designated sales areas (annuals, perennials, shrubs,
etc.); selling horticultural products or referring customers to specialists;
and participating in general retail operations, such as inventory control,
sales monitoring and customer needs analysis.

• Principles of botany
• Principles of soils, amendments
and fertilizer use
• Interior plants, edible and
ornamental plants
• Propagation, production and
growing of plants
• Seasonal maintenance of plants
and gardens
