.Winter Wishes 2014
The Winter Wishes program is in its LAST WEEK and we need YOUR help to make
these Winter Wishes come true!
Over the next 2 days (by Dec 12th), we are still collecting monetary donations for gift
cards and food donations for food boxes to help out families in our Stevens community
who need assistance during the holidays.
Beautifully decorated envelopes will be hanging from the board near the main entry
doors for you to enclose a donation and deliver it to the front office.
Checks should be made out to “Stevens PTA”, noting “Winter Wishes” in the
memo line. Food donations can be placed in the Tutu’s Pantry bins in front of the main
office. Thank you so much for supporting this program and the Stevens families that
need your help this holiday season!!
For more information, please contact:
Lori Bugaj at [email protected],
Ms. Snowden at [email protected], or
Ms. Kamila at [email protected].
After School Classes
This is the last week for after school classes and
tutoring. The next session will start in January.
Advanced Learning Testing
Many students in grades 2-8 will be offered the opportunity to test on Saturdays at
the John Stanford Center due to space limitations at school sites. Students in
Kindergarten and first grade will in most cases be tested at their school during
regular hours, as will all students who cannot participate in Saturday testing.
All students whose applications were sent by the October 2 deadline will be
scheduled for testing. Please be patient. Testing takes place throughout
November, December, and January.
Parents will be notified by phone or email prior to testing.

Kids Club's News
Snow Policy & Early School Closure:
Dear Kids Club Families,
If Seattle Public Schools are closed due to snow or severe weather, Kids’ Club will be closed. If Seattle
Public School is running on a late A.M. schedule, Kids’ Club will be closed for the A. M. session. Kids’ Club
will comply with closure information that is posted to the local news stations. If you have any questions
regarding closures, call Kids’ Club at (206)-523-6351. Please call before you come to ensure that we are
open.
In the event of an unscheduled early school closure (due to sever incoming storm or earthquake, for
example); Kids’ Club will notify all parents that they need to pick up their child immediately after
school. In the event that a parent cannot make it, the emergency contact will be notified. A staff member
will stay at Kids’ Club until all children have been safely picked up.
Kids Club 20152015-2016 Kindergarten Enrollment: Starting January 5th, Kids Club will be accepting
Kindergarten enrollment for the 2015-2016 school year. If you have any questions please contact Katie
([email protected]) or Amy ([email protected]).
Sincerely,
Amy & Katie
TREE SALE SUCCESS
Well another successful Tree Sale has come and gone. Thanks to the efforts of "Team Tree" - Sarah Flotard, Boyd
Pickrell, Nash Murray, Molly Wyman, Scott Schepman and Missy Zumwalt - we raised $17,000 for the PTA
coffers! None of this could have happened without our amazing volunteers. So, if you built a tree rack, cut some garland,
sold a tree, wielded a chainsaw, tied a tree to a car, baked some treats, created a craft or helped in any other way, THANK
YOU!! We took a chance on a new tree vendor this year and were thrilled with the quality of all the trees!
A few specific shout-outs:
Boyd Pickerell for the elegantly designed and immensely stable new tree racks. They safely showcased all the trees
beautifully and were a snap to erect and take down. This was a huge project and the tree racks will be used for years to
come.
• Scott Schepman and Sean McCrory for making all the deliveries!!!!
• All the kiddos who either helped staff the craft and bake sale tables or spent all day Saturday on the playground,
allowing their parents to volunteer.
• Molly Wyman for running BOTH the craft table and the Tutu's Pantry bake sale. The bake sale netted $600 for the
Pantry!
• Megan Boyce and Nash Murray for climbing under all the unsold trees to get us an accurate count of what did not sell
- AND
The tree lot at John and 17th for buying all our unsold trees. This is the 4th year they have done this!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST TAKES the CAKE!
The Stevens PTA thanks the sponsors, volunteers and other participants who did so much on and before Saturday,
December 6, 2014 to make the 2014 Annual Pancake Breakfast a success attended by some 600 people!
Our sponsors provided hundreds of dollars of goods and services so that the PTA could direct proceeds toward
classroom needs as well as making tickets available to families who might not otherwise be able to enjoy the
meal!
Please consider supporting the organizations that support Stevens:
Starbucks Coffee, especially the 328 15th Ave. East store
Jamjuree Thai Restaurant, 509 15th Ave East (where we
pre-cooked 1,000 latkes)
Isernio’s Sausage
Charlie’s Produce
Grocery Outlet in Madrona
Central Coop
Cash’n’Carry
QFC on 15th Ave. East
Krusteaz pancake mix
In addition, Tully’s (19th & Aloha store), the Madison Street International House of Pancakes, the Stevens
Green Team and the PTA leadership deserve our special thanks.
The event could not happen without the amazing efforts by volunteer pancake flippers, latke fryers, sausage
servers and so many more specially talented members of our community, including (in alphabetical order):
Nancy Allan, Principal Kelley Archer, Assistant Principal Chad Barnes, Beth Bisignano, Linda Casey, Kristen Cole, Sheldon
Cooper, Leonard Dain, Michelle Dawahare, Sarah Edwards, Sara Fahey, Anna Finkenzeller,
Melissa Ford Shah, Barak Gaster, P.E. Teacher Susan Goubert, Anne Landfield Greig, Grant Greig, Nancy
Hartunian, Johanna Hulick, Kari Huus, Alexa Ingram-Cauchi, Louisa Jenkins, Kathleen Judd, Jill Kobayashi, Tim and Maia
Laverty, Erik Levy, Emily Lieberman, Jessica Ludders, Siri Miller, P.E. Teacher Eric Peters, Janey
Petty, Olivia Pi-Sunyer, Kim Reppart, Richard Rhoda, Nik Rungruengwatanachai, Cyra Schutten, Tina

Apologies if we have left out anyone, including students and others who spontaneously lent a hand.
Extra special thanks to:
• Stevens 4th-grader Patrick Rungruengwatanachai and his parents, Rita and Nik, who offered Jamjuree for our latke
preparation
• Barbara Chin (whose behind-the-scenes contributions to Stevens include lots of graphics work, such as our signage and
the great posters).
• Stevens’ fantastic Custodial Engineer Kieu Bui and wonderful Lunchroom Manager Jo-El Modeste.
• Music Teachers, Edd Key and Lori Badruswamy, who led the rousing performances by Choir 5 and so many other
Stevens students.
• Sarah Flotard and Boyd Pickrell for collaborating with the Breakfast organizers while fearlessly leading our annual Tree
Sale.
• Missy Zumwalt for her amazing efforts on Tutu's Pantry.
• Kids Club, including Amy Hale, KC staff, and the students, who helped with
setup and tablecloth artwork.
Finally, a MILLION THANKS to Pancake Breakfast Co-Chairs Cliff
Meyer (5th and final year) and Erik Tanen (2nd year).
We are looking for one or two co-chairs to join Erik next year – contact him
at [email protected] to learn more about how rewarding it is to organize this
event.
And the last bit of happy news:
Because of everyone's purchases at the Usborne and More book fair, owner
Ronni Harrison will be presenting the Stevens Library with its choice of nearly
$1,500 of free books.
See you next year!
