Beijing
The capital city of the People’s Republic of China, Beijing (Peking) is a fast-growing, dynamic
metropolis that, while welcoming foreign businesses and visitors, maintains a firm grip on its rich
cultural heritage. Few cities in the world besides Beijing have served as the political and cultural centre
of an area as immense as China for so long. The city has been an integral part of China’s history for
centuries, and there is scarcely a major building of any age in Beijing that doesn't have at least some
national historical significance.
Tiananmen Square is huge open space surrounded on all sides by imposing official buildings. Apart from
being a popular gathering place for tourists and kite flyers, it is still often used for any big celebration
and for the government leaders to address the people.
The Palace Museum in the center of Beijing is historically and artistically one of the most
comprehensive museums in China, and uses as its foundation the Forbidden City, a palace of the Ming
and Qing dynasties (1368-1840), and their collection of treasures.
The Beijing National Stadium, also known as the bird's nest will be the main track and field stadium for
the 2008 Summer Olympics and will be host to the Opening and Closing ceremonies. The stadium was
conceived as a large collective vessel, which makes a distinctive and unmistakable impression both from
a distance and when seen from up close.

The National Aquatics Centre, also known as 'The Water Cube', is one of the most dramatic and exciting
venues to host sporting events for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The building's structural design is
based on the natural formation of soap bubbles
The Temple of Heaven covers an area of 273 hectares. It was built in 1420. Emperors of the Ming and
Qing dynasties visited the Temple of Heaven to worship heaven and pray for an abundant harvest. The
main structures in the Temple of Heaven are the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest the imperial Vault of
Heaven the Echo Wall and the Circular Mound Altar.
Mutianyu Great Wall enjoys a long history and is part of the glorious culture of China. The Great Wall
winds 1.4 miles through lofty mountains and high ridges, many sections of which are made of granite.
The unique structure makes the wall almost indestructible.

Peking Duck, or Peking Roast Duck is a famous duck dish from Beijing that has been prepared since the
imperial era, and is now considered one of China's national foods. The dish is prized for the thin, crispy
skin, with authentic versions of the dish serving mostly the skin and little meat, sliced in front of the
diners by the cook. Ducks bred specially for the dish are slaughtered after 65 days and seasoned before
being roasted in a closed or hung oven. The meat is often eaten with pancakes, spring onions, and hoisin
sauce or sweet bean sauce. The two most notable restaurants in Beijing which serve this delicacy are
Quanjude and Bianyifang, two centuries-old establishments which have become household names.

Hot pot, less commonly Chinese fondue or steamboat, refers to several East Asian varieties of stew,
consisting of a simmering metal pot of stock at the center of the dining table. While the hot pot is kept
simmering, ingredients are placed into the pot and are cooked at the table. Typical hot pot dishes include
thinly sliced meat, leafy vegetables, mushrooms, wontons, egg dumplings, and seafood. The cooked
food is usually eaten with a dipping sauce. In many areas, hot pot meals are often eaten in the winter.
Xi’an
The Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses are the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th
century. Work is ongoing at this site, which is around 1.5 kilometers east of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's
Mausoleum, Lintong County, Shaanxi Province. It is a sight not to be missed by any visitor to China.
Huaqing Hot Spring is famed for both its dainty spring scenery and the romantic love story of Emperor
Xuanzong (685-762) and his concubine Yang Guifei in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Its long history and
location among the wonderful landscapes of Xian should entice any visitor to visit and bathe in this hot
spring

Shanghai Bund is Shanghai's stately street of old colonial-era buildings and the first port of call for
many visitors. Its most famous and attractive sight is a "museum of international architecture" with the
various buildings of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism
and the Renaissance, making the picturesque Bund more European than Chinese in character.
The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is the world's third tallest TV and radio tower. Surrounded by the Yangpu
Bridge in the northeast and the Nanpu Bridge in the southwest, the tower creates a picture of 'twin
dragons playing with pearls'. The entire scene is a photographic jewel that excites the imagination and
attracts thousands of visitors year-round.
The City God Temple or Chenghuang Miao of Shanghai forms the core of the old city of Shanghai,
China. Today the "City God Temple" not only refers to the large temple complex, but also the traditional
district of commerce in the city, surrounding the temple. There are over a hundred stores and shops in
this area, and most of these store buildings are nearly a century old. The temple connects to the Yuyuan
Garden, another landmark of the old city.

(600 hectares) and includes some of Hangzhou's most famous historic and scenic places. Adjacent to the
lake is a scenic area covering over 50 square kilometers. The area includes historical pagodas, cultural

Hongkong
(Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China)
Rumors of Hong Kong’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. More than 10 years after its handover
from Britain to China, this entrepreneurial, irrepressible and singular trading city is booming again.
After plagues real, financial and political, normal service has resumed. This tiny territory is punching
well above its size and weight once more, only these days with a self-confidence it never had under its
former masters. Hong Kong has never been busier. Nor has it ever felt as comfortable with its status, as a
part once again of its original motherland but separate, too, largely governing its own affairs and much
better off for it. Almost 7 million people call a territory of 1100 sq km home, squeezing onto only 10%

of the available land space. A flood of mainland and international visitors, meanwhile, crowds in to see
what all the fuss is about. Multitudes seek standing or sitting room here, bringing with them smog, odour,
clutter and clatter.
There's a reason why The Peak is one of the most popular attractions in Hong Kong: It is absolutely
incredible! Looking down from The Peak you'll be amazed by the spectacular view of the surrounding
city skyline, the world-famous Victoria Harbour and Kowloon, towering skyscrapers and peaceful green
hillsides. Getting there is an unforgettable trip. There's nothing in the world like the Peak Tram. Pulled
by steel cables, the tram climbs 373 metres (about 1,200 feet). It's so steep that the buildings you pass
look like they're leaning at a 45°angle! Whether you're going up or coming down, you'll love this trip.
Victoria Harbour is one of Hong Kong's greatest assets, a jewel that people marvel at, no matter how
many times they visit the city. People come from all over the world to see and admire it. Travel up to
The Peak or visit the Avenue of Stars along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade for spectacular harbour views
and to catch the magnificent A Symphony of Lights, featuring more than 40 Hong Kong's skyscrapers in
a stunning multimedia extravaganza.
