Message from the Principal:
Dear Parents/Guardians,
You will find in this issue, information regarding summer school offerings at Roosevelt/Kaleidoscope. Please consider a summer school class or two to help keep
your child to stay engaged academically over the summer. Many of the summer
school courses are utilizing various technologies and will be very exciting for the
students.
The third quarter progress reports should be brought home, on March 1, 2012.
Please take the time to review your child's progress with them. Continued support and encouragement from you will help them do well in school. Also included
in the envelope with the progress report, will be your child’s results from the state
testing, Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam (WKCE).
Late winter Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 1,
2012, from 4:00-6:15 p.m. Because of the limited time for late winter conferences, we do not schedule individual conferences. Parents are encouraged to
come and speak to teachers they would like to see. When you arrive, begin by
the school office and pick up a map of where all the staff are located. Teachers
that are less than full-time may not be here the entire evening. Early next week
an email will be sent out with the listing of our traveling staff and the time they will
be available for conferences. We will also have a list for your convenience, next
Thursday.

Aramark Food Service is introducing a brand new service to students in early
March. In their efforts to continue to bring more healthy and fresh options to the
meal program, they are launching a Made-To-Order Deli Bar to our lunch service.
Students will be able to choose what they would like on their sandwiches. They
will have a variety of bread, meat, and vegetable choices along with several gourmet dressings. Aramark is excited to bring this new concept to our students.
With spring just around the corner, it means we have survived winter and the flu
season with our hectic schedule. As the weather warms, the clothing kids wear to
school changes. Please help us by making sure clothes are appropriate for
school. Clothes that are not appropriate are light fabrics that are see-through and
clothing that reveals too much skin. Shorts, skirts, and dresses that may be too
short can cause a dilemma, because “what is to short?” A good general rule of
thumb to determine if the clothing is appropriate is to check the bottom edge of
the clothing to see if it goes past the tips of the student’s fingers when their arms/
hands are placed straight down along their side. We greatly appreciate your help
with this! I am looking forward to a terrific spring with our students and staff.

SUMMER SCHOOL DATES AND REGISTRATION
Summer school dates are June 18th – July 20th, with no classes from July 2nd – 6th. Classes run from 8:45-11:45, MondayFriday. In addition, Aramark will be providing breakfast from 8:00-8:45 and lunch from 11:45-12:30, June 13-July 1 and
July 11-15. Breakfast and lunch are free of charge to all students age 18 and under, even if they currently attend a school
other than Roosevelt/Kaleidoscope. You do not need to sign up for this program – just show up for a tasty, nutritious meal!
Registration forms were sent home with students in mid- to late February. Extra copies will be available in the RMS/KA
office, and also on the AASD summer school website.
You can register in-person at Roosevelt/Kaleidoscope in the main lobby on Thursday, March 8th from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
and on Tuesday, March 13th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. After March 8th, registration forms can also be handed in at the RMS/
KA office. Classes do fill up quickly, so please don’t delay!
Please take advantage of these fantastic summer opportunities to learn new skills, practice your knowledge, make new
friends, or stay physically active! After all, why would anyone want to lay around and watch TV when we have summer

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that we will be hosting a Buy One, Get One Scholastic Book
Fair from April 23-27.
Research shows that students who read during the summer do not have a decline in achievement,
so stock up with half-priced books.

INFORMATIONAL PARENT MEETING
Parents of all incoming freshmen at Appleton North High School are invited to an informational meeting on Monday, March 5th, from 6:30-8:00
p.m. The meeting will be held in the Large Group Instruction Room
(1306) and the LMC. Watch for signs. North staff members will provide
an overview of the many opportunities and programs available. Transition programs for incoming students, our school improvement
process, updates on current issues, and guidance/career services opportunities are also explained. Tours will also be provided. Many students attend with their parents.

This class will focus on performance skills. At the end of summer school, participants will perform a play in conjunction with
the Dance and Backstage Crew classes.
Volleyball $5.00
Volleyball is an excellent activity for coeducational play in which social skills, sportsmanship, cooperation and team play can
easily be developed. Whether you are trying out for your school team or just want to meet new friends-this course will meet
your needs. Learn and practice skills; participate in friendly competition, and put your skills into game action FUN!
WebTech $5.00
Create your own web pages using a great web design tool-Microsoft FrontPage. In this class students will learn how to create a web page, add photos, animated graphics, sounds, tables and more. Students may choose to make a site about themselves, their hobby, or create a page that will be useful to their school.

Do you want to increase or tone muscle, lost weight or learn proper eating habits for a healthy lifestyle? This class will provide you with the
knowledge to live a healthy lifestyle through cardiovascular conditioning, strength training and nutritional diet. This class will teach proper
techniques with emphasis on improved cardiovascular conditioning, body toning and a better understanding of physical fitness and wellness.
Workout and diet plans can be individualized for each student. Students can set personal goals and track their progress with the help of the
instructors. This class is for the beginner, intermediate or advanced male or female student. Sign up on the first day of attendance at the site
you plan to attend.
