We will practice the social responsibility
of global automobile industry
to make a world
in with everybody is happy.
CEO message
Despite the slow growth due to the global economic down turn, Hyundai Motor Company has posted
excellent results at home and abroad with strong brand competitiveness and premium quality. These
achievements are the result of efforts by joined determinations of staffs and employees to become the
best automobile company and only possible with continued interest and support of all stakeholders
including customers. To repay the care of stakeholders and to fulfill the role of corporate citizen, Hyundai
is practicing a variety of social contributing activities in workplaces at home and abroad.
Major social contributing activities Hyundai is practicing are Four Moves: Easy Move(mobility access
for the transportation needy), Safe Move(Traffic Safety), Green Move(Restoration of nature) and Happy
Move(volunteering activities). Particularly in 2012, Hyundai had been committed to establish a safe and
enjoyable traffic culture everywhere in the world by introducing a variety of original programs for the safe
transportation.
As a prime example, an animation <Traffic safety with Poli>was produced using the popular character,
Robocar Poli with the support of Hyundai so that children could learn the traffic safety with fun. It was
highly appraised because it is not just an education or campaign but it is an attempt of social contribution
and cultural content convergence. It was also very meaningful in a way that a platform is now in place for
an excellent domestic animation to enter the global market.
Global campaigns such as Looking for three leaf clovers to help children who lost parents in traffic
accidents, Blue Santa campaign to give heartwarming memories to underprivileged neighbors, White
Band campaign to eradicate poverty, and Blood donation campaign to save precious lives will not stop
as one time event but will be continued with participations from Hyundai workplaces all over the world.
Efforts to realistically contribute to the development of local communities continue with new programs
reflecting the local environment and situation such as establishing of Hyundai·KOICA Dream Center to
create jobs for youth in Ghana and educational equipment support for the countries in Asia. Volunteering
activities by staffs, employees, their families and university students are carried out not only at home but
also abroad to share hopes with local communities and to dream a world where everyone can coexist.
Hyundai will upgrade the existing social contribution systems and strengthen the communication with
global CSR networks to achieve more effective and sustainable social contributions this year. Hyundai
is striving to become an exemplary corporate citizen to contribute to the happiness of the people even
in difficult times by strengthening the children's traffic safety, guiding future and dream of young people
and creating more jobs for the underprivileged.
Hyundai is trying to relay large and small fairy tale for hope happened last year at home and abroad
through the ‘2012 Social Contribution Activities White Papers’. <Fairy tale for hope> where the voices
of various stakeholders were heartwarmingly illustrated, has been published so that more will be able to
understand and relate to the social contributing activities of Hyundai. I would like it very much if the white
papers can be an opportunity to think and communicate together about ‘Moving The World Together’.
Hyundai will be a company trusted by customers and beloved by the community and practice the social
responsibility as a global corporate citizen. ‘Moving The World Together’ with Hyundai is more beautiful
and happier place. Thank you.

We
create and share
sustainable hopes.
Hyundai Motors has gladly been on the path of hope to live and share
with the neighbors from all over the world. We have been in search of
ones in need to comfort them, to foster courage and hopes, and to work
hard for them, in hopes of making the brighter and healthier world.
Hyundai Motors is moving into a new phase of sharing with
more sustainable measures. We will support the growth of
social enterprises and will provide vocational educations to
help young people to find jobs.
We will also help the underprivileged members of the society to be
economically independent. We will turn a lake turned into a barren
desert into a green meadow. It is an effort to start a sustainable
virtuous cycle where the sharing will foster more hopes.
Hyundai Motors is moving into a new phase of the path of hope once
again to create the bigger happiness all around.
I can start
to live
a happy life now.
Misuk is striding happily every morning heading to her work.
She had been widowed for a few years now.
Since her beloved husband had passed away, she had grieved for so
long in shocking sadness that her heart had turned hard.
But she had to pick herself up for her children.
When she was afraid since there were not much for
a middle aged housewife to do, ̒Easy Life̓,
a social enterprise who offers welfare services to the
underprivileged, had reached out to her.
Misuk had been born again as an able and willing head of the
household and member of the society on the very first day of her job
as a nursing assistant after completing the vocational education.
Misuk is working hard even till this day. She wants to share
her experience and give hope to others in need as a social
enterprise had pulled her out of her misery.
Supporting social enterprises and social entrepreneurs
Hyundai Motor Company has been contributing to create more social jobs and to expand the social services through establishing and supporting the social enterprises. Hyundai Motor Company had established
‘Easy Move’ who produces rehabilitation equipments and aids for disabled and a bakery ‘H&S Dooriban’.
Hyundai Motor Company has been supporting ‘Easy Life’ who provides home care and welfare services to
underprivileged. In addition to the establishment of ‘Seocho Creative Hub’, anw incubating center for social
enterprises, Hyundai Motor Company has been leading the way in fostering young social entrepreneurs
through the customized entrepreneurship support programs, ‘H-On Dream Audition’.
Bumjoon and his family are busy preparing for the upcoming
Nanta performance at the community center.
Seeing his children having fun practicing the rhythms and
dancing in harmony, he is so happy, he wonders if he is
dreaming.
He knew it would not be easy raising a disabled child. But raising
two children, one with a disability and one normal, has been harder
both on him and his wife than they anticipated. Since his family has
participated in ‘Dynamic Nanta of super family’, one of the Moving
The World Together : Social welfare public proposal Project Programs
provided by Bucheon Community Center for the Disabled, they are
experiencing amazing transformation.
The older child with the developmental disabilities has
always been unstable. The younger child has had hard
time being close to his older brother.
But practicing Nanta together has brought them closer,
slowly but surely. Bumjoon and his wife were jaded
from their jobs and raising two very different children.
Now, with the help from the family counseling and
music therapy, they are beginning to feel relaxed again.
As they spend more time with each other practicing,
they come to understand each other better and love deeper.
You can be assured that their performance will not be
anything other than successful for his family is one with
understanding and love.
My family is
one
with love.
Moving The World Together : Social welfare public proposal Project
Hyundai Motor Company developed ‘Moving The World Together : 2012 Social welfare public proposal Project’ project to make brighter and healthier society through supporting the activities of community center and
specialized social groups since 2005. The annual contest are done in three categories: disabled group, elderly group and children and youth group. An organization to be supported financially and provided with manpower for a year will be selected by strict judging at the contest. Through these contests and support, social
services program will become highly specialized and have stronger institutions and capable practitioners.
Peter is really happy to go to school these days.
Because he now has a wish to become an auto-mechanic.
He used to be very frustrated going to school.
He wanted to get a job and help his parents,
but the unemployment rate was high due to continued bad
economical situation in Europe.
Outlook of getting a good job after the graduation was bleak.
With the uncertain future, he lost interest in studying.
But Peter has changed since he started new vocational classes.
He has a goal to strive for the future with renewed hopes.
He is receiving the systematic youth oriented job training,
ranging from technical skills to management simulations.
Peter wants to be a good mechanic and help his parents.
He wants to have his own automobile service shop someday.
His wish will come true sooner than later, in a near future.
Skills for the Future
Hyundai Motors has partnered with Junior Achievement-Young Enterprise Europe (JA-YE Europe; the largest economics educational NGO in Europe) and started the ‘Skills for the Future’ since 2012 which is the
key program of the Pan-European social contribution events. The goal of this program is to enhance the
youth employment competitiveness and it provides customized vocational trainings for 15 to 18 year olds
in each country. There is an ambitious plan in place to provide the vocational trainings in 400 schools in 15
European countries until 2014. That would be helping 30,000 precious hopes of the European youths to
come true in three years.
I want to be
an automobile
mechanic.
There is
green hope for tomorrow
growing out of
barren lake bed.
Tana is counting the days till the next summer, waiting to meet
friendly big sisters and brothers from Korea again.
Tana lives in Chakanor area of inner Mongolia.
There used to be a lake, but now it turned into a sandy desert.
Every summer for several years now, the Youth Corps
of Korea have come to build sand walls and
plant seepweeds which grows well in salty habitat,
on the barren lake bed.
The seepweed has grown on the lake bed little by little and
now it has become a green meadow as big as 50,000,000㎡.
They will plant more perennial seepweeds now to fortify
the meadow land. As the barren lake bed turned into the
healthy green meadow, Tana and her family can remain
in the village to live happily ever after.
She will be glad when the Youth Corps from Korea returns
next year, for the green meadow also has grown hopes.
Hyundai Green Zone China
Hyundai Motors is proceeding with ‘Hyundai Green Zone China’ since 2008 as one of the Green Move
programs which is in pursuit of a sustainable Earth environment. This project involves planting salty habitat
vegetation such as seepweeds to prevent desertification of Chakanor area in Inner Mongolia’s Kunshantag
Desert. In its first phase till 2012, 50,000,000 of green meadow were planted with seepweeds and windbreakers were installed. In the second phase from 2013 to 2017, this project will introduce new plants to
more effectively prevent the desertification.

Supporting Easy Move Co., a social enterprise
Hyundai Motor Company in 2010 established a
social enterprise manufacturing aid devices, Easy
Move, Inc. that is a first of its kind in Korea. Easy
Move Inc. is an organization that manufactures
supplementary and rehabilitation aids to promote
the transportation conveniences to the disabled and
the elderly. It has invested 2.9 billion won over the
past three years to facilitate welfare and economical growth and is contributing to achieve the goal of
valuable public interests by creating jobs for the economically vulnerable classes. Easy Move Inc. develops and manufactures excellent and diverse aids for
supplementary and rehabilitation as in accessories
for vehicle boarding/alighting, posture brace, moving
and walking and increases the product satisfaction
by strengthening after-sales service which has been
lacking in Korea to minimize the inconvenience to
customer.

Dream road of two wheels
Hyundai donated strollers and bicycles to the transportation challenged and the vulnerable young and
infants for safe transportation. Hyundai in association
with Green Umbrella Children’s foundation held a
ceremony for ‘Dream road of two wheels’ in Wonhyoro gymnasium, Yongsan-gu in Seoul and delivered
20 strollers and 326 bicycles to infants and youths of
low income families. The event was even more heartwarming with a one year supply of baby formula for
those 20 people who received strollers. The ‘Dream
road of two wheels’ movement was inspired by the
idea that strollers, bikes and cars have ‘wheels’ as
the common property and became a starting point
to expand the movement beyond the children and
youths to include the infants.

The Ulsan plant of Hyundai Motor Company has
continuously promoted the vehicle support program
to contribute transportations for the local social welfare organizations since 2005. It has delivered 13
vehicles, 8 Grand Starex (12 seater) and 5 Avante
hybrids, to 13 social welfare community organizations for children, youth, elderly, handicapped and
multicultural families in September 13, 2012. We
painted a slogan ‘Moving The World Together’ on the
donated vehicles and used such names as ‘Happy
Starex’, ‘Clean Avante Hybrid’ to further convey the
friendliness. The plant does not stop at donating the
vehicles but also provides maintenance as replacing
parts and check-ups for the vehicles, and Hyundai
plant volunteers are checking the vehicles of social
welfare organizations regularly.
Functionality added program to promote
mobility convenience to the organizations for
the disabled
Hyundai is supporting functionality added programs
to enhance the transportation convenience for the
disabled through the annual public contest to secure
the right of transportation and safety for the disabled.
Through our support activities since 2006, we have
thus far been able to replace the automatic entrance
doors, improve the toilet environment, install height
adjustable sink, ramps, elastic rubber outdoor road
blocks, non-skid roll, Braille blocks, handrails, entrance door expansion, inclined rescue, audio-visual
alarms and evacuation equipments. In 2012, we
have selected 96 organizations through the public
contest, as diverse ones as for the disabled independence living facilities, disabled vocational rehabilitation facilities and group homes. We supported those
facilities by installing transportation convenience
facilities, access roads, and evacuation facilities for
the disabled person to use with comforts.

Looking for Three leaf Clovers
Hyundai has been conducting a program called
‘Looking for Three leaf Clovers’, that listen to the
wishes of boys and girls who are experiencing difficult times from traffic accident losses since 2005.
We select applicants from those who are under 18
years old who have suffered severe financial and
psychological distress due to the passing or disability of parents. We grant all the wishes of the selected applicants for one year. We support not only
wishes that require materialistic support but also the
emotional ones as well by establishing mentors with
Hyundai employees. In 2012, we selected 250 applicants through screening and granted their wishes
in three areas: happy supplies for necessities, happy
funds for tuition and medical expenses, and happy
activity for travels. In particular, ‘Wish performance
safety camp’ was held to provide safety education
and the opportunity to experience culture in addition to granting their wishes in August 2012 for two
nights and three days. They had fun and good times
with variety of programs as water safety training,
movies, Caribbean Bay experience, a lecture on
dream of the future by comedian Lee, Honggyu and
a field trip to Namyang Research Center.

• Volunteering during the holidays
Hyundai had participated in the social contributing
activities in sharing warmth of family with the underprivileged during the holiday seasons of 2012. The
weeks of New Year’s Day and Hangawi are designated as ‘the community service week to celebrate

the entire company to visit over 150 sisterhood facilities and give gifts and funds of love in addition to
providing the rice cake soups on New Year’s Day
and making the half moon rice cake on Hangawi.
• 1-Company on 1-Village Volunteering
‘1-Company on 1-Village Volunteering’ of Hyundai is
a rural care program through the sisterhood between
one of the Hyundai affiliates and one rural village. It
was established in 2005 to instigate the economy
revitalization and bring the development balance to
rural areas. The program had been extended to 70
villages nationwide by 2009. The staffs and employees of Hyundai not only participate in lending helping
hands during the busy farming seasons with planting
and harvesting each year, but also with building community centers, making repairs and maintenances of
the community facilities, painting mural on the community storage barns, and making gardens for the
children of the branch schools. The volunteers have
helped tremendously in anchoring the 1-Company
on 1-Village program by providing what the sisterhood village actually needed and the emotional support as well. More than 100 staffs and employees
of the main office had visited Worun-ri Hongcheongun in Gangwon-do, their sisterhood village, twice
in 2012, once in the spring and again in the fall.
They provided more than called for in addition to
lending helping hands; with bright ideas and talents
combined, murals were painted on the walls of the
community storage barn, a garden was planted in
the branch school so that the children now have an
opportunity to observe ecological system in a small
scale and invited ‘Sound & Echo’, a band of disabled
members supported by Hyundai, to perform for the
villagers which were sensational to say the least.

H-volunteer designer program is created so that
the staffs and employees of Hyundai could plan any
volunteer activities and carry out on their own. This
program has progressed from ‘my volunteering
activity’, a talent donation program started in 2011,
and developed into what is currently a H-volunteer
designer. The inconvenience of regular visits to a
predetermined facilities at a predetermined time has
been complemented by this program in a way that
staffs and employees involved in the volunteering
activities drew greater satisfaction. A team of staffs
and employees would be ‘designers’ themselves to
choose volunteer targets, activities and schedule
and submit a proposal. Then the Hyundai social contributions division personnel and expert NGO would
select an activity each month. Selected activity
would receive an appropriate budget and a mentoring for the maximized activity effect. Selected activities in 2012 were; hands-on cultural activities with
children of multicultural families, Taekwondo lessons
to youth of alternative schools, employment mentoring at alma mater, fundraising charity performances
to help the disabled, living condition improvements
for underprivileged, and taking portraits of the elderly
to be used in their memorial services. The experiences of talent donation, themed activities and outreach
activities were especially rewarding and fulfilling as
much for the designers.
