Welcome to the 80’s
Families, Teachers & Staff!
Binks
We invite you on a journey back to
the 80’s to a time when we were

have fun, and everyone was
footloose! Teacher Appreciation
Week is May 6th – 10th. Parents, Administration, and PTA have
been working overtime for another fun-filled week to celebrate our
amazing teachers and staff. Were you into Punk Rock or Prep? On
Friday, May 10th show your true colors by dressing in your favorite
(school appropriate) 80’s attire. Thank you to everyone who
makes this week possible and a special thanks to Tijuana Flats for
providing complimentary lunch for our teachers.
The final two Health & Wellness Workshops presented by
Wellington Wellness Institute are on Wednesday May 1st and 8th.
You can register by returning the registration form to school,
online at www.NutritionistFlorida.com/communityworkshops, or
by calling 561-333-3440. Walk-ins are welcome! An additional
workshop of a parent “field trip” to the Courtyard Shops Publix on
Greenview Shores has been scheduled on May 15th at 9:30 a.m.
Learn about reading nutrition labels and make healthier choices.
You don’t want to miss this!
Save the date! On Thursday May 16th at 9:30 a.m. in the Media
Center all Binks Volunteers are cordially invited to attend the
annual Volunteer Appreciation Brunch. Enjoy a delicious brunch
and an awards ceremony to celebrate YOU for all that you do!

Administration's Message
Dear Binks Forest Families,
We have had another amazing year here at Binks.
As we draw to the close of the 2012-2013 school
year, we want to thank our school community, our
School Advisory Council and our PTA board
members for all their hard work and efforts to
support our school.
I want to take a special moment to bid farewell to
our current 5th graders. I have loved every moment
that I have been able to spend with them. They are
wonderful students and I am going to miss seeing
them here at Binks but know that they are prepared
and ready for the next steps in their lives.
I also want to wish a bittersweet farewell to Ms. Joy
Riley, Mrs. Karen Haligas and Mrs. Penny Hudgins
on a well deserved retirement. They will be truly
missed by the students and their colleagues.
Thank you for all the support you have given me for
the past two years. I look forward to many years
together.

VP Ways and Means
It’s hard to believe that summer is almost here
and my term is coming to an end. I am so proud
and thankful to have been a part of the 20112013 PTA Executive Board. We have made
great strides toward enhancing the learning
and classroom environment for Binks’ students

dedication of Mrs. Levy and Ms. Berard, our
talented teachers and staff, generous donors,
families and volunteers, this Board has made
significant progress in updating and
supplementing Binks’ technology and tutorial
programs. With the continued corroboration of
our community and the implementation of the
Common Core Standards and I am confident
that Binks’ students will continue to excel.
It has been an honor to serve as Vice President

Hello to all of our Binks Forest
families and friends. What a
great year we have had so far!
We have character counts 5th
grade scholarships coming up in a few weeks
where we recognize one of the exceptional
students in each fifth grade class and present
them with a scholarship award from Binks
Forest and the PTA.
Over the past few years I have enjoyed
working with the many families and friends at
Binks Forest Elementary in so many projects.
We have delivered thousands of articles of
clothing to Gove Elementary, Canal Point
Elementary, Collection Points, and many
families in need right here in our own
community!
We have collected school
supplies and delivered them to people in our
community that needed them. We helped fuel
the minds of our students during FCAT testing.
We have collected books and delivered to
both schools, two different hospitals, as well as
our own classrooms and families in need. We
have collected canned foods and other related
items and delivered them to other schools,
soup kitchens, and families right here in our
neighborhood. Over the past two years we've
insured that many families right here at Binks
that are in need had new shoes on their feet,
clothes, food in their pantry, books to read,
and special holiday meals by coming together
as a community here at Binks Forest. From the
warmest place in my heart I would like to say
thank you for all of your participation and
support in these great endeavors. I look
forward to many great things for all of you in
the future.

Summer Resources – The Wellington
Guidance Advisory Council which includes
guidance counselors from Wellington Schools
has put together a 1-page document listing
some of the local family, mental health and
psychiatric services available in our local area.
Some of the providers on the list take insurance
and some do not but if you are looking for
some general names for family counselors or
child psychiatrists you can email me and I will
be happy to forward that list to you. Here are
some other resources that might be helpful to
have with you over the summer:
Parent Book Chat: (Monday, May 13th at
12:30) Our final book chat will center around 2
of our past book selections: The Good Enough
Mother and The Price of Privilege. It’s not too
late to join our book chat. Even if you don’t
have time to read the books come for a great
discussion with other parents. I think this is a
great book and a pretty fast read too. Please
