Doo-Wop with The Precisions
Sunday, April 3rd, 2:30 PM
In an encore performance, The Precisions who topped the
national record charts in 1962 with their haunting arrangement of the George and Ira Gershwin composition, Someone
To Watch Over Me, (Golden Crest Records) will entertain us
in what promises to be a standing-room-only performance
featuring some of their original recordings and paying tribute
to the best of rock and roll music spanning three decades. The Precisions will perform with one of New York’s renowned
female artists, Catherine Santaniello, and musician/vocalists
Bob Falco, Rob Falco, Al Frazia, John Garbedian and Harold
Wilson. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Free tickets are available at the Circulation Desk.

Hornucopia

This French horn quartet
is comprised of four good
friends, all of whom are
career music educators and
hornists from the Huntington, NY area. They share a
passion for playing wonderful music together. Hornucopia’s
mission is to not only entertain but also educate their audience
while they extol the virtues and beautiful sound of this noble
instrument. Please join band members Tara Adams, Christine
Zacher, Alan Orloff and Tom Gellert for an afternoon of great
music stretching from the 17th century to present day. Tickets

Trustee Election & Budget Vote - Tuesday, April 5, 2016 3:00 - 9:00 PM
Dear Friends,
This year the New York State Real Property Tax Cap is
the lowest it has been since the legislation went into effect
in 2011. While this severely affects the Library’s budget, it
has always been the goal of the Library Board of Trustees,
administration and staff to keep our beautiful library, the
heart of the community, moving forward.
The Library keeps you connected. We added more wireless access points and increased our bandwidth to make
sure that wherever you are in the Library we can provide
high-speed access to the Internet.
The Children’s Room had a makeover! New carpeting
and furniture has added vibrant colors and additional seating. IPads with educational apps are now available in the
Toddler space as well as the new, dedicated Tween space.
This year we are creating a new room, adjacent to the
existing quiet room, where we will offer technology classes
and training. When not in use for training, it will be an additional quiet space for individual study. We will also be
completely renovating and expanding our Young Adult area.
The new space will include a designated Maker Space,
equipped with a 3D printer, and additional computers with
the latest technology.
We are happy to announce that we will receive a New
York State Library Construction Grant, to help fund these
two projects.
The Library is moving forward and following a path that
leads us to meet the future needs of every individual in our
community.

Absentee ballots may be applied for at the Business Office of
the Harborfields Public Library, Monday through Friday, from 10
AM to 5 PM. Such applications must be received by the Library
Director at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is
to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. All absentee ballots
must be received at the Library by 5 PM on the day of the election
in order to be counted. Persons designated by the Suffolk County
Board of Elections as “permanently disabled” pursuant to provisions of the Election Law will automatically receive an absentee
ballot and need not apply.
In addition to the vote on the proposed operating budget,
there will be an election for the position on the Library Board of
Trustees presently held by Joseph Friedlander. This position has
a five‑year term of office, expiring on June 30th, 2021.

Library Board of Trustees Candidate:
David Clemens
In 1973, David Clemens and his
wife Joan made Centerport their
home. Since then they have been
active members of the community, and
their children James and Janet are
both graduates of Harborfields High
School.
For many years David served as
Cubmaster of Pack 225 and Scoutmaster of Troop 32 in Greenlawn. He
currently serves as a Trustee of the
Centerport United Methodist Church
and is the Historian of the Centerport Yacht Club.
David is a retired professional librarian and has also
served as a Trustee for the Huntington Historical Society
and the Greenlawn Centerport Historical Association. He is
currently a Trustee of the Suffolk County Historical Society
and Chairman of its Library Committee. He is looking for
your support in becoming a member of the Harborfields
Public Library Board of Trustees.

gardening practices. You can share seeds and planting tips,
and have your soil tested for pH. Make this year’s vegetable

Please join Winter Brook, psychic medium from Northport, as
she explains the various ways mediums connect with those who
have passed over into the World of Spirit. She will discuss how

Free Health Screening
St. Francis Mobile Unit at the Library
Tuesday, April 19th, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Anyone above the age of 18 is invited to come for a free
health screening provided by registered nurses from St. Francis
Hospital. The screenings will include a brief cardiac history, blood
pressure, and a simple blood test for cholesterol and diabetes.
Patient education and referrals also will be available. Screenings will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The bus will be
parked in the circular driveway on Broadway. If you need additional information, contact the St. Francis Outreach Department

Dance Therapeutics
Mondays, April 11th - June 20th, (No class 5/30)
11:15 AM –12:15 PM
Barbara Schwenker, a certified fitness/dance instructor who
understands the limitations of common medical conditions such
as arthritis or hip, knee and back pain, will teach the class. Participants are encouraged to move and workout at their own pace.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and remember to bring a
water bottle to the class. Harborfields Library cardholders will
have priority registration. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for
this ten-week session. Non-residents may register beginning
April 6th if space remains. In-person registration with payment

Long Island Reads is a joint project of the Nassau Library
System and the public libraries of Suffolk County that brings

Twentieth Century by David Laskin

David Laskin’s The Family is a vivid, utterly compelling
exploration of the forces that have shaped modern history. We
often see these forces– capitalism, fascism, mass migration,
assimilation–only from a distance, as vast, impersonal abstractions. But in Laskin’s book, we see them in the intimate details
of actual life, deftly followed through a tangle of triumph and

Winter Reading Club for Adults
The Feathered Friends of Winter reading club concluded on
Monday, February 29th. Over 300 books were enjoyed by 80
participants. Three lucky winners won fun raffles. We hope you

Teens ages 14 and up can obtain their CPR/AED certification from the American Heart Association. Upon completion
of this two-week course, teens will receive a certification

Volunteers will assist adults with various technology-related questions about smartphones, PCs, iPads, iPods and

Spring Cleaning
Shredding Day
Saturday, April 30th, 1:30 - 3:30 PM
Bring up to three bags or boxes of paper per
household to be shredded. Drive your car up
to the shredding truck that will be parked in the
circular driveway, then watch on a closed-circuit
monitor as your papers are shredded.
Shed Your Meds
Saturday, April 16th, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
The Suffolk County Police –2nd Precinct will
collect unused or expired prescription and overthe-counter medications in the Library lobby.
Liquids and syringes will not be accepted. No
questions asked and no personal information
is required. Proper disposal of these items is
essential for risk reduction and environmental
protection. This event is co-sponsored by the
Greenlawn Civic Association.

Applications are now available on our
webpage and at the Reference Desk.
This event is open to vendors who want to
sell household items, bric-a-brac and collectibles, new merchandise, handcrafted items, or
rent a space to promote your business. The
non-refundable fee for a 10’ x 10’ space in the
circular driveway is $30. Tables for the space
are available for an additional $5 each. Pick up
an application in the Library or online and return it with payment to the Program & Publicity
Office. Make checks payable to the “Friends of
the Library.” Spaces and tables are assigned
on a first-come, first-served basis. All vendors
must make their own provisions for shade or
rain. Canopies and/or tents 10’x10’ or smaller
will be permitted.
