It was 4:00 a.m. on Monday when Gavin
Degraw was walking the streets of New
York. It was then when he got into an
argument with a couple of strangers. Soon
enough they started using violence. Gavin
Degraw got beaten up. someone called 911
after seeing him lying on the ground,
bleeding. he was rushed to the Bellevue
hospital's emergancy room. He had a
broken nose, a concussion and several cuts
and bruises. The identities of those
strangers still remain unknown.
Gavin DeGraw's music has different genres:
Blue-eyed soul, Pop rock and rock.
Blue-Eyed soul: blue-eyed soul als known
as white soul music, has gotten his name
because it is soul music performed by white
performers, and usually also a white
audience.
Pop Rock: Is a mix of a cathy tune and
some light lyrics. But it depends per person
wether they find a song fitting to the genre
pop-rock.
Rock: Rock finds it's roots in the rock and
roll. It changed over the years by influences
of rhythm and blues and country music.
Another song I really like is; More than
anyone.
It sort of is the song of my boyfriend and I. I
have liked him for a long time, and this song
always makes me think of him. He likes the
song alot too. The song is about loving
someone more than anyone else, and never
wanting to leave him/her. I first heard this
song when I was wathcing One Tree Hill.
the songn is played during a wedding. It
was a beautiful scene.

Gavin Degraw grew up in The Catskills in
New York. He began to sing and play piano
when he was only * years old. HIs older
brother Joey urged him to write his own
songs.After having tried to schools he
stopped going to colllege and started
working while also working on his music
career by himself. Gavin degraw really
started getting famous after his first hit 'I
don't wanna be which also was chosen as
theme song in the famous soap One Tree
Hill. GAvin Degraw also has some small
parts in this soap himself!

Why this song?
I chose this song because I think the lyrics
are very beautiful. they are about being
youself and not someone who you aren't. In
life it helped me to not do things that the
real "me" wouoldn't do. and to stay close to
who I really am. I especially listened to this
song when I went back to Chad for a week.
I have lived there for 4 years as a child. And
i was really excited about going back. I
missed my friends there, and was very
excited about seeing my old house and
school. Listening to that song and being
back there reminded me of who I wanted to
be. That was really special for me. And it
also made me realize that I want to live
there again as soon as I am finished with
school.
After a few months of working on his own,
he caught the eye of Debbie Wilson an
owner of a club. Debbie Wilson became his
manager and soon enough he got a record
deal at Warner Chappel Music.

"When I first started playing music it was
just because I liked the way it sounded. In
fact I didn't actually start listening to words
until deep into my teenage years. The
words just always seemed only sounds, I
was always only involved into the music
element. And it took me a long time to really
start appreciating the music lyrics. What
allowed me to appreciate the lyrics the most
is that one day. I think i was 15 or 16, and i
was learning these cover songs on the
piano. My brother came to me and said,
why don;t you write a song? and i said; why,
all the best songs already have been
written? and he said; well if you don't write
them, why should anybody remember you?
He was really challenging me, and there's
nothing more effective than a challenge
from you brother.
