Thanks to our active members, a tradition has been started now
known as Club Day. In spite of threating weather, we had a great
turnout last month. Many had two hour drives in open cars,
some, starting out up north, with rain falling. This group continues to inspire; nothing stops them.
Jeff Leeds
School bells are ringing, but summer isn’t over for this Club, as
we will be gathering at Unobtainium Inc. this Labor Day weekend
with a show the following day at Lime Rock Park in CT. Adam and Matt always put on a great event and
impressed all with the endless sliders truck last year. I’m told that the Hooters girls were booked but
they have another surprise for us this Sat. Hope to see lots of Tubs lined up at their front gate.
Sept is a busy month for us as the following activities are on the schedule:
Sept 12: - Cars & Coffee – Chambers BMW – Sudbury
- Cape Cod Eco-Tour of Barnstable (Filled w/standby list)- Paul Vincent
- PCA Concours – Lars Anderson Museum of Transportation*
Sept 16: - Loafers Lunch – North –Lindsay Carroll
Sept 20: - Drive Your Porsche Day – Norm Brust
All the details are in this issue and on the website, there is something for everyone no matter where you
live. Don’t miss a chance to put a tank of fresh gas in your Tub before you have to park it for the winter.
KTF Tom Tate
Note-
For those who will be attending either (or both) the Unobtainium Open house on Sat 9/5 or Sunday in the Park at Lime Rock on Sunday 9/6 feel free to join other members for dinner at the Boathouse
on Saturday night. There were a couple of tableful's in the past. We’ll be there around 6 pm. Give Tom
Tate a shout if you want them to save you a seat.

Events in September
Saturday Sept 5th- Unobtanium Open House
12pm to 3pm
I want to invite everyone out to our 2nd Annual Open House at our
location in scenic Ravena, NY. We have finally moved our whole operation from the old leather factory in Gloversville, NY. Cars that have
not seen the light of day in over a decade are now back in the sun.
There is plenty of parking that is super safe as the Police Station is
the only other building on our dead end street. We encourage everyone to bring their Porsche, but, if you can't, please bring yourself and
a few friends. We will have food and drink on hand and the Unobtanium crew, of Adam, Matt, and Big John, will be there to answer any
questions. We might even talk Big John into doing some feats of great
strength!
The warehouse normally has 15-20 early Porsche projects to look at as well as shelf after shelf of parts
for all your restoration needs. You won't be disappointed if Porsche 356's and early 9 series cars are
your passion. In addition, some of our personal collection will be on hand like the 356 A Coupe that
won Daytona in 1966. You can also check out the latest shop project - we are converting a 914-6 into a
904 using a real 904 body!
We are hoping Wray from Proshaper can come out with the latest metal he is shaping for our aluminum
550 Spyder project. His website is http://www.proshaper.com if you want to check out his work.
If you want to see pics from last year's open house you can check them out on our blog:
https://unobtaniuminc.wordpress.com/
Last year we lined the street in so many Porsches you would have
thought you were in Germany!
The shop address is:
Unobtanium

Ravena, NY 12143
Unobtanium Open House
Saturday, September 5th, 2015

Hope to see you there!

Sunday, Sept 6th—Lime Rock - Sunday in the Park
S
unday, Sept 6th, the day after the Unobtainium Open House, several members will be attending the Vintage Car Show at LRP known as Sunday in the
Park.
A great opportunity to see the entire track covered with vintage cars of all
makes, models and years. There will even be an area for all Porsches with 356’s
huddled together, usually in the middle of Big Bend. Come out for the day and be part of the largest import car show in New England. Tom Tate

Saturday, September 12th- PCA Concourse
W
e have again been invited to attend the Porsche Club of America, Northeast Region Concourse
on Sept 12th at Lars Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline. This is the same event that many of us attended last year at The Elms in Newport RI.
Gates open at 9 am with awards at 2pm. Tom Tate will be helping to line up the cars on the grass so let
him know if you’d like to have him hold a spot for you. Catered food will be available there or bring a
picnic lunch. Last year’s event had over 110 Porsches with 26 356’s.
Lets make sure we outnumber the 911’s. Tom Tate
Registration before 8/8/2015 is $10, $30 day of event; for details go to :
http://www.porschenet.com/2015-ner-concours-at-larz-anderson-museum-sept-12th/
Wednesday, September 16th– Northern Loafer’s Lunch
Lindsey and Ginny Carroll will start it like the one they ran in 2013, but with a very different route and
destination.
We will meet at 10AM at the rest stop in Seabrook NH., off of I-95 north, just over the state line. We will
be departing at 10:30 for about a 40 mile run, putting us at BG's by noon. The tour will run mostly on NH
highways with a slow but interesting ride across Newcastle to BG's Boathouse Restaurant.
Details--The first leg will take us through Seabrook, South Hampton,
Kennsington, and into Exeter where we will have to cut through a little bit of
downtown and turn into Swazey Park by the PEA Boat House.
This little Park is along the headwaters of the Swampscott River. We will
pause here just briefly for a head check. The second leg will be up into Newfields, then west on NH 87 a few miles where we will take some back roads
to intersect NH152, avoiding Newmarket traffic. Then West on this road to
intersect NH155 and follow this road through Lee, Madbury and onto Route 4
in Durham. The last leg is an express run toward the Sea, skirting through the PDA Industrial Park connecting to Route 33. We are heading for Route1A for a tour of Newcastle, winding roads through the earliest Fishing Village, then past Wentworth By The Sea.
Send an email to Lindsay at [email protected] if your planning to attend.
Sunday, September 20th—Drive Your Porsche Day
This year’s DYPD will be a relaxed drive through the lakes region of Southeastern Massachusetts, a fun
run on the twisty turns of Myles Standish State Park and will end at Plane Jane’s at the Plymouth Airport
for a casual lunch. Details to follow by email.
Save the date.
Norm Brust
Thursday, September 24th—Cruise night at Patriot Place in Foxboro.
This is a PCA event that we’ve been invited to next month. The Porsches will all be placed in a separate
lot near the Bass Pro Shop store. Follow signs for "Cruise night", we are in lot 16. Start time is 4pm. This
event is on if light rain; not on if heavy rain. We are in need of some volunteers to arrive mid-afternoon
that day and help direct our members to the proper parking spots. Please contact Steve Ross at
[email protected] if you are willing to assist. There is no charge for the event. Let’s have a great turnout
and show the hot rodders what a real car is like. Tom Tate

Sunday August 23rd—TYP356ne First Annual Club Day
The First Annual Club Day at the Endicott Estate was a huge success. We had so many club members show up to support the
event. One of the event categories for the day was " Best Picnic".
As a new Type 356ne member I thought- wow this may be a great
category for me to win. Well, not so fast here comes Judy Hendrickson from Nashua NH with 40 years in the PCA and close to
25 or more years in the Type 356ne club. She brought her “A”
game to this picnic and had a folding table, candle light, wine,
fresh French bread, artesian cheeses and grapes! She had all Porsche plates, cups, and ice bucket. As a new novice member "I was
blown away". She took the picnic category to a whole new level.
We had a wonderful lunch under the gazebo. Congratulations to
Judy on her Picnic Win!

All of the car pictures were taken by David Lawrence
using a high resolution Nikon camera. It’s not possible
to send all 26 high resolution pictures in one email.
Therefore, the pictures on the club website are low
resolution. They look fine on the website, but if you
want to copy them to blow up to a larger size, the low
resolution will not give the best results.
George Nelson’s 914 ( 2854)
David has agreed to email a high resolution copy to
you at no charge. Just send David an email with the 4
digit number on your car’s picture, and ask for a high
resolution copy. I did and it looks fantastic.

August 18th— Lobster Lovers Loafer’s Lunch
Thank you to Alex and Danna Dearborn for hosting what has to be one of the most unique Loafers
lunches I have ever had the pleasure of attending.
Upon arrival, we were treated to home brewed ice tea, wine and beer
to cool us off while we passed
the time enjoying the view of
their gorgeous garden and other members continued to arrive. Once the group was together, a private launch took
our party of 28 people in two
groups to a lovely sea side
restaurant where we enjoyed
lunch and libations while
catching up with friends.
The heat of the day was admittedly a bit much but it made the sea
breeze all that much sweeter when it did blow. As the afternoon
wrapped up, we were
shuttled by launch and
minivan back to Alex and
Danna’s home where we
said our good byes and
made a hasty retreat to
beat the afternoon thunderstorms home. It was
close but I did catch the
tail end of a shower a few miles from home. A small price to
pay for such a great day with so many members coming together and such gracious hosts. Peter Venuti
August 9th - Founders Day “Show Time”
This year’s Founders Day Event was again hosted by Ken and Gloria Nykiel at their beautiful
home in Stoughton, MA. This years event had
a Show Time, movie theme and the house was
decorated appropriately as shown in the two
pictures. Several members wore movie theme
clothes, I wore my Top Gun shirt and hat from
30 years ago.
Again this year, Carla and Jay, from Silverstone
Catering, pictured at left with Ken and Gloria,
provided the fantastic food that was enjoyed by all. With 40 members in attendance, the house was full and the drive way/street was packed with Porsches, mostly 356’s. Go to the club
website to see more pictures of the event.
Our thanks to Ken and Gloria for their work and hospitality for this fun event. Ed Tobolski
