Our autumn and winter season is literally bursting with a great selection of
shows and events! Whether it be famous comedians, a world class symphony
orchestra or fun with CBeebies superstar Tree Fu Tom, there’s something for
all the family…
This year our Christmas pantomime is going to be extra special! With our
biggest star cast to date and beautiful real ponies too, Cinderella will definitely
be a magical show. And remember, Christmas isn’t Christmas without a visit to
The Sands’ panto!
We are thrilled to announce another first time visit for a great West End
musical. Footloose starring Gareth Gates plays for one week only in March.
I’m sure the show will be a huge hit and lots of fun…Do you remember

Michael Palin: The Thirty Years Tour
Following the success of his landmark tour in 2014 and to celebrate three
decades of diaries, Michael Palin will mark the paperback publication of the
final volume with a brand new show. In this two part stage show Michael
brings to life thirty extraordinary years, trawling through a stock of rarely told
stories, ranging from fighting to defend ‘Monty Python’ in a US courthouse,
the ‘Ripping Yarn’ that never got made, Python’s American groupies and what
it’s like filming with your own children. He also talks about the glimpses of his
personal life which have been so painstakingly committed to the diary each

regarded violinist Jack Liebeck joining the orchestra with Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, which makes such huge
virtuosic demands on the soloist. The concert concludes with Vaughan Williams’ favourite of his nine symphonies,

Our first international orchestra of the season comes from that most musical city, Prague. Their programme opens with
Smetana’s dramatic Sarka, from the composer’s autobiographic symphonic poem, ‘Ma Vlast’. We’re then very pleased
to have as soloist the ever popular Chloe Hanslip, who will perform Dvorak’s masterpiece for violin and orchestra. In
the second half Jan Kucera will conduct the orchestra in a performance of what many believe to be Dvorak’s greatest
symphony with its highly romantic Adagio and dynamic outer movements.

Don Quixote is a ballet based on episodes from the famous novel
‘Don Quixote de la Mancha’ by Miguel de Cervantes. This new
and vibrant production, including brave knights, fabulous giants
and other fantastical creatures, is a ballet that has something for
everyone. Don Quixote dreams of a divine woman and their romantic
adventures together. On his travels with his faithful servant, Sancho
Panza, they experience lots of unexpected situations, tricks and duel
challenges. Don Quixote was originally choreographed by
Marius Petipa to the music of Ludwig Minkus, and
was first presented by the Ballet of the
Imperial Bolshoi Theatre in December 1869.

Barron Von Rockula in the all new Vampires Rock saga - The Ghost Train. As
club Live And Let Die burns to the ground, Barron Von Rockula flees the
ill-fated club with his band of blood sucking vampires in search of a new
home. Eventually they come across an old abandoned fairground ride, The
Ghost Train, where they take refuge. The Barron and his motley crew then
set a cunning plan to lure victims into the ride to live in Rock ‘n’ Roll hell

The gap between how we imagine our lives to be and how they really are is
the subject of Bill’s new show, ‘Limboland’. With his trademark intelligence
and sharp wit, he tells tales of finding himself in this halfway place. From his
countless global travels, he recounts the hilarious saga of a disastrous family
trip to Norway to see the Northern Lights. He rails against a world that doesn’t
match up to our expectations and contemplates the true nature of happiness.
And no Bill Bailey show would be complete without music, so we have Bill’s
version of the protest song, a heart-rending country and western ballad played
on a bible, and a fabulously downbeat version of Happy Birthday.

We’re delighted to welcome Poland’s leading orchestra in a concert
that opens with John Adams’ highly theatrical The Chairman Dances,
an effervescent foxtrot for orchestra. The great Russian virtuoso Nikolai
Demidenko is a renowned Chopin specialist and his performance of
Chopin’s romantic first piano concerto will be a highlight of the season. The
programme concludes with Beethoven’s epic third symphony, known as the
Eroica. Initially inspired by Napoleon, the symphony is ultimately a portrait of
Beethoven himself.

No opera can match the tragedy and sorrow of Puccini’s Madam
Butterfly. This tale of the doomed love of an American naval lieutenant
and his young Japanese bride inspired Puccini to write some of his most
sublime and beautiful music. The basis of the plot is actually a true story
of a Japanese geisha girl who had a son by ‘marriage’ to an American
naval officer who soon deserted her, leaving her heartbroken. Set in
Japan at the turn of the century, Madam Butterfly is among the most
colourful and exotic of all operas, and from its theme of noble
self-sacrifice spring melodies that grips your heart. This exquisite
production, with its beautiful set and costumes, features an impressive
cast and is accompanied by a large live orchestra with
over 30 musicians.

Parking
There is a pay & display car park
directly adjacent to The Sands Centre.
Please be aware that on popular or
sell-out performances, or if there are
other busy activities nearby, the car
park can quickly become full and the
high flow of traffic may result in periods
of congestion leaving the car park and
accessing Hardwicke Circus. The car
park is administered by Carlisle City
Council (please visit carlisle.gov.uk for
further information).

Food & Drink
The restaurant and bars at The Sands
Centre, operated by No.10 Catering,
are open every day and whenever there
is a performance. Bars close at 11pm or
30 minutes after a show, whichever is
later. We reserve the right to modify bar
closing times for late night events or at
times of low patronage after a show.
Interval Drinks – beat the rush by
ordering and paying for your interval
drinks before the show.
Depending on the show’s format you
may be able to take your drinks into
the auditorium, however they must be
decanted into a plastic cup and hot
drinks must have a lid on the cup also.
Please note: the bar may be closed
whilst the performance is happening.

When booking by post it is best to call
the box office to reserve your seats and
then send a letter with the details of the
show and payment by cheque (made
payable to GLL).

include a stamped addressed envelope
and a contact telephone number. Note:
please allow up to 2 weeks prior to the
performance when using this method
of purchase. Booking by post does not
guarantee availability.
Online
You can book online 24 hours a day at
thesandscentre.co.uk by credit or debit
card and select your own seats from a
live seating plan. You will need to create
your own account (and remember your
username and password), choose the
show and the seats that you want, put
them into the basket, select the delivery
method and enter your card details.
Tickets can be posted (postage 75p)
or you can opt for collection at the box
office in which case you will receive a
bar code within your confirmation email
which you should print off and bring
with you. Remember that you can log
back into your account at any time to
see your booking history and to reprint
collection bar codes.

the show ticket prices exclude booking
fees which apply to all performances.
Bookings made at our box office
(in person or by phone) are subject to
a £1.40 per ticket booking fee, except
performances marked with  which are
subject to a 55p booking fee and those
marked with * that have no booking fee.
Reservations
Tickets can be reserved for certain
performances. Please contact our
box office to make a reservation.
Reservations will be held for seven
days only and therefore cannot
be taken in the week before a
performance.
Refunds and Exchanges
Tickets cannot be refunded or
exchanged unless an event is
cancelled. We do not accept tickets for
resale. If a performance is sold out, we
may accept tickets for resale but in that
case booking fees or transaction fees
are non-refundable.
Attending a Spiritual Event
By attending a spiritual event you
agree that you have sought the
services provided of your own accord
and understand that it is a holistic
experiment and experience. The
