May 2016 President’s Message
Happy Spring to everyone! Grass cutting season has started along with the car cruises and car shows in full
swing. Glad to see the green coming back. Looking back last winter wasn't so bad. Any winter is not welcome
so I am glad spring has sprung.
We had 12 members and partners attend the Oldsmar Centennial hosted by the Oldsmobile Club of Florida.
Leo and Karen Stutzmann were the personal host for this 100th anniversary celebration the founding of the
Township of Oldsmar and its founder R.E. Olds. Wednesday was a personal tour of 200 plus cars at NPD
National Parts Depot owners Jim and Rick Schmidt showing us their personal collection of low mileage cars.
There was not a specific theme other than most all the cars are in original condition with very low miles. The
Father had a earlier business of supplying Kodak Camera Company parts for their camera's which started the
largest collection in the world of Kodak Camera and memorabilia. It was huge! All the way around the car
collection were these glass display cases showing all the Kodak items from the beginning to the end with
nothing duplicated. These display glass cases were all the way around this 200 plus car warehouse. A nice
tour. Thursday was the tour of Tampa Downs race track, then onto the Nielsen Rating Corporations Head
Quarters. Friday was a car cruise in the Oldsmar City Park. Saturday was to have the big centennial
celebration parade but it got rained out.
Our twelve attending was Steve and Mary Wilson, Larry and Vib Syberg, Herb and Marianne Kopff, Don and
Jackie Audrain, Jerry and Caryl Wilson, Barb and myself. Can we count Chico? Thank you all for attending a
1000 miles away for a week, hope you had a good experience with other Oldsmobile folks.
Leo Stutzmann called me last Sunday to thank all who attend from The Archway Group. Again we had the
most from out of town attend this function. Archway Olds Club is #1.
Just a side note at the Tampa Downs Race Track tour was the first time Barb and myself got busted by Chico.
No dogs allowed correct, no problem here right. All was going ok till Chico smelled the horses warming up on
the track and the noises made by the horses, Chico barked once. The tour guide asked if there is a dog in the
crowd. I mentioned it was my phone. The tour guide asked again if there is a dog in the group, Busted! We
admitted there was a dog in the bag. The tour guide allowed us to continue if the dog made no more noises.
Well that is our first time being busted with Chico due to those darn horses.
At the last meeting we spoke of the 2016 National Meet Program Photo Display in the souvenir booklet. Please
consider entering a photo of your car in the 2016 OCA booklet for all to see your car in a OCA event booklet.
Even if you cannot attend have your car photo attend.
The 24th Annual Oldsmobile Homecoming Car Show and Swap Meet event hosted by the R.E. Olds Chapter
Saturday June 18th at Dimondale Michigan. Largest Oldsmobile Show in the World and it is. I have full
information if you are attending you can have. The club attended a couple of years ago and it is a Huge event.
The most one day car display and the most swap meet spaces you will ever see for one day event. Well worth
going folks.

Another local car event I have been trying to support is the Missouri Baptist Medial Charity Car Show Saturday
May 21st at the North Parking Lot at Missouri Baptist Medical Center 3015 North Ballas Road 63131.
Registration 8:00 to 10:00 AM. NOTE 8:00 to 10:00 AM Registration. Proceeds benefit United Way of Greater
St. Louis. Information call Carolyn Tichenor at [email protected] or 314-996-4180. I feel this may be a
good show being the first time this show is being presented by the BJC and Carolyn is the daughter of Jon
Havens a long time local Pontiac President of Arch Pontiac Club. Please consider attending this event as the
show is from 10:00 to 3:00 and plenty of time to do what you need to after this event. The early registration is a
killer for me but I will make it. Fliers are being handed out at our meetings.
The Gateway GTO Club has a Poker Run Criuse into Illinois that seems interesting. Meet at O'Fallon Illinois at
10:30 cruise to Breeze Illinois to Famous Wally's Drive-In for lunch then onto Germantown to Fort Replication a
fort in the middle of a corn field owned by a personal collector. That will be followed by cruising to Trenton for
an Elvis Presley Show at the Jail House Rock. Children not allowed in the Jail House. What do you think about
attending a poker run with the GTO club? We will see if there is any interest at the next meeting.
I'm still promoting the 2016 Quad States 36th annual Car Show and Swap Meet September 8th to 10th in
Bettendorf Iowa at the Isle of Capri Casino/Hotel. I will have more information at the next meetings and maybe
discuss to see if there is an interest.
Sunday May 1st is the 48th annual Model T Swap Meet at Gateway Motorsports Complex at Madison Illinois.
Maybe get a group together and enter together?
Thank you for your support with our car club and hope to see everyone at our next monthly meeting Tuesday
May 10th at the Sports Cafe.

Why does a retiree often say he doesn't miss work, but misses the people he worked with?
He is too polite to tell the whole truth.

Gene welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 7:17p.m.
He then asked if we had any visitors. We did Greg from Troy, IL. with a
442 Oldsmobile. Also, Dan who joined the club with a Delta 88 Olds.
Kristia who is also a member of the Buick club. We have a new member
Rick Stater with a 1963 cutlass. We seem to be getting more and more
visitors and also members and for that we are grateful.
The birthdays were acknowledged and congratulated for the month of
April. With several of those attending.
Gene asked if anyone bought any new cars and he did. 1968 Cutlass.
Gene also told us that long time members Kathy and Doc Albers have
moved to Florida. They will be missed but as always we wish them well.

soon.
There were 8 cars at The Easter Show and fun was had by all. Slightly
rainy day some didn't want to take theirs out. They thanked Gerald for
breakfast. Larry was thanked for doing the promotional road show. That
was a success. Dan and Gene handed out 450 fliers promoting the Troy,
Mo. show coming up in August thanks to them.
Well folks the Oldsmar Show has come and gone. Six couples went and
truly enjoyed themselves. Our club was bawled out and kicked out of the
pool as it had closed at 10:00 and they were still chatting away at
midnight! The Parade had to be cancelled due to rain.
Gene asked anymore old news and they all said No.

Barb is planning on talking with Wayne Nolan from the horseless Carriage
club .She plans to discuss a tour of his shop for us. Then we would go
have dinner somewhere. Hopefully take our cars out.
On May 21st we were invited to A Car Charity Show at The Baptist
Medical Center by Jon Haven's daughter from the Pontiac Club. Let's see
how many we can get to come out for this. It supports United Way. They
are looking for Judges if you don't want to do that then say so.
We voted and passed the vote to put a 1/2 page Ad in JWO for the
National car meet. Shannon seems to be a very key player in our car
club. She is now looking into getting color fliers made for our fun show,
thanks Shannon.
We need to hear from others just what fun things or cruises do you want
to do or take this year. It's April folks we need to get the cars moving.........
The fliers were passed after our vote. Rick and Gene 1st it and Ed 2nd it.
Please consider entering your car photo for the National meet.
Quads State is taking registrations for Sept. 8 and 9th. If you are
interested Gene has fliers for The 24th Homecoming for Oldsmobile for
this year. He has hotel agenda etc also. Charlie was able to get our club
more information about The Quads Sate Oldsmobile in Iowa this year.
Since this is closer this year please consider going it should be great!

Ted Hamburg wanted us to discuss a new location for our meetings once a month. So we need to consider places and
plan on telling about them in May when we meet again. Where it is? what have they got to offer us to eat and seating
etc.? Or are we interested in moving out of The Sport's cafe??? The outsiders Car Club has moved it's location. Every
Friday night 270 West Port Area. It is a good place for all to meet in the middle of town.
Gene asked about a 5th Friday Night cruise that we could do. What do you think? July and September have 5 Fridays.
Some upcoming events are : 48th annual Model T Swap Meet at Gateway Motorsports Park ,Madison, IL. Sunday May
1st.Gateway Classic Car Spring Fling Sat. May 14th 9-5 at O'Fallon Ill. location.
Anything for sale? Yes, we have one 2 Xl T-Shirt left for the club.
There will be a Shriner's car show coming up. Buick Club sponsoring it and our famous D.J., Bob and his adorable
sidekick wife, Sherry will supply the music.
Bob and Sherry will also provide the music for Melva Way 's Milstadt, IL. save the tower car show. This is Oct 22,2016.
Jerry Wilson stood up and thanked the many people who sent Shannon stories on their Veterans. The J W O will be close
to 100 pages this May showing all of this. Thanks to Shannon and Jerry and so many others who got this rolling and
pulled this off. It will be a great book to keep forever. Shannon's brother had a stroke and we ask that you will pray for him
a full recovery and a special touch to heal him and also to help the family as they help out running back and forth.
Ed and Pete shared the 50/50 tonight at 50 of it. Alice won the dinner helping her pay for her Carrot cake!
