BHS Students of the Month
CONGRATULATIONS to the November Students of the Month!!!
Freshman – JADE CONTRERAS
Jade is described as a student who shows great responsibility
and accountability for her grades. She is willing to help other
students who are stuggling academically and is available to
help all her peers. Jade is the secretary for the Freshmen class
and a tutor for the newly established peer tutor program. Not
only does Jade excel academically, she is also an excellent
athlete. All while keeping her GPA up, Jade participates in
volleyball, basketball, and softball. Her favorite subjects are
ELA and Algebra I and in her spare time, writes poetry and
listens to music.
Sophomore – MICHAEL BISHOP
Michael is a very polite young man and comes to school
every day with a great attitude. He is a quiet, hard working
student who puts forth effort on all assignments and
participates in class. In addition to his class success, Michael
is the basketball manager and a Badger baseball player.
Michael truly is a model citizen and always helps and
respects others in our school community.
Junior – LUCAS BALBOA
Lucas is an officer of the Family, Career, and Community
Leaders of America (FCCLA) and is very involved in the
Bishop High School Color Guard. Recently, he tried out and
made the team for the TAMUK Winter Guard. Lucas shows
great leadership in taking the initiative for many of the
organizations in which he belongs. He is a good example of
happiness because he is always smiling and says hello as he
goes down the hallway. Lucas is a member of DECA and also
plays tennis.

best part about the school day. Aaron is a member of the National Honor Society,
HOSA, and competes in cross country, basketball, track, and tennis. In his spare

Give a Kid a Book 5K Fun Run – NHS project by
Derrick Hinojosa
November 2015
Derrick, senior NHS member, organized a community
project to help raise money to buy a book for every
student at Bishop Primary. He coordinated a 5K Fun Run
with the help of several NHS members, Bishop Police
Department, Laura Petro, and Penny Leake. 0ver 50
runners registered for the event that started at Bishop
High School. Community leaders sponsored the run with
their charitable donation-a special thanks to Mike and
Brandi Smith, D’yan Lopez Garza, Tanya Lawhon and
Kingsville Nursing and Rehab. A total of $775 was raised
and given to the school to order books for their students.
Derrick and his friends did
an excellent job registering
late entries, timing the
runners and coordinating
the route. His next project
will help raise funds for the
Bishop Badger Baseball
team.
GREAT JOB Derrick!

Outstanding job to Aaric, Nathan, Cassidy, Carrli, Raney, David, and their sponsor,
Ms. Vassaur.
Inside the Classroom
In Mrs. Martinez’ Anatomy and Physiology Classes, the students
constructed 3D models of the layers of the skin. This was a
project that took the students a couple of days to complete but
accomplishing this helps them to
learn about the different parts of the
skin.
Students in Mrs. Trice’s classroom are using technology on a daily basis. Currently
they are working with a Computer Science Google
Program.
