Welcome to the Fashion For Action 2010 Host Committee
Fashion for Action 2010 marks Housing Works’ 20th year of providing lifesaving services to homeless and low
income men and women living with HIV/AIDS. Two decades ago, Housing Works emerged from the powerful
social movement ACT UP. We remain committed to our founding principles: relentless advocacy, the provision of
lifesaving services and the development of entrepreneurial businesses that sustain their mission.
This year, our ambitious goal is to raise $500,000. And the Fashion for Action Host Committee plays a vital
role in achieving that goal.
We are thrilled to announce that Thom Browne will be serving as Chair of this year’s event, and request that you
join us on this year’s Fashion For Action host committee.
This year’s event features an exclusive dinner on Monday, November 15, at MTV and a special VIP opening
night reception on Thursday, November 18, at the Rubin Museum of Art.
There are several ways to participate as a Host Committee member, including:

Solicit from brands, retailers and friends in-kind donations of accessories (handbags!), jewelry, and
clothing to be showcased and sold during the Fashion for Action event.
•
Purchase and sell tickets to our opening VIP Reception on November 18.
•
Join us at an exclusive pre-event dinner to be held on Monday, November 15, 2010, to mark Housing
Works’ 20th year of providing services for people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
•
Secure extra special items that can be placed in our silent auction; for example, vacation packages, highend jewelry or custom-made clothing, dinners, and spa packages.
A special Host Committee reception will be held in the coming weeks to provide you with information and
materials to help you solicit donations and answer frequently asked questions about the event. You will be
notified in advance with more details.

Concept
Housing Works Thrift Shops’ annual four-day designer sample sale, Fashion for
Action, takes place at our flagship Chelsea location and features more than $1
million dollars worth of brand new donated high-end apparel and beauty
merchandise. Chaired by the highly acclaimed menswear designer Thom
Browne, Fashion for Action 2010 kicks off with an opening night ticketed benefit
on November 18th at the Rubin Museum of Art, located across the street from
the Chelsea store. Guests enjoy cocktails, VIP banquettes, hors d’oeuvres and
silent auction opportunities—as well as exclusive preview shopping in the
Chelsea store. All merchandise is priced at a charitable 50 to 70% off retail value.
Fashion for Action is open to the public in the three days following the kick-off
benefit November 19-21.
Partnership
Housing Works Thrift Shops sell an upscale mix of donated secondhand
clothing,furniture, and housewares. In addition, we partner with fashionable
brands for donations of new merchandise. Through these partnerships, we
execute event quality clothing in support of Fashion for Action. Collaboration
with media partners and outside sponsorship facilitates pre- and post-event
deliverables ranging from merchandise sold to participating designers and
attendees to food and beverages. In addition, our marketing team partners with
partners’ public relations staff to garner press and create outside media
opportunities.

Housing Works is a healing community of people

Housing Works Advocacy
We believe that people living with HIV/AIDS must lead the fight to eradicate the
disease, a fight that includes access to healthcare and supportive services and an
end to AIDS stigma. Advocacy highlights:
