There will be three parades this year. The Best
4th Costume Parade, starting at 5:30 PM, the best
decorated Golf Cart Parade at 5:45 PM and the
Annual Boat Parade at 6:15 PM.
Are you ready for a grand old 4 th of July
Celebration? The annual WIA 4th Party will be
held at the Waterwood marina on July 3rd. Since
the 4th fell on a Sunday, the WIA Board voted to
have the 2010 celebration on Saturday so more
Waterwoodians and their guests could enjoy the
festivities.
This year's “parade theme” will be “We Love
America”. Trophies will be awarded to the 1st,
2nd and 3rd place winners of each category. Make
plans now decorate your self, your golf cart and/
or your boat and have fun. The trophy
presentations will be held as the specific parade
has finished.
Fun will start around 3:00 PM with a waterslide
and moonwalk. The tent, tables and chairs will
be available for guests at that time also.
If you are not a member of the Waterwood Boat
Club and want to join the boat parade, email

WATERWOOD OUR HOME
May the best of your past be the worst of your FUTURE.
WOW, 98 degrees out on our gazebo on
Memorial Day. What a way to end the month.
See what it looked like in January? What a
difference a few months make in Waterwood.
Are you ready for the annual Waterwood 4th of
July celebration? Well get ready to have some
fun and fine food. REMEMBER our celebration
will be held on the 3 rd not the 4 th. The 4 th
Committee of Jan Goldsmith and Donnie
Marshall have planned a great celebration. See
you all there.
Well, the idea of “the City of Waterwood” has
once again been brought to the forefront. An
“ad hoc” committee to the WIA Real Estate
committee has been appointed to study this
matter. We’ll keep you all up dated.
We have some new signs at the Waterwood
trash dump. Evidently some of those people who
use the dump can’t read. Please pick up you
trash bags if they happen to miss the dumpster
and fall on the ground.
Speaking of Memorial Day, we hope your
weekend went well. The number of boats on the
lake during this past weekend was the largest
your editor has ever seen in his 9 years around
the lake.
Thanks for your help. It will make the “Trash
Police” happy. Have a GREAT June!
THE WNN IS PUBLISHED ON A MONTHLY BASIS. THE ARTICLES
AND COMMENTS ARE WRITTEN TO INFORM AND ENTERTAIN THE
PEOPLE WHO LIVE AND/OR OWN PROPERTY IN THE
WATERWOOD COMMUNITY. IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS OR
SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE CONTACT US. THANK YOUR FOR
READING THE WNN.
Every marina was almost filled with boats and
trailers, even the Waterwood launching area
was crowed. See more photos on page 8.

WMGA NEWS
There have been reports regarding golf carts and
4-Wheelers being driven on the golf course late
night and early morning. We are currently looking
at options as to how we can control and prevent
this. WIA security has been asked to start
watching for these types of problems. If you see
or hear any traffic on the golf course and
surrounding areas after dark please notify
security at 661-2800.
The fertilizing of all the greens and fairways has
been completed. Everything continues to look
great.
The course is requiring more water more than
normal do the extreme heat and no rain for almost
three weeks. This increased watering is putting
a heavy strain on the irrigation system. A major
blow out occurred on Memorial Day near #2
green. The irrigation system continues to have
many leaks.
The 1st Annual WGMA open house was held on
Saturday May 15th. 85 people attended event. It
gave everyone the opportunity to meet others
they had not met before and discuss the many
issues currently affecting our community.
The meeting and turnout was enjoyed by
everyone and the WGMA plan to make this an
annual event.
Due to the very dry conditions, golfers using a
cart are being asked to observe the 90 degree
rule at all times to minimize cart traffic on the
fairways. Bicycles should never be ridden on
the fairways. Please help keep our course in
the best condition by using good judgement
about walking, running and enjoying the
Waterwood golf course.
See more photos of this event on page 9.

Many of you have lawn sprinkler systems on your property or you may be thinking of having a sprinkler system installed
on your property. What you may not know there are some of the specific rules regulating all the irrigation systems
installed in the state of Texas
On June the 4th of 2008 the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) adopted new rules pertaining to
landscape irrigation which became effective on January 1, 2009.
The following are some of the highlights of these rules;

An irrigation plan is required prior to installation of an irrigation system.

Beginning January 1, 2010 a licensed irrigator or irrigation technician must be on-site during the installation of
the irrigation system.

All irrigation system owners or owner’s representative must be provided a drawing showing the actual
installation of the irrigation system.

Irrigation systems may not be designed to spray water on hard surfaces such as: sidewalks, driveways, streets,
fences, etc.

Backflow devices must be approved by a laboratory that has the capabilities for testing the backflow device in
the lab and field.
For more information on irrigation systems and TCEQ rules guiding landscape irrigation systems please refer to;
http://www.tceq.state.tx.us/nav/compliance/land_irrigate.html
If you are planning on having an irrigation system installed on your property please stop by the Palmer Management
Office so we can ensure you have all the necessary information to be compliant with TCEQ rules and regulations.

Waterwood Women's League News
On May 24 th the WWL awarded this year’s
scholarship to Sarah Camden of ColdspringOakhurst High School.
For our last meeting of the year, the Waterwood
Woman’s League (WWL) was the guest of the
Texas Thyme Unit of the Herb Society of
America. The group toured the gardens with
member Jean Marsch and then gathered on her
home’s veranda for an elegant brunch featuring
a menu of recipes using fresh herbs grown by
the herb society members.
Sarah will be attending Angelina College in the
fall and will major in Nursing. Barbara Mathews
presented Sarah with a check for $1200 which
is renewable each year, with a maximum amount
of $4800, as long as she meets the academic
guidelines set by the WWL.
Recipients must maintain a 3.0 average and be
a full time student to qualify for the renewal each
year. Jane Presley, Betty Channing and Trista
Byrd were also present at the awards ceremony
held at the high school.
The WWL voted to make a contribution to Holly
Cook, daughter of Melanie and Kevin Cook, to
help with expenses for her trip to National Young
Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. We
congratulate her on being selected to represent
Coldspring-Oakhurst High School.
Following the brunch, President Jane Presley
announced that one of our past scholarship
recipients, Ashley Carter, will be graduating
from The University of Texas this spring. The
WWL wishes her well.
The next WWL meeting will be in September.
THE NEW WWL COOKBOOK
The new WWLCookbook is now on sale and
should be ready for distribution this summer. This
cookbook contains over 200 recipes from
Waterwood residents and their families.
Janas Goldsmith is the chairperson for this fund
raiser. Janas says. "So many people have sent
in tried and true recipes. I just can't read these
without wanting to try all of them.
If you have any questions give her a call at 936891-7743. The cookbook would make a great
Christmas gift. The "Book" sells for $15.00 and
the money goes to great causes.

The Waterwood VFD will hold its annual 4th of
July BBQ Fund Raiser starting at 5:30 PM near
the Tent. Please plan to come out and enjoy
some great BBQ, your Waterwood friends and
help raise money for our Fire Department.
Rumor is that the New Fire Truck will be there
for viewing.
4th Chairman, Jan Goldsmith advises that we will
have a DJ for music during the BBQ and possibly
for dancing before the fireworks begin. More fun
to be had by all who attend the Waterwood 4th
of July celebation of 2010.
The fireworks will start just after the sun sets.
This celebration should be one of the very best
we’ve seen at Waterwood.
There should be a good crowd, so you and
your family might want to get there early to set
up your viewing place.
The annual celebration is sponsored by WIA.
Traditionally, generous people from our
community have donated to our “Fireworks
Fund”.
If you choose to help underwrite this celebration,
please make your checks out to WIA and mail
them to the office at 62 Waterwood, Huntsville,
TX 77320 or drop them off at the WIA Office.
Thank you for your support.
See you all at the Marina on the 3rd.

WANT TO BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR?
GOT A BARKING DOG?
There is a solution!
In fact, several.
Waterwood is home to many dogs. There are wonderful (spoiled) dogs that get
pushed around in a carriage. Others have their own “golf cart limo” driven by their
owner. Others walk around Waterwood on their own. Some are on leases and
some are not. Those not on leases are either accompanied by their owner or NOT.
Those accompanied by their owner are not a problem. The best example of that
is a dog on Doral (which will remain nameless) that is under strict voice command
and is a model dog. A hint (his namesake wears a mask (not unlike a racoon’s
face) and steals from others).
The problem dogs are the ones that destroy the tranquility and peacefulnes of
Waterwood by barking. The most obvious violators are on the golf course, but
others have been appearing on Waterfront properties as well.
