Calendar Changes—Please Share Your Feedback
Over the past few weeks we’ve received feedback about recent changes to the
Bloor Hot Docs Cinema calendar from audience members. Thanks to everyone
who shared their thoughts with us. We would like to thank
our public supporter:
The Bloor Hot Docs Cinema
is proud to be a member of:
I wanted to reach out and let you know why we removed the showtimes from
the back page of the calendar. During the past year we’ve collected thousands
of surveys to find out more about people’s preferences. We learned that the
calendar is just one of many tools used to find showtimes. We also discovered
that a majority of our audience wants more showings of the films that interest
them and less of those that don’t. In order to do this we realized we needed
more flexibility to program films based on demand, which led to experimenting
with the format of the calendar.
We knew this change could be a bit of a shock to those that use the print
calendar listings to find their showtimes, but we hope the trade-off is
worthwhile as we make smarter and more responsive programming choices.
After a few months, we hope those who initially opposed the change will learn
to use the many tools we offer to help make people aware of our programming
and showtimes. If you have feedback you’d like to share please email me at
[email protected].
Best wishes,
Alan Black
Managing Director, Bloor Hot Docs Cinema

McCartney, Blake Shelton, The Edge, Keith Urban, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift,
Steve Martin and more
Nominee—Original Song, Academy Awards 2015
“Exhilarating…inspiring.” – San Francisco Chronicle
A music legend and former member
of The Wrecking Crew, Glen Campbell
set out on an unprecedented tour across
America in 2011. What he thought
would last five weeks turned into 151
spectacular sold-out shows over a
year and a half. What makes the tour
truly extraordinary is that Glen had
been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and
was told to hang up his guitar and
prepare for the inevitable. Instead, Glen
and his wife went public with his
diagnosis and announced that he and
his family would set out on a Goodbye
Tour. Join Glen and his family on this
amazing journey as they navigate the
wildly unpredictable nature of his
disease with love, laughter and
music. This moving documentary
features special appearances by
Bruce Springsteen, The Edge, Paul
McCartney, Blake Shelton, Sheryl
Crow, Keith Urban and many more.
Opens on Friday, April 3—see website

MARINONI
D: Tony Girardin | Canada | 2014 | 90 min | STC
A must-see for cycling enthusiasts
Giuseppe Marinoni is a revered
bicycle craftsman whose frames are
highly admired and desired. When
he’s not in his workshop, he’s likely
feeding his chickens, tending his
tomatoes or foraging for mushrooms.
It’s clear this tailor turned cyclist
is happy alone and sees no point
in someone documenting his life.
But as 75-year-old Marinoni attempts
to set a world record for distance
cycled in one hour for his age group,
he begrudgingly allows his training
to be recorded (though he continually
questions and tests the crew). Slowly,
a reluctant relationship between
filmmaker and subject develops while
Marinoni nears his record-setting
goal. Perhaps this aging perfectionist
respects director Tony Girardin’s dogged
determination, or maybe he just gets
a kick out of Girardin’s iPhone and its
ability to translate Italian phrases. One
can’t help but admire the zeal of this
charming curmudgeon, making this a
life-affirming character study of a rare
artist. Alexander Rogalski, Hot Docs
In English, French and Italian, with
English subtitles.
Co-presented by Midweek Cycling Club.

THE LAST MAN ON THE MOON
D: Mark Craig | UK | 2014 | 99 min | STC
This is the story of Apollo astronaut Eugene Cernan, one of the few men who paved the
perilous path to lunar exploration. One of only three men who travelled to the moon
twice, his second trip in 1972 was NASA’s final lunar mission, making him the last man
to ever set foot on the moon. Now, more than forty years later, he is ready to share his
epic, deeply personal, story. It is a tale of burning ambition set against the spectacular
and hazardous environment of space, and the heavy price of fame. Combining rare
archival material, compelling visual effects and unprecedented access to Cernan and the
other former astronauts, The Last Man on the Moon is a stunning look at one man’s role
in humankind’s greatest adventure.
Director Mark Craig and subject Eugene Cernan will be in attendance to introduce
the film and answer questions following all screenings.
Single tickets for The Last Man on the Moon are $15 (Bloor members: $12) and can
be purchased in advance online or in person at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema box office.

Follow the incredible story of Los Angeles' longest-running revival theatre, the New Beverly
Cinema, featuring interviews with some of the cinema's biggest fans including Kevin Smith,
Seth Green, Patton Oswald, Edgar Wright and many more. Over the years, this landmark venue
has transformed from a vaudeville theatre to a nightclub, to a movie theatre. In 1978, under
the leadership of owner Sherman Torgan, the cinema became a double-feature revival house
renowned for its innovative and daring programming. After Torgan’s sudden passing in 2007,
director Quentin Tarantino purchased the building, and Sherman’s son Michael was able to keep
his father’s legacy alive. Revival theatre fans won't want to miss this one night only screening!
