HISTORY
• It is considered that Croatians inhabited
todays area in the 7th century
• The first Croatian King was King Tomislav
• Was the part of Austria- Hungary Monarchy
• After world war II was the part of former
Yugoslavia
• Since 1991 it has become the independent
country.

CAPITAL CITY- ZAGREB
• It is the largest city in
Croatia by its population.
Historically, the city of
Zagreb has grown from two
villages in the neighbouring
hills, Gradec and Kaptol.
They formed the core of
today’s Zagreb, which is the
historical center.
• Zagreb is an administrative,
economic, cultural, and
scientific center of Croatia.
• By location and culture it is
positioned among the cities
of Central Europe.
REGION OF DALMATIA
• Dalmatia is one of the oldest regional concepts in Croatia.
• It is located on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea.
• It was first mentioned in the 8th century BC when it was
founded by the Roman Emperor Augustus where Illyrian
tribe of Delmati lived.
• The climate is Mediterranean and therefore has plenty of
olive groves from which supreme olive oil is made.
• There are 942 islands, islets and reefs in Dalmatian area.
• The Dalmatian covers about 22% of Croatian area, and has
around 860,000 inhabitants or 20% of the Croatian
population.
• Protector of Dalmatia is Saint Jerome.

OUR HOMETOWN- SPLIT
• Split is the largest Dalmatian city, the second largest city in Croatia
• Has 178 192 inhabitants, it is the second largest Croatian port and
third port on the Mediterranean
• It is the administrative center of Split-Dalmatia County
• The city center is the old Diocletian's palace from the 4th century
(under UNESCO protection since 1979.), which is unique
Worldwide.
• It is surrounded by numerous mountains and the oldest town is
situated at the foot of Marjan hill, located west of the old town.
• Split peninsula is surrounded by the islands of Brač, Hvar, Šolta
and Čiovo.
• Ferries from the port of Split often connect these beautiful islands
with the mainland.
NAMED AFTER...
• It is assumed that the area
of today's city center was a
part od old city Aspalathos
/ Spalatos. The origin of its
name is derived from
plants broom
(greek aspalathos ) that
grows everywhere around
Split.

• It is situated on the north side of
the Marjan hill.

professions that are necessary for
further development in tourism
