Dear Sarasota County Property Owner:
Enclosed is your 2012 Notice of Proposed Property Taxes (TRIM). The format has been largely unchanged since its introduction in 2010. One enhancement we made for 2012 was the addition of a
QR code® in the lower right-hand corner, giving you the ability to have your property information at
your fingertips. If you have a smartphone or a tablet with a reader installed, you can take a picture
of this code and immediately be directed to your property's detail page on our website. Here you
can view your property’s characteristics, past values, maps and even change your address if you need
to.
By bringing you a familiar format with the same color coding as last year, I hope to continue making
each taxing authority’s impact on your proposed ad valorem tax liability easier to understand. This
year’s proposed tax rates and taxes are highlighted in the blue columns. An illustration of the TRIM
notice, with explanation bubbles, is included on page 3 of this supplement.
Both your proposed ad valorem taxes (front side) and non-ad valorem fees (back side) are on the
same TRIM Notice. I encourage you to attend the public hearings if you have questions on your proposed taxes, tax rates and budgets of the taxing authorities. The dates, locations and times of the
meetings are listed on the TRIM Notice. Contact information for the non-ad valorem levying authorities, including email addresses and public hearing dates are listed on page 4 of this supplement.
As always, the Property Appraiser’s office is ready to answer any of your value or exemption questions. Please call us at 941.861.8200, email us at [email protected], write to us or visit one of our offices.
Sincerely,

3% Save Our Homes Cap for 2012. The Consumer Price

from the preceding calendar year. Homeowners would
benefit from this provision if they were granted homestead
exemption last year and continued to reside on the property
this year. However, under the Recapture Rule, it is possible
for your property’s market value to be reduced this year and
your property’s assessed value increased by 3%.

10% Cap for Non Homestead Property – Non-homestead
properties are protected with a 10% cap on the annual increase in assessed value. It does not apply to the assessed
